Sea of Thieves - Magic moments ...

  • Ahoy mates!
So the beta ended and i feel it's the right time to share those storys you all experienced in the past days. Things that made your day or were just unexpected/hilarious/astonishing/sad/awesome or whatever else so it sticks in your minds. Let's share the best Moments of the beta together!

And as opener of this thread here comes my Story, happening yesterday on the last full day of the beta:
Do you know the kind of stories where the Storyteller is spinning an exciting, sometimes maybe hilarious Story about own astonishing achievements? Like how they outsmarted overwhelming odds and this kind of stuff?
Now my story isn't that kind of Story! It's about the accomplishement of our "enemy" and about 2 "lousy" Pirates whose most respectable traits were persistance :-D. Here it goes:

I was lucky and met a really nice crewmate from the netherlands after logging in and spawning on our 2 man Slope. We did some Voyages together and decided on our last day in the beta to go out and do some hunting and fighting. We got into many battles and tried even difficult ones 2 vs 4 and even battled in a 2 vs 2 Vs 2 Vs 4 Battle around Crooks Hollow but at the end of the day it was the Hunt of a small Ship which was piloted by just one guy that made my day.

So we first encountered him on the open see, while we were looking for a fight. We soon noticed that he was sailing all alone but the s*****g, seaswallowing Pirates we were, we attacked anyways! He tried to sail away and the hunt was on! While sailing across a rough ocean we exchanged Gunfire and the occasionally cannonshot to each other but were not able to Close in to the Guy who sailed all alone.

He managed to stay away from us while returning Gunfire with blunderbuss and Sniper and yelling at us to stay away! The Hunt went on for about 20-30 minutes i think and we came Close to Boarding him 1 or 2 times but failed at doing so (cause 1 of us was steering the ship and the other occupied with repairing or adjusting Sails or Shooting Cannons). Then our "Prey" decided to take a risk and sailed right into a Storm.

While waves big as houses smashed into our Ship we still tried to fight him but luck seemed on his side and the stormy Sea blocked our rudder and we lost sight of him behind the rain and the stormy Sea. So we decided to bring us out of the storm and sail to our Destination of our ongoing Voyage. (at this Point we were already 4 times "on our Way" before entering another fight) But as we left the Storm, guess whose Ship we saw not too far away? So we continued the Hunt!

Again we fighted a littlebit with the Guns but i managed in a darring maneuver to shot myself out of the cannon and hit his ship while he was firing at my mate. So i boarded him finally. We exchanged some Gunfire and he proved to be the better gunslinger and send me straight to the fishes, while still managing to avoid rocks all alone on the sea. My mate managed to pursuing the Hunt and i respawned on our Ship. So in a darring attempt and realizing he cant escape us he Anchored on an Island and proving to be such an astonishing Buccaneer already, we decided to take an all or nothing shot on him.

We crashed our ship on the Island just to be able to board him finally - while he was preparing to leave the Island. There we fought what we thought to be the final battle of this hunt and while hitting him heavy he managed to kill us both in an intense closequarter fight.

Our ship sank and as we respawned we had to relocate to the nearest outpost. Me and my mate were just discussing how awesome this guy played and that we should have hired him for our own Crew and laughing at our selfs how we were not able to catch this one Guy while trying it for more than an Hour. But we agreed that it was a Blast anyway, with such intense Battles. So our Story could end here but we decided yet again to take our 5 try at finally fullfilling our Voyage. So we are leaving the outpost and i was watching at the Crow's Nest for interesting stuff and you all will know what i spotted at the horizon closing in to the outpost we were just leaving? Right! Our legendary one-man Nemesis! And yeah we could have just let him go ... but ... you know :D. So we engaged him again while laughing a lot on how unfortunate and awesome this poor guy was at the same time. We engaged again in some Long range firefight. Even this guy laughed as he encountered us AGAIN. And he finally proposed that he will give us a Chest if we leave him alone. Out of respect of his really awesome playing we took that offer. We anchored our Ships on the Sea while my mate boarded him peacefully and we all laughed and talked a little bit about the ongoing hunt. He really gave us lousy Pirates one of the Chests that he was carrying. We sailed all back to the outpost and cashed in our hard fought Treasure and he totally deserved to cash in his big 2 or 3 Chest's that were left, while we selled our consolation bribe :D. Afterwards we stood at the Beach together, drank some Grog in his honor and were praising his Accomplishment of defending himself against overwhelming Odds and 2 really persistent swashbucklers the Hunt finally ended. It was a great last evening at the Sea and all in all a Blast. I think despite of being the hunted and have to fight 1 vs 2 even he got a lot of fun out of this Encounter.

