Hello pirates,
I just got a simple question for you. Is there any chance to get a DVD version of Sea of Thieves? I've found the Xbox but not the PC version.
If not, buying the game in the Windows Store is the only way, right?
Best regards,
tratzyy
@musicmee said in PC Retail version?:
Ahoy there @player802718059
The PC version of this game comes in digital form only so yes the Microsoft Store is your best option, but other retailers also provide the PC digital version too.
I asked myself: Could I buy the Xbox version and play it on my PC? I thought about Microsoft's "Play Anywhere" ... I just want to have some physical :) But maybe I get something wrong ...

If you purchase the game digitally on either PC (Windows Store) or Xbox (Xbox Store), you can play on either platform as part of the "Play Anywhere" program.
But what is about this post by Aaron "Greenbeard"? https://twitter.com/aarongreenberg/status/955924123816927232
"Yes if the title is Xbox Play Anywhere you can play the PC version too if you are a Game Pass member."
MS is very clear on the Game Pass site: Xbox One only, no PC! So if I am a Xbox One Game Pass Member I'll get SoT for XBO - that's clear. But is this version "Play Anywhere"? The digital ones (MS store) are, but also the digital one included in Game Pass?
That's confusing ...
@thrawns
As it is a digital version & would still be connected to your GT i can't see why it wouldn't be play anywhere!
I cannot confirm, as there are no play anywhere titles on the game pass yet, so i cannot test this out!
@logansdadtoo I agree and guess the version included in the Gamer Pass is Play Anywhere but we cannot be sure. Hope we can confirm it before release because it's interesting for PC players to have this second option beside buying it for 70 dollars/euro (Gamer Pass has a 14 day trial and then 10dollars/euro).
@thrawns I did find this quote after a fair bit of hunting -
Yes if the title is Xbox Play Anywhere you can play the PC version too if you are a Game Pass member.

@katttruewalker Yes. But still: IS Sea of Thieves Play Anywhere if it is included in Game Pass? Because - if I am right - we have two versions of the game: the digital ones (are cross-platform) and the retail ones (are not cross-platform, right?). So I guess because the version in Game Pass is digital it's also cross-platform but I still see the option MS could say it's the other, retail version they've inclueded.
@thrawns Yes to both, it's Play Anywhere and it is included in Game Pass.
With any Microsoft Play Anywhere game, this applies to the digital version and not the retail, physical copy.
Xbox Play Anywhere allows gamers to buy a single digital license for supported titles, for use on Xbox One and Windows 10.
Does Xbox Play Anywhere work with physical copies?
No, it does not. Due to issues with authenticating licenses across platforms, you'll need a digital copy attached to a Microsoft account for the feature to be available.
@katttruewalker Thanks a lot. To be honest: I forgot about the fact physical copies have nothing to do with Play Anywhere.
So ... for me the XGP is a very interesting option now. :)
