Hull repairs

  • I know that all it takes is a piece of wood to repair the ship but what happens when you're all out of wooden planks? I was thinking there could be "other" ways to repair the ship.

    • Metal: The use for metal, metal will be a valuable resource making it a "rare" find, you will be able to take more shots with the metal but your ship will slow down making it fair for the people who can't take as much shots as you. (Repair time will be slower)

    • Cloth: I know cloth could sound pretty useless but with cloth you would be able to stop the leaking of the hull. Cloth will be a common resource being able to buy it from the outposts or even finding it out in barrel, cloth is a "weak" material but you will be able to patch up the holes faster, will you still be leaking? yes but very very little.

  • If anything, i think it should be harder to repair. So the battles won't take 1 hour.

    • Big Leak : If you get hit on the same spot several times (5-10) the hole in your hull is so big you can't repair it properly from the inside. You need 2 Wooden Planks to fix it. One from the inside and one from the outside.
  • @el-soter With cloth, you mean something like oil/tar soaked cloth right? That would help but fall off in about 5 minutes but you can plug it quite fast.

  • @rbickersjr yes.

  • What about a pig or chicken! should work in a pinch...

  • @rgbknights I don't support animal cruelty...

  • @el-soter

I guess you would also be against shooting them out of cannons? lol

  • @rgbknights Na I'm all for that.

  • Personally i think it works fine. Having a finite amount of resources during a battle lends itself to not taking FOREVER to trade shots with someone. It adds a bit of strategy to naval combat, when you only have so many resources per battle.

  • Hull Repairs?
This might be a different topic but what about Hull Progression?

Flat bottomed -can beach without damage, better in Shallows, awful in storms.
ReinforcedHull - Stronger.....much slower but okay turning.
Clipper Hull - Fastest, but lets way more water in when holed.
Just a couple of ideas to form what I mean.

  • @burtlangoustine I feel like people would abuse the flat bottom.

  • @el-soter Keep it clean dude, LOL

  • I think that by having Hull Variations though, would vary the sailing techniques and characteristics. ...just like the difference in say, a Real-Wheeled powered sports car to a Front powered wheeled sports car.
