I tip my hat to you Rare.....

  • I didn't get to play the alpha or any other previous play tests , besides this closed beta. And to top it off I only got to play about 2 hours last night due to matchmaking errors and not able to connect with a friend. But when it finally got us through and we spawned into the tavern for the first time and decided to drink two pints of grog and take a walk outside, I was just captured.

The attention to detail was mind blowing. Yes i know 2 hours isn't enough time to make a judgment, but I'd give this game at least a 9/10 already! I didn't know to do the same "drink, get drunk and try to walk outside", would be even more fun the second time when we had 3 of us for the first time, but it was. The laughter of everyone made me cry, it was just an experience. This isn't even to mention how beautiful the water is, the sounds, the distant hiccuping I can hear as I steer our ship, of my friends drinking below deck and the storms, love the sound of the rolling thunder and lightning. We decided to end our voyage with a song in the rain for a "fallen shipmate" and I got struck by lightning and it scared the hell out of me! But it was awesome!

I also had an experience of trying to pull our huge ship into the harbor, and right before I was going to yell "Drop the anchor!" my buddy decided to get sick on my face and I couldn't see! I freaked out and panicked to get us in safely but we ended up crashing into the island and taking damage. But again, it was awesome, and unexpected.

The game is beyond beautiful for me and I woke up this morning thinking about calling out of work , just to be back on my ship. Its amazing guys and thank you for making such an immersive experience for me and I cant wait to see what in store . Sorry for the long post :/

  • Update:

I must say and I guess I'm an outlier here, but i have had an amazing time thus far playing the beta and i have now sunk prob 8-12 hours into it so far, which is pretty reasonable. I can see how there may be a "lack of content" as so many have mentioned, but we do know there are 2-3 other factions to report to, boss battles with even more beefier skeleton captains, and the ever mysterious Kraken, and that's just from what we know as concrete. Even though there is only one thing to do, i cant get enough of it. I almost called out of work again just to play this "beta" and its only a BETA! Makes me extremely excited for March 20th.

I actually made a comment to my shipmate last night as we watched two 4 person crews dual it out, that "Dude its actually going to be quite difficult for us as pirates to sail the seas when we have more we have to worry about." And this comment was because we sneaked onto an island to get treasure right around them , which was exhilarating. And its true, I dont understand why anyone would say there is a "low skill gap" because we get wrecked, we are not great pirates, there are so many things i have seen other "more skilled" players do. We have adjusted our play style every day to try and get better and still might get owned or realize if we would have done "this" or "that" we may have succeeded. We ended up joining their fight, and if you want something awesome , that 3 ship battle was intense. We had 45 cannonballs on our ship and we used every one of them. EPIC.

  • I have had the same experience - although I had the added benefit of having this experience in the alpha as well as this current beta. I've just immensely enjoyed my time sailing around, getting murdered (and occasionally murdering). Even when I've had giant losses (RIP four chests that some enterprising individual stole from me yesterday), I've still enjoyed myself immensely. There is, after all, always another chest to find.

The real magic for me has been in the sailing - it feels incredibly satisfying, and while I've said it before a couple of times, the snap of the sails when you angle them to catch the wind just so is insanely gratifying to hear.

  • @forddent I agree man! Im glad to hear someone else having an enjoyable time with this. With you being in the Alpha, I have heard a lot of discrepancies of what was withheld from the alpha that is not in the Beta, is that something you can speak to of what is missing? Or is that under NDA regulations?

Just was curious of things to look forward to that i have not yet seen.

  • I also really enjoy this beta, although I am just a tad disappointed there wasn't a little extra content. I got in on the last Alpha, and there are some things missing. I think the Alphas are still under NDA though. I will just have some high expectations for the launch. I really feel that the water, and the way it behaves is part of what makes this game so great. There are plenty of other things that pile on to this, but the realistic behavior of the water really is spectacular.

  • @doxthafox I was rewatching Tales From The Tavern #14 yesterday, and at one point they got a question about a fishing guild, they didn't say anything definite, but they mentioned that certain factions might come and go as their motives change. So it is possible that there might be more. About the boss battles, we Pioneers have tested the Order of Souls, but later missions don't really get harder. i'm really hoping for true boss later on.

  • @th4tdudeth0 Yeah i cant get over the water and how it feels to sail. My "hands down" favorite part of the game. Its just......beautiful.

@firetadpole7469 Thanks for the input man, I'm really hoping there are things that would entice me or maybe require me to get off the ship for to help another crew member tackle because of difficulty. The fishing guild sounds amazing and at the least would be nice to do something with all the sharks i have killed lol. Im ready for another Tales From The Tavern podcast.

Again the possibilities and potential this game has, is enormous.