For myself it was a proof that you can have fun together even if we are playing on different sides with different Odds. And still being able to not beeing toxic about it afterwards. So balo íf we ever meet again after the Release of the Game, the Grog's on me!

Cheer's to my dutch mate who sailed with me the last night and Cheer's to the Rest of you and to the Closed Beta of Sea of Thieves. I for myself had really a Blast! Hope you enjoyed it too.

    Best Regards
    a lousy Pirate :)

  • @luzifel20 Hahah, that's an awesome story man :D And your english is perfect btw so no worries!

I only got to play for a couple of hours yesterday, but in that short amount of time i managed to have one of my best gaming experiences in a long time.

On my first voyage i came across a lonely pirate on a small island. He had anchored his ship there while looking for treasure. So i slowly approached and anchored my ship right behind his, without him realizing. And when i was about to sneak aboard the ship, i noticed him leaving a chest on the shore while going looking for the next one. So i grab it really quickly and g**o as fast as i could.

Eventually he discovered that his chest was gone without a trace and soon after that he spots me on my ship sailing into the distance with his loot. Obviously he starts firing his cannons after me but when he realizes that it's not going to work, he sets sail after me.

Since it was my first time playing, i had not realized i could angle my sails, so it didn't take too long before he was able to reach me and we end up in an intense firefight where i take a cannonball to the face which throws me into the sea. I then swim up to his ship and board him, shooting him in his back and sinking his ship.

Soon i realize that even though i defeated this young pirate and took his treasure in the process, i was left without a ship. But by some godly coincidence i see my ship in the distance turning back towards me (i must have left the rudder turned all the way). So i swim toward it and manage to arrive in perfect timing to climb up and board my ship which was just seconds away from sinking, and then finally proceed to sail away safely with my loot :D

Had so much fun with the limited time i had with the game! Can't wait for release, and hoping they will be adding a ton more awesome stuff to experience :)

  • @vespertapestry5 Hey Mate! Great Story, thx for sharing. Lady Luck was really on your side on this one! This is what i would call the legendary luck of thieves!

  • I wouldn't call it a magic moment, but me and my friend saw a Sloop under attack by a Galleon. We sailed in to the rescue!

...only for the Sloop to run away very fast, leaving us to face the Galleon.

Sloop Bros! Where was the love?

  • I had a couple of moments, from epic fails to... epic fails! ahaha

-One time, there I was playing solo, on the first days of the beta, when I suddenly spot a ship anchored on a island, I come close and suddenly 2 guys start to open fire from the shore, and i answer back, with cannon fire... against their ship, which at the time no one was on board. Their ship ends up sinking, one of them starts to swim towards my ship, climbs, gets shot, and falls on the water. I drop my sails and scream "NO ONE TAKES MY SHIP" on local chat. My ship starts to move, and then BANG my ship comes to a halt, as I look forwards in terror as i realize I had run aground on the same island around 100 meters from where I sank the enemy ship. I jump out with a major poker face, my ship slides back onto the ocean and sinks like a rock. The 2 brave men on the shore that had their ship sunk came towards the small piece of land I was in with guns in hand... After an altercation of bullets and swords I ended up killing both of them!

-One of the other moments, this one was caught on live. My mates and I, were in a galleon and we went on a "pirate rampage" we started following a sloop around the map, even ended up pushing him out of bounds. As we were about to board him since we didn't had more cannon balls, another sloop shows up! Then, I shoot myself out of the galleon, to try to take the 1st sloop, and end up overshooting her, the second one come right on my direction, I climb aboard, I shoot the captain out of the ship, proceed to take control of her, while this happens my mates in the galleon, rammed the 1st sloop, one gets on board and starts to fight the captain and kills him. Then I rammed the 1st sloop with the second sloop, and jump on board (just to find out that sloop was heavily damaged and her captain was dead) BUT I forgot to drop the anchor of the second sloop before jumping, so she keeps moving towards our galleon with no one on board, good thing was, her rudder was all the way to the left so it missed our galleon. As she keeps turning, I climb back in, and drop the anchor, but it was too late, she didn't missed our galleon that time... While I was dropping the anchor, her captain spawns back in and we get into a fight, my captain (the galleon's captain) also jumps into the sloop and ends up killing the enemy captain.
We jumped back on the water to return to our ship, since the sloop was about to sink, AND THEN we look at our galleon in despair as we also see it sinking with all the damage it took with both rams (yes everyone in our crew forgot about them holes!)... The galleon sinks with all the chests on board, we try to make a run for the damage sloop but it also sinks. We were left on open sea with no ship, and no chests... But with sharks! :D It was very fun, we had a laugh at that moment...

