I was playing yesterday with a friend and we faced a ship that was able to fire their cannon repeatedly in quick succession it was like a machine gun cannon no stopping to reload I think someone found a glitch or exploit.

The reloading doesn't take very long if you carry enough cannonballs.
So in theory you could fire up to 11 shots from each cannon quite quickly without leaving the cannon.
A galleon with all 4 men on the cannons for example can be quite intimidating.
