@yellowspider88 Ok, good point.
Ability to turn off crossplay - keep it fair.
haha nice one, i assume once you get better and learn to aim more people will msg you calling you hackers or pc s**m, we have gotten a few of those from i assume console players, thats what directed me to the forum insearch for this post
@yellowspider88 Not really. Other cross-play games like Gears of war have no problem with scores etc. There are different servers for holding the account info and different for actually playing. If other games can do it I see why SOT can't. As for l2p issue, it's not really that. There is no chance on earth a player using a controller, can get as good as a player using a mouse (unless that pc player is utterly awful). You can't deny there is an advantage when using a mouse. Anyway I see why we can't have an option? It's just an option. I'm sure there will be more than enough players in SoT, especially with the game pass announcement.
@captain-surgee
you have to take into account that luck exists, if someone gets a lucky wave and the cannon hits the deckhand off the ship thats a game changer, its all ifs and buts.
that being said pc has and will always have better aiming/accuracy as it takes 1 hand for 1 and 1 for the other, the console player has to use both hands at the same time for all actions
nothing can change that and limiting the games player-base will only hurt the games progression
@yellowspider88 Servers are only for 16 players max, so I don't think the population will be hurt at all, especially with SoT being available with the game pass. Let's also not forget there is no zone restriction. US players are on same servers as EU players. Besides, by default, crossplay can be turned on.
This argument only seems to come up when OP and a few others who +1 it end up losing to a better set of skilled players, who they suspect might've been PC players. Unless you walked up and asked them after being killed, "ARE YOU PC, BRO?!" then how could you know for sure if that is indeed the issue here? I play PC, I get ganked, probably by controller wielders, and PC players, but I do my fair share of ganking too. I'd say it's pretty balanced and fair, since I can't quickscope. All I can do is 180 and pop off shots if I'm being chased on an island in a more fluid motion.
@yellowspider88 Yes, I know. What I'm saying is that it's extremely easy to find matches as the player count per server is pretty small and there are no zone restrictions. Even with the first stages of alpha (again, a year ago...) when there have been only few hundred testers I had no issues getting into the game and meeting other crews. I don't think having an option to turn off crossplay will impact matchmaking times.
@Hotel-Actual
Nope, not really. Cross play was introduced much later. Again to remind you, alpha launched in December 2016. I was one of the first ones to test it and I can assure you there was no cross play then. I've linked articles already.My opinion since being involved before and after cross play leave it! I dont care if you have a pc or Xbox it's down to luck of the draw. You could have two pc players zooming in on you from the back or side of a ship and all it takes is a well aimed cannonball and your reduced to green mist. Or your launched off the deck. Yeah you might die from being sniped at the same time you shoot the cannon. But at least you took someone with you or put their ship at a disadvantage to win the battle.
@iceman-0007 I never said to remove it. An option would be nice. If you enjoy playing against PC players, that's ok, just leave the option on. You're still talking about luck here. I'm ready to challenge any console player 1v1 in pistol, blunderbuss and sniper fight, while I'll be on my PC. You'd need a LOT of luck to win. I'm not talking here about tackling a ship or shooting cannons, that's all fine and dandy.
@pokepaws said in Ability to turn off crossplay - keep it fair.:
it does seem like the team have changed a few things up to make it a bit more fair, like scoped sensitivity and such (the average person wont know how or might not own a mouse with changeable DPI and that)
I don't know why this idea persists, because it is wrong. Rare has not done anything to balance out console and PC aim. The aim in general is bugged. If they had balanced it, there would be a turn rate limit when trying to use the scope that would affect everyone and no one would be able to move faster than a set speed. There isn't - you can turn just fine when you increase the in game sensitivity slider or use dpi settings on a mouse.
The bug is that when you zoom in on anything, the ratio of movement doesn't change. So when moving your mouse left 10px in normal zoom, you might turn your character 15 degrees left. When you zoom in and move your mouse left 10 px, the movement doesn't scale at the zoom ratio, so you still move 10px which translates to less than 1 degree movement in the zoomed view. Most games with scoped or zoomed ADS have a ratio multiplier so that zooming in and moving around is not as terrible as it is in SOT.
As this thread has debased into pointless back and forth arguing, I'm locking it.
Also, for posterity, telling players to "get good" and that this is a "pirate game, deal with it" isn't constructive nor helpful when trying to identify ways to enhance or improve the game. There are multiple player types and this is a shared world game, not a strictly PvP game.
I've got to say I agree, after having spent two hours playing against very clear PC players, 4 v 2. The 4 of us were competent, but their superior load times, vastly superior camera control via mouse, and clearly a better connection (although this may change in the future.. at least the last note) gave them way too many advantages for us to handle.
Shots that landed on our screen didn't on theirs, and shots that didn't land on our screens, did on theirs. And that is not okay, period. We all know the PC hardware and controls are superior, vastly superior, and balancing it just isn't physically possible without activating blatant hindrances to PC players, which they'd simply up and complain about. And I can't say, it's not even an option I'd have on every single time I play. But when I'm going for a fort, I don't want people who can rotate on a dime running around my ship with shotguns. Swords can't compete with shotguns with near perfect aim..
And about that - didn't someone say aim assist is on the PC too? What the hell's up with that, that's unacceptable.
