I made a thread a long time ago about several things. I can’t find it now. One thing I talked about was factions. I had several that you can now see coming. They each come with different titles and gamer tag colors. Ill give a brief rundown.
Traders- trade voyages, green gamertag. It looks like Rare has this one covered. They can employ bounty hunters for protection.
PvE- pve faction with pve voyages, blue gamer tag. I thought this would be kind of like a monster hunting, boss fighting faction.
Treasure (gold hoarders) - gold gamer tags. This would have more puzzles. More like a Zelda type play style. B***y traps, maps, riddles, the works included.
PvP faction- Red gamer tags. This faction provides PvP type quest and titles. These players always have a bounty. That bounty is higher based on the more things they have done for this faction.
Bounty faction/Navy mercs- white gamer tags. Playing this faction gives you bounty quest for those with red gamer tags. Also, traders can hire these players for protection. This faction and it’s players will substitute as “police”. They can activate bounty quest.
When you choose a title with a faction, your gamer tag changes to that color. If you choose the PvP faction you’re, locked into that faction for 24 hours minimum. As you gain reputation with these factions, you unlock more titles, ship customization and items that are specific to those factions. All the way up towards epic skins for completing certain task in those factions.
Now, here is how PvP would work. If you sail for the PvP faction and you have a red gamertag, you can attack and kill anyone. If you have one of the other gamertag colors, you can only kill players with red gamer tags. Keep in mind, only traders can employ the bounty faction to help them. All ships damage is reflected by its captains (or crews) role. For example, a ship helmed by bounty players can not be sunk by traders, gold hoarders, or PvE faction members.
With ship sail customizations being faction exclusive, you’ll have a better idea of other pirates intentions. If you are locked into the PvP faction for a minimum of 24 hours, that rules out a lot of deceit.
The PvP faction would be for the hardcore PvPers. Those of us looking for a fight. This faction can kill anyone, but also be killed by anyone. There’s nothing stopping a couple trade vessels from getting together and attacking you if you’ve angered the lobby.
I think PvP this way would help everyone. Those that wish to avoid the dreaded PvPers can band together, while PvPers could have more meaningful engagements. Also, the bounty hunter faction is needed. They are the spearhead against the cutthroat pirates.