(If anyone wants, I might post the link (if i find it) to the stream where the second moment happened, even though you wont understand what we were saying).

  • @redsparrows said in Sea of Thieves - Magic moments ...:

Sloop Bros! Where was the love?

This had me laughing out loud, reminding me of two different occasions.

The first, like you, I saw a sloop being pursued by another sloop and sped over to see what was going on. The pursued sloop left, and the aggressor sloop spent a while harassing me until I led him back to the other sloop and went my own way while they duked it out.

The second time, I saw a sloop being chased by a galleon. So I went over that way and engaged the Galleon and managed to sink it. I also sank the sloop as it started attacking me. Going about my own way, I saw that the sloop was heading towards the galleon again while the galleon was clearly finished with the fighting sailing to an island and anchoring there. It was then that I realized one of my friends might have been right, the sloop was the aggressor. So, this time I helped the Galleon (which sank anyway) and then took command of the other sloop and set it towards a fort. I was disappointed in my sloop bro for harassing the the galleon when it wasn't interested in a fight.

  • Two days ago i was on a sloop with my gf. It was the end of our session and even if we crossed the way of a galleon five minutes ago, we were just joning around and not paying attention to anything.

Anchored near an island, i took like two minutes to find the treasure and was happily coming back to the ship when... OH MY GOD GALLEON.

My girlfriend just had the time to turn back to see it impaling our ship perpendicularly, right in the middle... Just to discover that 3 of four men of this crew were with her in the ferry.

Then i remembered i spend the while trip storing like 6 gunpowder barrels in the middle of our ship's hold, which killes the 3 guys (and my girl, RIP little angel :'( ) and sunk the galleon :)

  • Such great Storys! Thx for sharing it. And @AereFR if i had found my GF with 3 other Pirates in the ferry ... i would have totally blown up the Ship too hrhr :)

  • @luzifel20 you don't get it : the galleon's charge itself blew the barrels up, killing everyone and sinking the galleon

  • @aerefr Ahh okay, but still my Statement stays the same hrhr :D

  • Come on Guys! There have to be more Storys out there! Dont let them sink into the Ocean of Oblivion like our beta ships are right now! Share your amazing Moments of this beta with everyone else :)

  • I'll share one with ya.

I was sailing around solo when I encountered a galleon. I sailed up close to it when the opened fire. I returned fire, sunk there ship, and noticed only one caught the mermaid. They had a few chests, sniped me, and ended up stealing my Marauders chest. I spawned back on my boat and notice another galleon on the other side of the island and the one I originally fought sailing back to pick up the crew and chests. I engaged both galleons, chased one away but the other ended up picking up its crew and chest, sinking me and stealing my last couple of chests.

They did not kill me though, so I snuck on board and started sitting on the balcony on the back of the ship, waiting for them to set sail. Once they did that and started heading into a storm I got to work. I snuck into the captains quarters where they had quite a few chests and started grabbing them and dropping them off the back of the boat. I think I ended up getting 5 out of the 7 chests they had before I fell off.

I ended up taking a mermaid back to my new boat where I set off to intercept them. I heard them say where they were going and I knew roughly were they where when I fell off but for some reason I could not find them. After about 5-10 minutes I finally see them sailing out of the storm so I head towards them and let them sink my boat while I boarded again. I don't know how they didn't see me but I ended up sneaking back into the captains quarters where I found zero chests.

Looking back at the video I am pretty sure this is the same ship. The sails at least matched but I don't know if the sunk in the storm or what exactly happened but it was a fun time.

  • @lifewcoke Great Story, must have been very satisfactory to get the upperhand vs such unwelcoming Odds :). And one example more for: more Crewmates /= auto win :D. Thx for sharring.

  • @luzifel20 It would have been better if I had gotten em all. But, I learned from my mistake and the I will be better prepared the next time I get this opportunity.
