party chat better than game chat ?

  • I have been on a few sessions now were we had to change to party chat just to hear each other which is disappointing as we would like to hear other crews when in battle or to parley has any one else had issues with audio in game chat ?

  • @gta5dude74 This flips for me sooooo often... sometimes party chat works flawlessly when game chant doesn't and then other times it is completely the opposite!

    I cannot suss it out!

  • Our crew using party chat for a number of reasons:

    1. We normally form a crew before matching making and there is no voice chat in the lobby!
    2. With party chat overlay you can see who is talking. This is really helpful, even more so with new players.
    3. Game chat cuts out at the worst times.
    4. Game chat has a (wonderful) bug that lets you hear other crews in the world. (A bit unfair if you have the down low on where players are going)
  • @gta5dude74 @lizalaroo and I always use gamechat. For me it's just more immersive, you can communicate with other crews passing by socially or in battle, it just adds to the feeling of being more 'in' the world.

  • I think if game chat would play audio through standard Xbox headsets it wouldn’t be so bad. It hard to hear other players if your like me and don’t have the tv volume up to loud. Our group of friends usually hop into a party chat no matter what game but probably wouldn’t on SoT if the game chat worked better.

  • @gta5dude74
I always try & use gamechat, although it's not always great as you well know from when you joined me & @Tartansnake-8 & neither of us could hear each other :)
Quite often get issues where 1 player can't hear another but for the rest it's fine.

  • Anytime ive come across not being able to hear another player whilst the rest of my crew can, having us both pull out the mic jack and reinsert the mic has nearly always if not always fixed it.

I tend to have a party active up until we're in a game and then switch to game chat. if for whatever reason it completely dies we can fall back to a party quickly but ive not had to do that in months, the trick above has solved any issues ive had.

  • My preference would be game chat but needs some improvement I switch the party from party chat to game chat if we meet another crew if hostile switch back for tatical advantage

    Please rare fix game chat

  • On pc you can be in party chat and still hear and be heard in game chat. I personally prefer just game chat though, fun hearing people yell don't shoot as you continue to sink their boat and sail off with their loot.

  • Has to be game chat for me. Much more fun engaging with other crews.

  • Game chat makes for a better experience, especially with a random crew and people without mics. Not only that, but it allows you to interact with other crews.

  • @wowmom2012 just change chat audio to headset instead of TV in St settings, then game chat comes through headset just fine

  • The problem I have with Party Chat is the fact that the xbox app on PC is complete trash. People send me invites to party chat which I never receive about 90% of the time. Notifications are on, I receive the invites sometimes, but it's rare. Same thing goes with game invites except I've only ever received 1 invite when I know people have sent me invites as I was chatting with them just fine through discord.

Most of the time what I have to do is go to someone's profile in the xbox app and click "join party chat" or "join game." But even then, a majority of the time their profile page just shows they're playing SoT but doesn't give me the option to join chat or game. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong on my end, I never bothered with the xbox app on my PC until SoT Alpha. If any PC users know a work around or fix let me know. Oh, the other side of the token, if I'm the one that sends invites to either chat or game people receive them just fine...

At any rate, because of the fact I just never receive party chat invites I definitely prefer in game chat because it's way less hassle!

  • @spr1nk thanks. don't know why i never thought of that. probably since we always party up i never needed to mess with it.

  • @hyr0-the-pyr0

I second that, Xbox app on pc is complete rubbish: it doesn't work like it should and gives you a disadvantage when trying to party or doing anything really, because you always have to alt+tab or close down the game.

Everything turned on but still no notifications/messages/warnings/sounds nothing. Just like you I never bothered with the xbox app on pc, just because it's useless like that. When Microsoft would implement some features to work exactly like xbox 1 does (or any other overlay program? Overwolf/Steam/Origin/Epic Game Launcher/Uplay).. Seems like microsoft still has a lot to learn about this kind of connectivity for it's players..

  • @vitix88 One great thing that Rare has done is implement adding people to your friend list from within the game. That was definitely a welcomed QoL improvement. However, even just a simple overlay would be nice. And for invites to actually work. Pretty much the only point of the app is to create a friend list of people to play with. If invitations don't work, it's utterly pointless.

M$ really needs to address this. Especially given Sea of Thieves is their next big game, it's highly social, and the cross platform play is one of the big selling points. In researching a fix for this problem it looks like this has been an issue essentially since they launched the app and cross platform games a couple years ago. Shame Rare is owned by M$ so their hands are tied and they can't really do anything to address this themselves.

  • @wolff34 u never disappoint love it 😊

  • @hyr0-the-pyr0 Yes I've noticed that Rare also implemented the Make Friends emote which actually allows you to add players in front of you to your friendlist! GREAT!

But the thing about what you said is true, for instance I think MS shoots itself in the foot because of this lack of overlay on PC. It makes it a lot harder to get playing with friends and thats the main focal point in a "high social game" like this. It (the xbox app on PC working WITHOUT any kind of overlay) lacks consistency, which doesn't benefit PC users in general when it comes to playing with friends.
I really am addicted to this game so I'll still buy it whatever happens, but still the lack of "getting together easily" will make some potential users reconsider buying it.

@Deckhands I think this can be a big turn-on for PC users when implemented, on the otherhand I think it can be a big turn-off if they won't add such a feature. I know Rare tries hard to get things going, but I hope both Rare and MS can work this thing out together :)

I'm also referring to posts earlier made in this thread by PC users. It may be a bit in between topics, but what's the deal about discussing party/game chat if you have no-one to connect to in the first place (except random matchmaking).

  • Being on PC and using party chat is awesome. Not sure if it's a bug but I hope it never changes since it gives the best of both worlds.

If you are in party chat on PC you can still talk and hear people talk in game. This let's me talk to my friends normally/privately if I want to and gives me the option to talk in game to random crewmates and other crews.
