[BUG] Maps/Chests disappear on disconnect

  • I’ve had a few times during the beta where I’ll lose connection to the server in the middle of a quest (i.e., after getting the map[s]), only to spawn back in without any of the remaining maps or any of the chests that I had already found. Given that a good number of the chest types don’t give significantly more gold than the quest originally cost, this can get pretty expensive.

Any way that you could set up some way to track uncompleted maps and or unsold chests (not including stolen ones), so that disconnects result in the maps being reset? I’d be fine with having to redo maps (even a multi-chapter ones), after a disconnection . . . that would be a much better alternative than losing everything related to the quest . . .

  • @talemyn Ahoy there!

Sorry to hear that has happened, once you exit/leave the game session you are currently in you WILL lose all open voyages and any chests you have not cashed in.

Luckily crashes are automatically reported to Rare and there is no need to report them manually unless they happen continuously and re-creatable.

  • @musicmee Hey! :)

Oh, I assumed that it was just “the way things worked” but, I would still consider that to be a defect, so it was really half bug report, half feature request. It is simply not a good player experience to have something that a user has paid for with in game currency disappear due to a technical issue.

Losing chests to other players is one thing, but losing maps and chests to a technical hiccup should not be acceptable.

  • @talemyn The technical hiccup will be looked into and hopefully sailing should be much smoother... just wanted to let you know the other bits were functioning as intended.

  • @musicmee I guess my concern would be that Rare can’t always control the hiccups. I’m playing on Xbox, so while Rare may be able to make their network code as tight as possible, Xbox Live could go down, or even my personal Internet connection could go down. And, because of that, I would lose my maps and/or chests.

To me, it just doesn’t seem to be the best way to handle that kind of situation.

  • @talemyn
I agree. It did not hapen to me and i had no issue at all. Sailing have been perfect here. But this is a nightmare man. Loosing chest and have to do the quest all over again is bad, but losing maps too is to much bad. Id like to see a improvement on this situation.

  • @musicmee Will it always be that way that you lose your maps even when a normal exit?

Yesterday on the way to find a treasure, I stumbled upon 2 'message in bottles' and shortly after had to leave unexpectedly, and exited the game gracefully thinking I would just pick up where I left off next play. I was disappointed to find that the regular map I purchased and both of the message in a bottle maps were gone :-(

    thx

  • @slagg-slavin Ahoy there!

We don't know if the messages in a bottle will stay with you in the final game, however, any voyages you have open at your map table will not be in your inventory after quitting the game.

  • I spent 1 hour last night gathering a multiple chest quest, found 4 and on my way to an outpost the game froze and I lost everything. It's only happened once and unfortunately there is nothing you can do but move on.

Appreciate you can't give the total value of chests as this would encourage people to not bother with outposts and just quit the game. That said it would be good if you say got half the value of the chests back?

Being penalised because the game crashed is a real kick in the teeth.

  • or...they could just fix the game crash issues...ESPECALLY ON PC!!!! dunno how many times ive started..coming back from...or currently on an island completing a voyage just for the game to crash. can happen within minutes...half an hour...or hours...but usually happens withing a couple minutes...and since i search for galion crews to play with...this makes me spend more time in the beginning restarting the game and finding crew than actually playing. Its made me switch to my xbox to play this game...and I find that unacceptable. I love the graphics and load times on pc...only problem is the random crashes..which are extremely rare on the xbox for me

  • @jesusthebird this is also a cause for a lot of lobby hopping which a lot of players dont like to see. I dont hop lobbies for easy cash ins...i swap lobbies because the crew either sucks...or my game crashes....
