Tales of Yer Adventures on the High Seas - a place for authors, poets and storytellers!

  • A while ago, we used to have a section on the forums where recounts of our adventures could be posted, I'd like to bring that back.

The guidelines - No opinion or feedback Just pure storytelling.

We know that there are many great authors among the Community, some who get huge enjoyment from putting down their adventures in words rather than other media, so this is a place where ye can share yer tales.

Here's one of mine, from waaaay back as a poor example -

He holds him with his skinny hand,
'There was a ship,' quoth he.
Lots of poetic license in here and a huge thank you to @Mi6-x-NeRo @KarnageWithaK and @xDILLIGAFx1974!
Well, there was indeed a ship, moored off the beach on a small island. The sun blazed down, the azure sea glistened and the voices of my crewmates rang in my ears. We boarded the ship, noticing that we had a new crewmember unfamiliar with a craft such as ours and he was soon inducted into the why's wherefore's and how's of each mechanism aboard. He liked the accordian.
We soon had the sails hoisted, the anchor raised and were setting sail for our first destination! With our expert treasure hunter @Mi6-x-NeRo, seasoned steersman @xDILLIGAFx1974 and unparalleled navigator @KarnageWithaK the object of our voyage soon hove into view and we hauled our first chest aboard! This was soon followed by several more and we decided to head to the Outpost and cash in our riches.
Now..my memory be hazy, but it might have been after this brief sojourn upon the island and a few hours in the tavern, we did spy upon the horizon another ship! We closed in as fast as the wind would allow us and prepared to do battle! This was to be a double pronged attack - cannonfire and a boarding attempt - as the impact of cannonfire rang around us, two of our intrepid crew leapt overboard and swam towards the enemy ship. They scaled the ladder and boarded her, proceeding to rain pistol and blunderbuss fire like hail! Mayhem ensued! Blood flowed and pirates died valiantly protecting their ship.
Need less to say, the enemy ship did not fare well. Sadly they had no booty aboard the ship. We raised the anchor and carried on our merry way, celebrating our first victory with grog, music and dancing! (well, jumping around the deck at least).
Heading off to another island destination, we were truly fortunate to dig up a legendary chest...it glowed enticingly in the sunlight. Knowing how crafty the enemy was, we sought a secure hiding place aboard ship, to store our recent booty and happened upon an interesting solution! We experimented, tested and finally were content with our new found hiding place. The gold was safe.
We gathered a few more chests, turned them in to the shipwright, counted our gold. Time was spent training the new recruit, commenting on the awesomeness of the celestial display above us and honing our sailing skills by Threading the Eye of the Needle!
Then we spied not one...but two enemy ships! We rubbed our hands with glee and anticipation - which one to send to Davy Jones first? A furious battle ensued, cannon balls whizzing over the deck, urgent repairs being carried out below deck as the waters flowed in, the cries of the Captain urging us on, the sounds of impacts and wood splintering! The first ship fell and sank slowly to the bottom of the ocean. The second was now in our sights. We set up a pursuit, trimming the sails and giving chase like the proverbial albatross.
They were some way ahead of us, the sea was rising, waves crashing over the bow, the ship tossing in the troughs. Night had fallen and the sky was an ominous leaden colour, heralding a storm...and yet...the water.....As we sailed on at full pelt, the ocean was acquiring an otherworldy crimson sheen. We discussed among ourselves what this could mean - was it the Kraken's Lair? Was it the souls of the dead? Was it.....the End of the World?
Our enemy still flew in front of us, we were gaining slowly...slowly....yard by yard we drew closer.....until...Yes! They were within striking distance! Another crew sent to the Ferry. We deemed ourselves invincible.
Pride doth come before a fall they say. 'Tis true. Our next encounter saw us undermanned and unable to respond to our full potential...our ship, our good, sturdy ship, sank to the bottom of the ocean.
We carried on our merry way aboard a new ship! Brand, spanking new with glowing brasswork and gleaming paint and the whitest sails you ever did see! More cautious now we approached a ship moored at a treasure island, to find one lone pirate seeking his treasure. Needless to say we dispatched him with haste, stole his chest and found ours too! The gods of the ocean were smiling on us that voyage.
Weary and salt encrusted, yet content and astonished at how the hours had flown by, we moored at a mysterious island for some relaxing exploration and sight seeing. Hmm, wall paintings of a many legged monster? Skeletons pinioned to trees? Empty barrels? Someone had obviously been here before us, but who - we were unable to ascertain. A campfire and tent marked their sleeping place and a boat upon the shore ....but no sign of the recent residents could we find. 'Twas a mystery that would have to wait for another day.

So, lets read yer limericks, odes, logs, diaries, stories, tales, poems, songs and retellings......

  • My ship i filled, with some plunder.
And Barrels to blow a ship asunder.
There was a chest i wanted to deliver. I Had be quick, i started to shiver.
I saw a sloop aproching still, as i was running down the hill.
MY ship is anchored and I'm not near!
The other sloop, starts to steer, towards my ship now i'm in fear!
I heard the cannons started to roar, and BOOM there goes my ship and Score.
I learned that barrels filled with Powder, Is sometimes not good to store with plunder...

Tried a little poem, did my best :D

  • @chillvikz Brilliant and just exactly what this thread is for - a lesson well learned indeed!

    Thanks for sharing! :D

  • @katttruewalker hahah thanks!
Some lessons is only learned by doing hehe :D

  • @katttruewalker My story began when with a big boom. After 3 days of searching me and my friend finally found enough gunpowder to cause an explosion that reached the ferry of the damned. We had about 15-20 barrels on the ship all hidden away in a safe spot so none others could find it. We docked at an outpost to turn in 10 treasures that we found along the way. After we turned it in my friend had to go for a few minutes so he hid in one of the shops while I stood guard of the ship. Thats when I saw the Galleon dock of the other side of the outpost. Since my partner wasn't with me I decided to go in acting friendly. They saw me on the shore and sent one person to go to talk to me who had a barrel of gunpowder with him so I couldnt shoot him along with 3 snipers trained on my head at all times. I talked with him a bit and agreed to let him escort me back to my ship so they knew I wouldnt steal their booty. Once we were on the ship and the treasure was turned in we saw another huge galleon approaching and I asked them if they wanted to team up which the agreed to. We deceived a plan to take out the ship without firing a single cannon. My small ship with all the explosives were to hide behind the large ship and ram them head on. With this the enemies volleys of cannons hit the big ship showing the top deck with holes. At the last second I turned my small ship to go around the big ship and the everyone jumped out of the boats into the water with our boats continuing their path straight for the enemies. We all swam as fast as we could away from the ship to avoid the GIANT explosion the absolutely decimated all 3 ships in less then a second. It was safe to say not one of the enemies made it out alive

  • Two short stories from the beta..

