Sword boosting going to stay?

  • So I hope devs are aware of players sword boosting around...
    So If you stand on some ledge near of water and charge your sword by holding right mouse button... You will get forward boost that will make character to go very fast trough water on long distance... !?!?! is this a feature on game or just a bug that is caused by that forward momentum on sword boost..?

    It is heavily used by advanced players ingame...

    Is that going to stay ingame or is it going to be fixed? it is ruining the immersion :/

  • I would code it something like:
    if player is not in boat or shot by cannon and velocity in X or Z world axel is greater than maximum running speed / then reduce player velocity...
    So it would slow down the player fast... that would also help on those rare cases where player drops from boat and got pushed by boat that sends player to skip trough water a long distance :P (like sword boosting it may even be that this would help with that too...)

    The devs have stated that it's going to stay 'for now'
    Some of them have even used it in the developer gameplay videos.
    It may make it into the final release, it may get modified, it may get taken out (i hope not though!!)
    It's good fun doing it off some tall cliffs, crows nest etc, & is a great time saving feature when going to & coming from shore to ship ;)

  • @logansdadtoo atleast its needs to be fixed if its going to stay...
    Sometime it just locks player in some weird positions... (maybe player controller is disabled during this or something) but yeah I have got my player stuck on many weird spots because of this "bug" feature :D
    You know this sword boost is the reason of 90% of enemies boarding on ship while moving.. :P It should only be done by shooting player with cannon to other ship... Not by sword boosting from front of your ship to reach enemy ship that is going in front of you with full sails :P

  • I mean, whats unrealistic about someone jumping off a ship and diving in the water? Essentially thats all it really is. I think its a fun way to board ships and is not a game breaking feature. If you see someone dive off their ship to board, get your blunder bus and point it down the ladder. Problem solved?

  • I would prefer if this stayed. Imagine a swimmer (say in the Olympics) taking a dive in to the pool. They dive with increased velocity by using the floor or wall (depending on the swim). Pirates should be expected to be professional swimmers (they can certainly hold their breath long enough!) so an initial thrust should not be unexpected. Also with players boarding your ship like that, I'd say it's only your own fault for falling pray to that and not being self-aware enough to see it coming and defending the ladder.
    The feature is just a quality-of-life improvement, making it easier to traverse water, especially in short distances that would otherwise be unnecessarily slow otherwise (going from ship to shore).

  • I really hope the sword dash stays movement skills are always fun. It's not hard to pick up either. If a new player sees another person do it they can work it our fairly easy themselves or ask a crew mate how it's done. If it has to be moved I like the idea of attaching it to a golden cutlass or similar melee weapon. That solution gives advantage to veteran player moreso than I think Rare would like so keeping it as a base is ideal.
