Huge Problem in Game Today. Bug, Glitch, Hack, Server Problem?

  • Fought many ships already, and never lost a battle, but today was the first one, and it wasn't due to a fair fight. (Roughly 20 and 1 for sinking ships, this being our first one ever)
The enemy had poor accuracy, and missed many shots, we had great accuracy, and hit pretty much every shot. They somehow managed to continue to keep up with the repairs, but the messed up part was after. They launched one of their mates aboard our ship, and we couldn't kill them. My friend (The Captain) put one shotgun, one pistol, and a sword swing into the guy, then died by them. They then went and pulled our anchor (Which I think is an extremely dirty play for a possible fair fun fight), after that I went into combat with that same person and hit them with one shotgun, one pistol, one sniper, then three swings of a sword, and they finally died.
If they had died when they should have, we would have won the war.
Never once did they hold a banana and heal. They always held a sword.
I have been one shotting people with the Blunderbuss all game until this player.

Honestly, the thing that made me most salty about losing, is they only did it for the PvP. We had around 12 chests on board, and they took none. They just sank us to kill us and left.
Noticed these same people sink every small boat they saw too. I never saw them dock once, but they seemed to have unlimited cannon balls, which also leads me to wondering if there was a hack involved.

  • @samyelson I have no idea about the hand to hand combat part other than I have yet to get a 1-shot kill with a blunderbuss at close range so it's definitely not a guaranteed 1 shot kill. But in regards to the seemingly infinite cannonballs I know that a galleon can hold 300 total (100 in each of the 3 barrels) + 10 on each crew member for 340. Also I know when I board ships I tend to do it with no boards or cannonballs if possible and steal a bunch while on board. That's really the only plausible way to have that many. If they're a galleon holes in the middle don't need patched during battle as 90% of the time water isn't going to come into them.

Them constantly taking from other ships would make sense why they never docked. I would still like the weapon registration figure out though. :/
Pretty intense fight overall though. We had fun, and we managed to save 4 treasures, and killed them later and stole a Captains Chest.

  • @samyelson yeah sounds like a good time! and at least you got paid in the end haha

  • @samyelson I cannot for certain tell you there was no Bug/Glitch/Hack going on in your specific example.

What I am curious about is whether there is a 'damage range' for weapons, and if there is 'damage drop-off' in the game.
    (This is pure speculation)

    • Damage Range: Swords do between 20-45 damage. Guns do between 30-80 damage.
    • Damage drop-off: As distance to target increases, chance to deal damage decreases.

We have been trying to test out combat and gun fights (damage output per hit/strike/weapon), and we are almost to the point where we think each weapon has a 'damage range'. Sometimes it seems that '1-shots' occur often. Other times we hit someone with a couple bullets and 3 sword swings and they still don't go down.

I would not be surprised if 'damage drop-off' was present in the game. The further away you are from your target, the less damage you could potentially do. If it is, and it combines with 'damage range', there could be a number of perfect storm opportunities, both for 1-shots, and for enemies with nigh-unlimited health.

I'd be interested in hearing if any others have done extensive testing and have additional thoughts.

Yeah, I haven't done any testing of that. Would be interesting to know about.
However, all shots were fired 2 metres or less in my circumstance. We were running around in a circle up and down the stairs of the captains quarters.
One thing to possibly consider was all my shots were hip fire. I didn't scope once.

  • Poor hit registration with high pings. Every time I hear someone speaking Russian or Chinese or with an Aussie accent I groan, because I know they'll take at least double damage to kill.

  • @quixoticfolly That was another thing we were thinking as a possibility.

Even if you are shown a hit indicator, it may not actually register in-game due to ping and/or latency issues from the server to all the players.

@samyelson Hip fire vs. scope might make a difference with the blunderbuss? You can see the spread is more when you hip fire, compared to scoped if you shoot your hull, or a rock or something. Not sure how that translates to another player, especially in close quarters combat.