Me and @perfect-code were slooping it and had found some chests and barrels along our travels, when we spy a galleon parked at a somewhat distant island, we quickly hit the outpost and turn in our chests, and make a beeline for them. Now they seemed to see us just a bit late, as only 2 were on the ship and a 3rd was swimming to their ship from the island as i swam up after jumping off, explosive barrel on my back, one enemy saw me and i somehow managed to swim under the ship a few times and get up the ladder untouched, but not unseen. I sprinted to the bottom deck, dropping the barrel on the right side of the brig as i ran down, went to the far end and waited with my flintlock until i saw an enemy run down, then BOOM! He died i had about 1/3 health left but i ran back up to mid deck to find 2 pirates one with a plank one with a flintlock, i killed them both with my sword in one or two hits each because they had taken explosive damage aswell, and then ran to the captains cabin, found another explosive barrel that somehow survived, ran that to the stairs and then back to the cabin and shot it, picked up the rare chest that was also in the cabin and then hopped overboard to be swooped up by code as he finished his loop of the island, just as the galleon slipped underwater.

Last night with my brother @Matt100024 we were also sloopin it up. We had found a captains and 5 mauraders chests (and like 6 barrels which had gotten struck by lightning right after i said "i bet these barrels get struck by lightning", thanks rare, predictable lightning? or are you pulling some strings! Lol) in any case we were disapointed at the loss of like 120+ cannonballs but we retrieved the chests on respawn and hid them ashore, he guarded them while i got the new sloop. Now right after we load back up and luckily find another 2 barrels, i see a galleon making a beeline straight for us, i man the helm and we spend about 20 minutes without either having any shots save for them taking a few wild shots from a bad angle, i used the wind and the edge of the world to trick them twice, and we tried to drop barrel traps but they either saw them or i predicted placement poorly. on the third time into the edge i kept the wheel cut left where i was just behind their cannon angle from their port, but our sloop had a perfect angle. I hopped off helm with the it held left and hit them with 3 hitmarker shots and atleast 8 ship holes 5 below water, out of a barrage of 20 cannonballs. Now its safe to say this gave us quite the headstart to plunder outpost. We arrived with time for matt to turn in the captains chest and one maurauder before they were back and he ran back to the ship, and they just ran their ship into the dock and tried to control the turn in, so we left for another outpost, they tried to give chase with only 2 and the others probably about to take a mermaid, when my final barrage of shots save for a last 10 cannonballs in the barrel were used and finally sank them. We turned around and we're sniping at them because they had time to swim ashore, when we approach i said something along the lines of "take your mermaid gracefully" after that one them seemed to see my name and say "oh its cranky" and then quit out. Idk if thats true because i couldnt really make out what he said, or remember his name if i knew him, but a pirate can dream of fame right? Though not of making players quit... It sounded like he said that though Lol. After that we cleared the island of the other 2 players, turned in our chests, and got a few more loads of cannonballs, they spawned and made another beeline for us, and matt dropped sail at the perfect time for a bullfighter effect with us sailing away from the dock and hitting them with cannonfire as they crashed into the dock yet again, at this point i gave matt the wheel and went and jumped ship to fight them, i would have done alright if that dang sniper reload bug didnt cut my mobility in half at one point in the fight (with me taking 3 sword strikes until i fixed it and sprinted away) but they chased me down an 3v1 sworded me lol. Such a good battle, wish i streamed it but atleast i have a clip of us on the sloop and the galleon sinking lol.

  • These are great!! Keep 'em coming!

  • Here's a little story I cooked up to fictionalise a quick session I had a few days ago. I've added quite a bit of artistic licence- I've added the pirate I want to be in the full release and tried to incorporate the situation in the beta into the SoT world. Apologies if it's a bit long- & for any nautical errors. I hope you enjoy...

                                    ---------------------------------------------

Penny Godwin swung the wheel hard to port and pulled her sloop, The Swordfish, around in a tight turn. The small green vessel pivoted smoothly in the calm shallows next to the beach, and pointed its bow north towards Galleon’s Grave outpost. As the ship came around, Penny was already moving, lowering the sail, and then hauling on the rope to angle it in the best direction to catch the wind. The crossbeam swung around, and the breeze caught the canvas and it billowed with a satisfying snap. Back at the wheel now, Penny levelled off and locked the wheel at centre.

It was a crisp morning on the Sea of Thieves. Business had been brisk so far that day; Penny had spent an eventful morning working her shovel, sweating and toiling beneath the blazing sun. Her shoulders ached and her arms were numb, from the digging and from hauling her bounty through the shallows and up onto The Swordfish as quickly as she could. The hard work had paid off, though; she’d uncovered an impressive payload of four chests from the barren little spit of rocks and palm trees called Tri-Rock Isle.

Penny let the heat from the sun dry her dripping clothes off as she stood at the wheel, occasionally trimming her course. The wind caught her auburn hair and she smiled. Beside her, in a neat row next to the capstan, stood her prize, three decent looking chests- made from good quality wood and solid metal casings- and one far superior looking specimen. The varnish of the wood and the workmanship of the ironwork spoke of quality, but best of all were the cut rubies set into the lid and sides of the casket. This was a fine chest indeed!

This was her best haul, without doubt. Four red crosses on the same map, all clustered onto a small island with, most importantly, no undead guardians to bother her on her hunt. Yes, it had been a sweet morning’s work, and Penny’s plan to be out at first light meant that most of the competition was still sleeping off their hangovers, but it would still pay for her to be careful on the return journey. Penny wasn’t back at the outpost yet.

The waves were rising as the wind picked up. As the bow of The Swordfish rose and fell, spray flew onto the deck. Penny kept the wheel true and adjusted the line of the sail. Satisfied that the sloop was following its course, she turned and leapt up onto the canopy frame behind the capstan. The tarp roof to the aft map room beneath her was rudimentary, but sturdy- it could hold her weight as she stood tall and scanned for pursuit. Penny pulled out her spyglass and popped open the cap. She put it to her eye and slowly tracked around.

It was clear running north to the outpost. The nearest island was to the west- Skull Keep, but Penny kept far enough away from the cannons that occasionally tried to catch a ship that sailed too close. A flock of seagulls circling over the waves suggested that there might be something in the water off to starboard, a wreck or some floating barrels perhaps, but Penny did not want to move from her course with four chests burning a hole in her deck.

Slow and deliberate, scan and rescan. Lower the spyglass to sweep by the naked eye, then back to the spyglass. Penny covered all quarters. Was that a sail in the hazy middle distance? No, just a fort tower off the side of the Keep- the dead pirates were being industrious again. There, a patch of palms, jutting out from an islet with a similar look to sloop’s mast and crossbeam. She still checked it out though, even though she’d done so every time she passed this way. The time a captain didn’t check was the time they found themselves unexpectedly robbed, sunk, killed or all three.

Satisfied that the way was clear, Penny jumped down to the wheel and did some correcting. The outpost was homing into view with its distinctive wreck perched atop the rocky spires at the centre of the island. Curious, Penny had asked for the story attached to the curious placement of said galleon, and had heard half a dozen variations, all taller than the last.

Beneath the wreck and the rocky points that it rested upon was the jungle canopy. Palms, ferns and goodness knows what else divided the top and bottom halves of the island neatly. Through this greenery could be seen the roofs and smoking chimneys of the outpost’s shops, stores and dwellings. Penny scanned the jetties closely for ships. With relief, she found none.

Now came the final approach. First, Penny raised the sail fully, hauling on the ropes with protesting muscles. The Swordfish continued to glide into port under its own momentum, but now the wind wasn’t adding to its progress. Next, Penny turned the wheel carefully, making minor adjustments to guide the sloop into the shallows. Lastly, Penny dropped the anchor, letting the capstan spin as the weight was unleashed. Timed just right, Penny had brought her little ship to rest right next to the shore.

Here was the final obstacle; the mad dash to the Gold Hoarder’s tent. Penny had heard from plenty of other solo captains that some unscrupulous and lazy coves lay in wait for you to deliver a haul into their laps, take it from you on the beach and cash it in for themselves. Penny had not had the misfortune to find herself in that situation so far, but today could very well be the day.

Before the bow and even come to a stop on the gravelly sand, Penny was already hauling her jewelled chest over the side. It landed in the wet sand with a dull thump. The contents jingled enticingly to her cautious ears, but the offloading made much less noise than if she’d dropped it into the water. With a final glance at the horizon, Penny leapt ashore. She hefted the sandy chest up and crept up the beach and into the trees. She paused. Birds croaked in the greenery and a hammer could be heard striking something further inland. The Swordfish creaked and sloshed behind her, but otherwise, she could hear nothing to raise her alarm. Taking a breath, Penny stepped out of cover and covered the last few metres to the front of the Gold Hoarder’s merchant company tent.

‘Ah, Miss Godwin!’ the gold-handed representative exclaimed when he saw her coming towards her. ‘What a wonderful find!’

‘Captain Godwin.’ Penny puffed as she dropped the cheat at his feet. The gold hoarder smiled an oily smile.

‘Not just yet, young lady. Anyone can jump on a boat and claim to be a captain. Rank has to be earned, and recognised, however.’

Penny rested her hands on her hips and regarded the loathsome man before her. Maybe he had a thing about her age or her gender? Maybe he was this intolerable with everyone? His superiority didn’t just come from being the wealthiest man on the island. The Gold Hoarders were suddenly sitting on a monopoly in the Sea of Thieves. The other trading companies had upped and left all of the outposts, almost overnight it seemed, for reasons that only they knew. Rumours had flown about the taverns, but no real answers were known. Where were the Merchant Alliance clerks with their fine clothing and their shipping quotas? Where were the mystics of the Order of Souls, cloaked in secrecy and sinister whispers? Only the Gold Hoarders remained, at present, and if they knew what was going on, they weren’t telling. But one thing was certain, for the gold-handed treasure lovers, business was booming in the absence of their competition.

‘There’s more where that came from, chest-kisser!’ Penny grinned, blowing the small man an elaborate and sarcastic kiss. ‘Total that up and I’ll be back with some more. And make sure you count it right!’

The little man bent down to the jewelled chest and got to work with his ring of ancient keys. Penny darted back to The Swordfish as the shadows lengthened into late afternoon. She made the same journey three more times, and at the end she was sweating and sore.

‘A commendable haul, Miss Godwin!’ Golden fingers clacked coloured beads along a worn abacus. ‘By my calculations this is the largest sum that you’ve collected for us. I will have to consult the ledgers, but I suspect that your standing within the company may very well have been elevated. I suspect that a new commendation will be added to your role.’

‘Great!’ Penny deadpanned. ‘Gold Deckbrush or something just as stupid sounding, I bet…’

‘Gold Swabbie is the next honorific that our company can bestow on you, Miss Godwin,’ the little man replied coldly, ‘but if you would rather take up employ with one of the other trading companies instead…’ He swept his arms around invitingly, a broad smile filled with gold and jewels creasing his scarred face.

Penny spat on the sand. ‘They’ll be back, just you see, and then you’ll have to remember how to share what every other scurvy sea dog drags of his boat.’

‘Maybe…’ The Gold Hoarder shrugged. ‘The sea gods do as they choose, and shape our futures like we’re all but pieces in an elaborately constructed game. If the other companies do return, and I pray to the Kraken’s soggy undergarments that they do not, then it will be a loss to us, but one thing will never change, Miss Godwin. Pirates love gold.’

The Gold Hoarder handed Penny a scrap of paper. It had written on it the total credit that she had with the company in light of her most recent haul. Penny did her best to hide her disbelief from the odious little man. It was the largest sum of money that she’d ever had attached to her name in all of her life. It had been a very good haul indeed!

‘Do you need any more work?’ The little man enquired. He knew the answer already.

‘Not yet.’ Penny smiled as she slipped the paper into her jacket pocket. ‘I have a mind to do some provisioning, and then I fully intend to sink a good deal of my profits into drinking every toothless sea dog in that tavern under the table…’

The gold hoarder chuckled mirthlessly and busied himself counting his mounds of money. Penny turned on her heel and flashed an extremely rude gesture in the direction of his back as she sauntered away.

The sun was setting. The western horizon was afire with strokes of red, orange and golden yellow. The thin strips of cloud glowed crimson around the edges where the sun’s last rays caught them. Shadows deepened and the dancing torches set around the outpost began to cast their flickering glow.

Penny walked through the trees deep in thought. The promise of healthy trade had brought her to the Sea of Thieves, and the rumour of new trade routes forged across v****n seas had prompted her journey to this particular corner of the ocean. But the Merchant Alliance had departed before she had arrived, and her only option had been to become a digger. She clenched her fists, feeling the blisters that her day’s work had created. It was hard work, but she’d done it by herself, and of that she was proud. A couple more good hauls like that one and Penny could pay off that slimy gold lover and the loan he’d granted her to buy The Swordfish. A couple more hauls after that and she’d have enough credit to be comfortable. And then, in a month or two, maybe, when the merchant barons and the skull witches came back to the outposts, the golden misers with their precious keys and superior ways would be weeping golden tears into their empty coffers.

Merchant Captain Penny Godwin. That had a ring to it, Penny thought wistfully- but not just yet… For now, she would do what she had to, and dig where she must. Earn the gold and learn these waters. Then, when the opportunity arose, she would forge her destiny.

But right now, she needed a drink…

  • My first tale is from a journey on a sloop with a wee landlubber, let's call him Jack Tar, new to the seas out on his first quest. I entered the crew mid-voyage in fact, and found that he had managed to sail himself to an island and dug up some booty, however, he had left the darn chest ashore as he ran from hostile skellies and hungry sharks. Nevertheless, I assured my new matey that he should most definitely get our treasure and I would provide cover sniper fire from the ship and keep an eye out for a far-off galleon I had just spotted docked at the next island over. Luckily the sharks had swum away, and I was able to shoot the skellies off the island and whilst I keenly awaited his return out of the forest I turned my attention to the galleon at the other isle. Upon doing so I realised that they had weighed anchor and were turning towards us.

Having now rushed Jack back to the ship, chest in hand, we immediately set off as fast as possible, sailing a circle around the back of the island to put it between us, for by now our foes were upon us! We sailed as fast as we could in the general direction of the nearest outpost to the north by northeast, Jack giving me directions. Slowly but surely, however, the galleon was closing the gap coming up on the right, cutting off our escape to the outpost now to the east. However, to our west was a large rock which I started to sail around, and for 5 minutes, I kid you not they must have had no lives, they chased us in circles around this one rock, every now and then they would fire at us when we were in sight, but they were clearly newbies as they missed each shot, and every now and one round I decided to run to a cannon and return fire, hitting 3 of my 5 shots before I ran back to the wheel. At this point, I had gotten a little disorientated and asked Jack for a reminder on the direction of the outpost, which was conveniently on the side of the rock we were. And so I steered off to the northeast, instructing my new friend to angle the sails for full speed, as we approached the outpost, quite fast I turned back to see how close our pursuers were, to my surprise I noticed that they were still behind the rock, as only the prow of their ship was visible along with the top of their front sail, which had been raised!

Then it dawned on me, they had also gotten tired of our game of cat and mouse and had Dropped their anchor and raised sails to hide in anticipation of us sailing around again, laying in wait ready to pounce! As such it was lucky that we had decided to leave when we did as it gave us a much-needed head start on our pursuers. For I knew they would soon see through our cunning ruse, so I decided to not slow for our approach, instead instructed Jack that I would sail as close to the shore as possible and to grab the chest and jump off at when I passed the outpost, cash in as fast as possible and meet me on the other side of the island as I was going to circle the island in a similar manner to the way I did the rock as it seemed effective beforehand. As we neared the shore I checked behind to see if the galleon had realised our deceit, and lo behold they had and were sailing towards us. Jack leapt ashore with the chest and had it cashed in seconds, and I could not see the galleon close behind so I sped up circling around, ready to pick up Jack, but alas!

The enemy was smarter than they initially led on and as I circled to the other side of the island I witnessed them approaching the island, circling in the opposite direction than we had gone and were headed straight for us! Luckily there was still some distance between us so I steered away from the island, instructing Jack to hide ashore (in hindsight I should have told him to try and sneak aboard their ship). As I steered away from the outpost I realised I was lined up perfectly to take some more pot shots at the enemy so I ran down to the left cannon and unloaded at them, and again landed 4 shots on the galleon as they sped towards my now single-manned sloop, though whilst they still had the angle they fired, and still missed, many shots. As they drew nearer I ran back to the wheel and turned hard right utilising my higher mobility to spin around, making myself an even harder target. It would seem they realised their incompetencies with aiming with cannons and had taken to shooting with their pistols and snipers, still missing by miles. As I realised there was no escape this time I decided, with no risk of losing any chests to quickly restock my cannonballs and then rush to my right cannon and unload at the galleon now advancing at ramming speed. I believe I hit 5 shots, the symphonies ringing out as eventually, they crashed headlong into the side of my sloop.

I leapt off the cannon, sword in hand and quickly sliced through their sole boarding pirate in 3 fell swoops, only sustaining minimal damage as he only landed one hit with his sword before I felled him. With a loud complaint about things being broken, and me informing him nothing was broken his skill was simply similar to faecal matter, he departed to The Ship of the Damned. I did, however, hear his captain shout to fire all broadside cannons, however, none on his ship listened as they scraped past the rear of the ship. As the primary fight seemed finished, for now, I sailed toward the outpost to pick up Jack and make repairs, ready to leap back into action. However, I discovered that Jack had located a friendly mermaid and was now back aboard the ship, as such I instructed him to patch the hole as I turned back to look for the location of our foes, but was astounded, and very much amused to witness them sink into the depths below! I had single-handedly sunk a galleon, and not for the last time!

Jack and I continued our journeys and gathered a great many chests, all in all a successful number of voyages.

  • We were at end of a treasure hunt and a boat was pulling up on us. They were jumping up down playing music and soon as they got within range start asking if we are friendly boat. We said yes but really we were waiting to take them out soon as we could.

One of our guys was still on island treasure hunting. SO they out gunned us 3vs 4 so we stayed polite and friendly. They start to ask questions about are we new? DO we have extra bananas that they can have. So about now its easy to see they want to see below deck as we go to get some fruit below he turns to look below our stairs. (this is a place a lot of people hide chests)
So I know he is looking for loot, As we go back to above deck. We get asked to team up on our mission. I am no idiot so I realize they want to hang with us until we finish our mission and rob us. Now at this point we do have about 4 chests in captains room. They decide to go get back on ship they came over on as its drifted away from us since we pulled anchor when they first came over. They hop on their own ship and start coming back.

Im talking to my crew as other guys are out of range. I say that I don't trust these guys and we need our 4th guy back so we can take them out ASAP. before the other ship is even back to us. One of the enemy crew comes up ladder and says "are we going to team up or what?"I say sure but lets put one of ours on your boat and 1 of his on ours. As I don't want other team all on our boat. By now our teammate who was hunting treasure comes back with gold chest and tosses it in captains room. (now they know where we have chest).Soon after a guy from the other crew climbs up ladder with gun out. Shoots at teammate.... I blunderbuss him and get other guy who was saying NOOOOO that's guys new to team. I knew he wasn't so the jig was up. they are down 2vs 4 with 2 dead so we start laying into other ship. Winning ship to ship easy. They come at us to ram us (the dead 2 on their team are back now. As they ram us one jumps onto our ship runs into captains room snags golden chest and hops over side.

We decide to let him go as we still have 4 chests and one of our crew wants to be done for the day. So we go to outpost turn in chests. Teammate says guess who pulled up to out post. It was same ship of dudes. They start off by shooting/sinking our ship. we fight on beach for a bit. We kill 2 and have the 3 vs 2 advantage so we rush boat. two guys on ship are raising anchor to escape to another outpost. I am able to climb up ladder as I hear anchor raised. We get to top deck and kill 1 enemy and lose 2 teammates. last enemy is at wheel sailing away. I go unseen to below deck. I find my treasure that was stolen. It was next to stairs below deck(same place they looked on our ship when asked us to borrow some bananas).I run it up jump over side swim it back to beach and score it. last few minutes I recorded. You can see it if you google.................. Sea of thieves stealing back loot-youTube game is EPIC

  • @clumsy-george I am stealing this move! Great thinking

  • Had a great time playing the Alfa & beta . Only thing I had a problem with was full servers for 2 1/2 hours . & spawn killing & tent camping . 2 sitting in the chest turn in tent . 4 times in one day . 2 times the last day .

  • Being chased I was, me and my tiny sloop, chased by a Galleon of fools.
As I made it to the closest outpost that I could get too.
Getting my treasures in while the Galleon of fools turned up and sunk my sloop.

But little did they see me jump from the docks and underwater, as I boarded their galleon from the other side.
And one by one I took them out with my blunderbuss. As they looked confused and was looking the wrong way. As I searched their ship and found their captain, blasting them into the pirate afterlife, and discovering they held nothing of riches but lots of red barrels of gun powder.

With one last shot from my blunderbuss, the barrels exploded and me being a fool also forgot the blast would get me too... But least I sunk their ship, as I waited to be resurrected and be reunited with my faithful sloop.

Just need to pop to shop and replace some of my limps with a hook and wooden legs :D

  • So after making two posts on the forum about it, I've finally found the section I should have probably posted my poem in :') better late than never I guess. I wrote a poem and the created a poster for it using the sea of thieves fan kit and a texture i found on google. Hope you all enjoy :)

  • @i-cyberwolf-i I swear upon me own hook this here poem needs to be made a canon part of the game somehow.

    🧜‍♀️A BETA PIRATE’s TALE🧜‍♂️

Just off the South-East coast lies a small rocky island, known as Skull Keep.

During the winter of 2018, four notorious pirate captains met on the island to make an agreement never to attack each other. As a gesture of good faith, each took with them a chest of personal treasure to be hid on the island. If any of the four were to be killed, their treasure was to be divided between those who remained.

Each hid his treasure in an individual spot and a map was drawn, showing the locations. There were just four copies of the map, of which each captain had one. Within a week of the meeting, all four pirates were dead! The Beta was over!

There were many rumours about the meeting that day, but no one knew the whereabouts of the treasure or who held any of the maps. The story was consigned to myth and legend.

Gather round as I recall ye the tale of:

The Damned Rider of the Ferry and The Song of the Dead.

~CHAPTER 1: THE CURSED CREWS OF VORPAL ISLE

There once was a Pirate Captain, tall and handsome, who sailed on this Sea in search of a way to make his mark and claim himself a Pirate Legend. He sought fame and glory, not of battle and conquest but of exploration and proving legends real.

One dark night when the moon was full and shining overhead this Pirate was exploring an uncharted isle he named Vorpal. This Pirate had been fighting skeletons since nightfall, an unsettling amount of corpses for such a small island. He reasoned that a battle must of been a waged here long ago and that these souls were all trapped to eternal conflict with each other.
He thought to himself mayhaps there be lost treasures to be found from these dead crews.

When the moon reached its peak overhead the moon shimmered an unearthly green and all the skeletons on the isle were resurrected to fight again. The lone Pirate figured this would be his death but fortune was on his side as something peculiar began to happen. The skeletons on the isle completely surrounded him but made no efforts to attack him. He then heard from a battle cry from his left side and behind him, as he turned toward these sounds he was face to face with two skeleton captains with drawn swords.

At once the battle began, with no way to leave the circle of skeletons the Pirate fought with all he had. Eventually he gained the upper hand and felled one of the captains. As the captain fell all the skeletons on the isle rattled briefly as if they are waiting for something to happen. But with little time to think about that the Pirate had to continue this fight for his life. With the battle seemingly never ending he finally was able to put the finishing blow in the skeleton captain. However something caught the Pirate off guard, it had looked like at the very last moment that skeleton captain put down its guard and allowed the strike to hit.

After taking a moment to catch his breath he saw something remarkable the skeletons around him were all rattling and they we all dropping their weapons. Suddenly there was that unearthly green light encompassing the isle. Then all around him a song filled the air.

    🎼 ♫♫♫ ♪ ♭ ♮ 𝄪 ♬

A hauntingly beautiful song that etched its way into the Pirate's soul. Calling to him, seeking him out. It was intoxicating. Restful and soul wrenching. He had never heard such a song before.

Then to his shock and fear the skeletons all around him emitted a strange light and he saw that their souls were visibly separating from their bodies and walking down into the water. It was mesmerizing and he wanted to follow them and sing that song...for eternity.. Before he new it he was standing at the shore line, one step from the water but he was stopped by a force on his shoulders. With tears in his eyes he turned his head toward whatever was stopping him. He saw that it was the souls of the two Pirate captains holding him back. One of them said to him "Thank you for freeing us but it not yet be yer time." The Pirate asked of the souls "At least tell me what is this song". And as the Pirate captains' souls walked into the water they spoke in unison "The Song of the Dead".

Then with the dead gone day broke through the night by way of sunrise. Before the Pirate collapsed out of exhaustion he saw that fabled green flash of sunrise and had a horrid realization that he could not remember how the song sounded.

~CHAPTER 2: THE ORDER OF SOULS

Since that night our hero was in search of any information of the Song of the Dead but to no avail. Only dead ends and rumors until he heard from a shady woman in a purple tent that there is an organization that may be able to help him in his quest. She said that if he were to join the Order of Souls and help their cause they would be willing to find and share such information. He agreed and asked what he must do. She told him to bring them the cursed skulls of Pirates long dead.

He asked for a number, how many would he need to pay their price? She said 12 to prove your worth to the Order, 13 more as compensation for their efforts to get the information and the cursed skull of a Pirate Lord as payment for the information. He asked how would he be able to tell what these skulls looked like and where to find them. She gave him a scroll showing what these skulls looked like and how much they were worth to the Order.

Now i'll skip this minute details on this but lets just say that the drawing of the Pirate Lord cursed skull looked mighty familiar and it was worth a lot to the Order. So our Pirate set off to gather this bounty of cursed skulls. His first stop? The Isle of Vorpal.

Upon reaching Vorpal isle the Pirate went to his battle site for all the cursed skulls that should be there. To his surprise of all the skulls only two were cursed, the captains' skulls. Since he saw the souls of the skeletons go free he figured that these cursed skulls were more along the lines of skulls that have magic or residual magic left over in them. However that's not what was important, turns out that both of the skulls were from Pirate Lords. He realized he could probably pay off the price with just these two skulls but the Pirate needed to check one thing before he did. If both crews of these Pirate Lords were on this isle where were the ships? They were probably sunk near this isle.

After swimming around the isle to check if he could spot the sunken shipwrecks he finally found them. All with their treasures untouched. It took all day but the Pirate was able to transfer two Pirate Lords worth of gold onto his ship. He figured he was one of the richest men on the Sea but he had plans for that gold.

Over the next few months he paid to have word spread that there was a benefactor seeking any and all cursed skulls and would pay higher than the Order of Souls for them. As time passed his fortune was depleting fast but his skull count was immense. There were even some fools that didn't know the worth of the skulls they sold him and were heavily ripped off. Eventually his fortune could no longer be called a fortune and decided it was time to go pay the Order for their information.

    ~CHAPTER 3: PAYING THE PIPER

The Pirate tracked down that lady in the purple tent and brought to her a bag full of cursed skulls. He said to her "Getting all of these was murder since there has been a mad hunt on the Sea for cursed skulls. I don't have a Pirate Lord skull but I figured it would be opportunistic to see if you would accept this exchange since we both know that your Order is hurting for skulls." She gave a nasty look and said "fine" as she took the bag. "Incidentally" she said "I have the information you seek."

She told the Pirate that there is a legend of a song that only the dead and those chosen by the dead can hear. A song that no mortal alive has heard and there is only one way to hear the song for yourself which is to entertain the dead. The legend speaks of a Pirate who long ago died before her time but refused to come back to the sea of the living. When the bell tolled for her return from the Ferry of the Damned she decided to stay and keep the dead company. While there is not much in legend about her time on the Ferry it has been said that upon her 30th hour or so the souls of the damned sang to her a song that she could never forget.

"Did she forget the Song of the Dead when she left the Ferry of the Damned?" asked our Pirate. The lady in the purple tent gave a small smile and said "No." With this the Pirate asked these questions:

    1. How exactly does one entertain the dead?
    2. Does it matter in what way I get to the Ferry?
    3. What happened to the Pirate who heard the song on the Ferry?
    4. What else do I need to know if I wish to try my hand at learning the Song of the Dead?

The lady in the tent gave a vicious smile and said "My dear Pirate, that's four more questions that need payment. How about 50 more skulls for all four questions?" He said "Fine and oh how much for a sloop I don't have much money to buy another and I need a new one." She laughed and said "A ship? We are not shipwrights but I suppose anything can be procured at the right price. So how about another 30 skulls and it will be done. But as you said it will be murder getting more of those skulls, good luck."

With a quick turn to walk away towards his ship he gave a knowing smile and simply said "Deal." In a matter of minutes he came back with two chests and said "The price is now paid. Tell me what I want to know."

She laughed and said "I knew it! I don't know how you could of afforded the prices you were buying those skulls for but I figured it was you. Here is what you want to know:"

    1. To entertain the dead you must simply be on the Ferry but it does help to be interesting. Especially since you want to learn the Song of the Dead you should sing for the dead.
    2. Again, be interesting I would recommend doing something bold for your death.
    3. It is said that she went on to form the Order of Souls her death is unrecorded.
    4. Lastly what you need to know is that
4.1) Madness will creep up on you before you realize it and you may find yourself walking straight out the portal back to the sea of the living.
4.2) Furthermore the 30 hours or so you need to last will seem like 30 years before you are through.
4.3) Since the understanding of time is finicky on the Ferry of the Damned you may find yourself 30 years into the future after leaving the Ferry.
4.4) You must remember when anyone dies on this Sea coming back from death is not guaranteed. In your quest to find the song you may be dooming yourself.

Once she was done the Pirate thanked her and asked about his new ship. She told him to take hers as she will send word for the Order to come retrieve her and the skulls.

He sailed away with his mighty collection of skulls on his new ship, stopped by a merchant ship to trade for barrels of gunpowder and set off towards his death. With time to spare until his desired location of death he started making a new pirate outfit using cursed skulls as part of its design. Making sure to use at least a part of each skull he made a coat, hat, vest, shoes, and sword of skulls. All said and done the ethereal light emitting from that outfit was mighty spooky.

Finally it was time, the sea waters started turning red and his ship started to creak under the stress of the waves. Once the ship started to take in water he lit a fuse, chained himself to his ship's wheel, and started to play music. Then with a large boom the deck erupted into splinters and the ship began to submerge. Down, down, down into the depths below.

Upon opening his eyes he sees a familiar sight, The Ferry of the Damned. He looked around to his bearings and he said. "So it begins."

~CHAPTER 4: THE 30 HOUR VOYAGE ON THE FERRY OF THE DAMNED

The first hours passed easy enough for the Pirate. Between singing for the other souls that pass by on the Ferry, testing his acrobatics while running and jumping from one side of the ship to the other, and to counting the candles on the ship the Pirate figured the 30 hours would not be so hard.

Many souls were amused with his antics and songs but all eventually left him to return back to the world above. He was alone and even for a spirit he felt cold. Was it five or six hours that had passed so far? For some reason he couldn't tell, surly it hasn't been ten hours yet. It sure felt like it though.

The Pirate looked out across the Sea of Souls and to his amusement a pair of skeleton sharks were chasing a skeleton turtle. Just when the sharks were about to eat the turtle a ghostly tentacle shot out of the Sea and dragged all three down into the depths. For a brief moment the Pirate was sure he saw the ghost of a kraken.

"sing to us" said a whisper.
Unnerved but still willing the Pirate began to sing the lament of Davy Jones.
♫ Cruel and cold like winds on the sea
Will you ever return to me... ♫

The Pirate felt on the fringes of his mind and soul a numbness, it felt like relief. Since there is no sleep on the Ferry any soul who stays too long will suffer exhaustion of the mind. An exhaustion that will build to be painful, so the Pirate accepted this numbness if only for just a few moments.

Before he knew it the Pirate was counting the candles on the ship again but this time it was over and over again. "113 candles, I counted them many times I am sure there is 113. Of candles unlit there are 61 of candles lit there 52. I am sure of it...but perhaps I should count them again to be sure." He said.

After some time his body started to act without him willing it to. He started dancing around the ship with reckless abandon. "What am I doing, why am I doing this, I should stop, why should I stop? No I should stop, I feel it. I should stop. I should stop. I need to stop! Stop. Stop. STOP!!" He cried out.

The madness that he was warned of took him. The Pirate finally regained his senses found himself only inches from the doorway to the overworld. With a shock to his mind he retreated towards the front of the ship and vowed not to risk his goal again. He would not bend to the madness again.

Yet the madness had left its mark. "How long have I been here? There is no way to tell... this weight on my mind is too great! Mayhaps a song or two can help.." He pondered. As he began to sing the shadows on the deck of the Ferry started morphing into the silhouettes of Pirates fighting. Was it his choice of song or something else that caused the shadows to change? He was never sure.

Some time later whispers were calling out to him but these whispers were growing in numbers, far too many for any soul to comprehend. "The voices! So many at once! They require me to sing over and over. I can't stop. Help me..." He said in his ruinous state of mind.

Time had passed in what could have been years. "No this has been too long! Time must be up! WHERE IS MY SONG?! I HAVE EARNED IT!! IT IS MINE!" His wrath was a sight to behold as even the spirits quieted down.

Yet his prize had yet to be given to him and still longer he had to wait. Who knows how long he was waiting but it was long enough for his mind to recover and his senses once more returned to him. "I have seen many come and go, time is but an enigma to me, but I shall succeed no matter the cost. Though madness has consumed me twice now I will not falter a third time." The Pirate declared with a smile and a laugh.

Not too long after his declaration all grew silent on the Ferry. It was so quiet that the Pirate could not hear his own thoughts. Then upon the air once more to his ears

    🎼 ♫♫♫ ♪ ♭ ♮ 𝄪 ♬

The Pirate cries tears of joy as he realizes that the song that he has sought after for so long has finally blessed his ears once more. With victory achieved the Pirate cheered as loud as he could, to his shock there was a roar of cheering coming from all over the Ferry. Before his eyes he sees the souls of the captains who he killed on Vorpal isle so long ago. They are joined by the men and women of their crews, they bring out some ghostly rum barrels and the crews start partying.

One of the souls of the captains said to the Pirate "Congratulations yah filthy sea dog we can't believe you did it! Not only did you set us free but you got to claim the Song of the Dead before your death. Now before you leave let us give to you the song you have longed for and a title fitting of a true rider of the Ferry."

The other captain spoke up to say "Let us sing for you so that you may never lose the song again." At this all aboard the Ferry began to sing at the Pirate and something unlocked in his soul. The pirate knew at that moment that he would be able to sing and play that song for all time, even in the sea of the living.

Once the singing died down the Captain of The Ferry of the Damned spoke up and said "I the master and commander of this Ferry of the Damned here by recognize your commitment and grit. You will now and forever be recognized as a Pirate Legend and be known as The Damned Rider of the Ferry."

The captain then pulled out his sword and threw it into the Pirate, soon after the other pirates on the Ferry put their swords through the Pirate. Finally the two captains drew their swords and put them into the Pirate's heart. They said "Let these wounds act as proof that even the souls of the dead are your friends."

The Pirate standing on the deck with many swords through him could only do one thing. He began to sing.

    ~CHAPTER 5: EPILOGUE

The story goes on to tell that The Damned Rider of the Ferry did eventually leave the Ferry and he can be seen sailing on the sea this very day. If you see a full moon you might catch a glance of that Damned Rider of the Ferry as under the full moon his spectral form glows ominous in the night. And if you are really lucky he might play for you his Song of the Dead.

The Damned Rider of the Ferry
and Master of the Song of the Dead

  • After waking up from my drunken stupor in the daggertooth outpost tavern, I boarded my sloop opting this time to leave my crewmates to their own dealings. Feelin' a tad under the weather I thought I'd take a look at one of the maps I had for nearby islands and before long I dropped anchor just off the coast of my target.

Twas as if I were fated to make land here as I found chests full of gold everywhere. Seafarer's chests and a Marauder chest dotted the coast and when I finally went inland to a hidden pool, I found not one but 2 cursed chests of a thousand grogs. There could be no doubt Poseidon himself had brought me here to be enriched and to cure the sickness of the grogs that came before by granting me a blissful stupor without the need to imbibe vile liquid.

Once I had gotten those aboard, I went back onto the land and dug up the treasure indicated on the map. My deck being half-full I felt accomplished and yet my heart desired more. Curse my greedy bones or bless them. For as I sailed the Sea of Thieves and made my way to the treacherous waters of Shipwreck bay, a potential rival who was sailing towards the same destination, sailed off. Grant ye I was tempted but my heart was set on loot. I dropped my anchor just short of land and found the isle stacked with treasure and messages in bottles. Twas not long before me deck was stacked with loot and I found 2 chests what mocked me. Both were cursed by the sea itself and expelled water with horrible wailing cries so I put them in the water near my sloop afore I went back onto land to rid it of its undead pirate plague. One after the other, the skeleton crews fell and their captains rose defiant of my last shots of me blunderbuss. The first I felled but at the cost of me last shots, forcing me to pull me blade. The blows we exchanged were punishing but mine were well calculated and eventually won me the fight. The two skulls in my possession, I dragged their cursed heads onto my boat and displayed them proudly near my map table.

I could feel in my stomach that unease what comes from holding loads of loot and so I took the two cursed crying chests aboard and set off for dagger tooth outpost. Alas there was another crew docked there and as I approached, they lowered their sail and set to pursue me. A few laps and well placed canon shots later, they pulled away and I never saw them again which left me with a grand ol' smile as I delivered a total of 15 chests and 3 skulls to the various merchants who gladly granted me gold in exchange. Once all was said and done I sailed to a random isle where again I was granted 2 chests of sorrow and after seeing a lone sailor at an outpost nearby, I brought him one and left the other to sit on the land before I sailed a circle around the outpost, dropping barrels of gunpowder as I went.

I can't say I stayed for the spectacular explosion what undoubtedly followed but I be certain twas a sight to behold. Meanwhile, here I am, a rich man with fancy tools and weapons ready to share challenging voyages with me crew.

  • @chillvikz I see your poem and raise you a limerick!

There was a poor pirate from Texas
    who never could find all the X's;
    so he gathered the boom,
    blew up every room
and every small isle where a chest is.

  • I set out for a Voyage by my lonesome not but 2 days ago..

Twas a brimy morn, an' I had just finished loading the two treasures into the bilge of my Sloop. I had located the chests using a trusty map I had purchased from a disgruntled fellow, and had pulled into the island's north-side cove to avoid drawing attention of others, facing Eastward. Alas, as I came topside, a Galleon came winding round the island at half sail heading West.

Quickly, I jumped ashore and cried out "Ahoy there! Fine morning for sailing!" to the passing ship. Jumping and Flickering my lantern. I saw movement above but did not receive a response from the crew until..

    KA-KA-BOOM!!!

A volley of cannon fire went straight over my head and then another volley hit my ship. Followed by pistol fire, which grazed my arm, but did not slow me down. Fearing the worst, I quickly swam for the ladders of my Sloop; then heading to the bilge to repair any damage to the hull. When I managed to cover the leaks with a few planks, I was able to bail a single bucket of water before I was sent upon.

The Galleon had overshot and stopped behind my sloop with no angle for their cannons to fire any more shots. They sent two crew over with murderous intention, while the others must have been repairing or preparing to re-angle the ship.

I had heard the water splashing about, so I headed up to the Helm, and peeked over.

"Get off my ship!" I declared; firing a pistol at the first pirate, and knocking him off the ladder.

Suddenly the other pirate had made it up the other ladder and drew his pistol to my chest. I turned about stowing my pistol, for I needed a quick response and my next shot still needed to be reloaded.

"Engarde!" I exclaimed, as I took a shot to the gut and slashed ever so vigorously at my attacker.

I was able to slash him four times before he got his second shot to land, sending him down to Davie Jones. My attention then turned around for another crew mate had heard the commotion and also decided to come to her crew-mates' aid.

I was able to reload my pistol and then took aim as the first Pirate began to climb the port-side ladder. I squared my pistol and shot him between his eyes; he plunged into the deep blue. The lassie who was swimming from the Galleon had seen me do this to her crew-mate, and fired one last round into my chest to claim my life as I was standing atop the ladder.

I plunged into the dark. I felt cold, but then, fate befell upon me, and the Ferryman of the Damned Souls saw it fit to give me passage back to the mortal world.

I gasped for air as I came back to. Sputtering water from my lungs as I stood. I stumbled to the lower bilge to check on my precious treasure; low and behold, the Lassie who had incapacitated me had the lesser of my two chests in her arms.

I must have given her the scare of her life, because she literally jumped when she spun around to hear me declare "Hands off me treasure!".

I swung with my sword, slashing her twice before she had actually realized what was happening. I then raised my pistol to her nose and pulled the trigger. Content, but displeased that the crew did not want to communicate with more than steel and gunfire, I returned to mid-deck.

Checking my naval charts quickly, I knew that there was an outpost not far North-East of my position, and decided I should get rid of my booty. I headed topside and raised the capstan, dropped the sail and took hold of the Helm. The wind was blowing straight North, so I headed North-East and angled the sails to grab hold of the strong winds.

Meanwhile, the Galleon's crew had managed to raise anchor and turn about, making ready for a chase. They knew I had treasure, and they were a wee salty that I had bested three of them already. They left behind a crew-mate in the water, who had been trying to swim over to my Sloop, but I had managed to get moving before he could make it.

A decent distance was put between us, I was about a third of the way to the outpost, and could see the outline of it on the horizon, but large rocks jutting out of the ocean were directly obstructing my path. I veered around the East side of the rocks, and now my trajectory became North, aligning with the wind and maintaining speed.

The Galleon decided to go around the West side of the rocks, but must have had some disagreement or disorganization amongst the crew. They were sluggish at reorienting their sails to catch the wind, which put an even greater distance between us.

As the port came into view, I carefully aimed the bowsprit to the left of the Ship-Wright's dock. I left the helm and went below. I knew once I made it to the outpost I would have a limited time to sell my treasure before my pursuers also pulled into port. I took my chests, one by one and placed them on the very tip of the bowsprit.

I did not care so much for my ship as I did my treasure on this voyage, so I allowed my ship to run aground the outpost at full sail, and without lowering anchor. I quickly dropped the less valuable of the two chests off the edge of the bowsprit onto the sandy shore, and picked up the other. I scrambled as I hopped ashore, my ship lurched backwards and began to slide back out into the ocean.

Not looking back for a second, a sprint to the decrepit old hoarder of gold, and making the fastest transaction I've ever witnessed, he threw gold in my pockets and spun me about. I dashed back to the sandy shore line and grabbed the second chest. The galleon had arrived.

Without hesitation, I again sprinted for the bejeweled tent, making my final transaction with the hoarder. I knew a face-to-face encounter with these Sea-Rats at the dock would result in a four versus one situation, as well as my untimely death. They knew not of peace, honor, or civilized conversation; so I played it safe.

I ran up into the hills, around the rocks and buildings and peered back down to the dock. The crew had decided to repair and then commandeer my Sloop since they had no loot to plunder, and no obvious pirate to fire upon. I chose quickly, (to stop any thoughts of victory coming to those mongrels,) to scuttle my ship, preventing theft of supplies or my Sloop entirely. I'd rather see her at the bottom of the ocean then in the hands of those Bilge-rats.

I looked on, as half the crew was aboard their Galleon leaving port, and the other two were swimming back to shore from my sunken Sloop in a daze. They knew I had to be lurking about so they started scouting the island.

A Merman surfaced near the docks where my ship had sunk, beckoning me over for a chance of escape; but I knew this was a trick. If I were to head back to the docks the enemy crew would surely be watching over it. The Merpeople were tricky devils, not always to be trusted. I knew there was a better option.

I then turned and raced down and around the shore to the opposite side of the island from the docks, and where I had seen the tricky Merman. As I rounded the corner of a rocky formation I came face to face with one of the crew that failed at commandeering my ship or preventing me from cashing in my treasure.

"Avast! Ye have nothing to fight for here." I spat.

We both drew steel. I antagonized my attacker as I held my guard, blocking slash after slash.

"Prepare yourself ye Scallywag!" I announced before striking out.

I landed three slashes by side-stepping, then letting out a combo. He did not raise his sword to block, and ran back a few steps to assess the situation. A smirk crossed his face, he then pulled out his pistol and loosed a shot.

"Oi!" I exclaim, as I tuck behind a palm as the trunk absorbs the shot and wood splinters around me. "Come fight me with honor! Cutlass on cutlass! Steel on steel!" I shout out.

I peek out from behind the tree he stows his pistol and redraws his sword, finding his footing as he finds the strength to fight through his injuries. I then step out from behind the palm and walk towards him, cutlass poised for action. He holds his block at first, but with some quick footwork and resilience, I land the final blow.

"That'll teach you to mess with the likes of me." I mutter, as his soul wisps away in the breeze.

I make for the shoreline, and swim right out to sea. I see another Merman surface and make way for him. A pistol shot whizzes by my shoulder as the last of the Galleon's crew curses himself for the series of events that has just occurred. A futile attempt as I arrive at the Merman's beacon, who guides me far away, to never be bothered by the scallywags again.

  • Some years ago I started work on a novel for my daughters. I believe I started writing it during my last tour in Iraq (2010-ish), or some where there about. It isn't done (doubt it will ever truly be "done"), but I do tinker with it, especially on holiday in the keys or the V****n Islands. Anyhow, it is not "about" Pirates, but they do play a significant role in the story. So, here is a small excerpt. You will need some background....

This is a fantasy setting. Our main character is a man of means named Lord Edwin McKellan. He has recently disembarked a ship that brought him from the north to the southern end of a very large continent. He and his Half Elven friend have just entered a tavern near the docks. Many of the sailors that were aboard his ship are here, one sailor is arguing with Mary. Mary is a rotund lady in her mid 50's. She is the obvious owner and barkeep of the establishment. Below is a short excerpt.

"I have told ye' Mary" the sailor squinted and leaned toward her "the Cap'n be lining up a big score". She smiled, a mouth filled with glistening white teeth. Edwin thought back to something his father once said "son, behind every smile is teeth, never forget that." He hadn't. Her smile turned into a chuckle, then a belly laugh. "Yer captain ain't nuthin' but a pirate" she took a deep breath "there is no promise in a big score that a pirate be arrangin'" she flicked her table rag at the man "no off with ye', I have payin' customers to attend to." The sailor ambled off into the murky shadows of the pub.

"Excuse me" Edwin said "Mary, is it?" She turned and looked him up and down. "now if ye' be here for collectin' his lord's taxes, ye be early, I pay at the end o' the month". Lord McKellan frowned a bit "No miss, I simply would like a drink, and a round for the men of the Missus Trumpet." She smiled broadly, "Aye, my apologies lad, we don't get many here dressed in such finery"

Anyhow, all I can share comfortably for now. Just a small piece.

  • Neglected this one for a while but here's a link to a new story by @ANUBIS316!

I know @ANUBIS316, a long time Community member, has written several great stories in the past, which seek to add to the lore of the game and the stories we create for ourselves in the world of Sea of Thieves.

Like the original pirates, all through history, this Community hails from many different countries, cultures and backgrounds and there is a place for all of us to carve our niche in the world.

It reminds me of something that was said during the recent podcast - the meaning of being a pirate Legend isn't necessarily all about the numbers.... it's about the Journey and the encounters, adventures and inspiration provided by those and the players who experience them.

  • oh wow Idid not realise there was a story forum spot. cool
