The sound design in SOT is beautiful

  • Just got to say while playing the game some of the most gorgeous things about it were the sounds, some were super haunting , some sounded like whales (Shoutout to moby d**k because whatever whale is loud enough to hear on land must be huge)

but yeah just figured I would give props to the sound guys/gals at RARE

  • @chosen-predator Just sad there is no soundtrack :(

  • @slipkick01 that’s because we make our own. We sing our shanties and swab our decks. We trim the sails and pack the powder. The cutless are sharpened and cannons at ready.

  • @chosen-predator I have to agree. The sound design is amazing in this game, being able hear the planks creaking differentely when you are on a lower deck or the satisfying music cues when hitting another ship or setting sails in the right direction.
Not to mention the music playing in the background when on the sea :D

  • @slipkick01 Making my own pirate playlist to have in background while I play ☠

  • the way the instruments just seem natural is one of the most unique things ive seen in a game

  • @zombie-p1ague There is definitely an absence of music when you are on islands doing voyages or in fights since everyone will be doing their own individual thing rather than playing music in a group.
When you're sailing on a ship the music is completely appropriate, hope they add more songs to it. :)

  • @slipkick01

there wont be a soundtrack at all?

  • @the-unfriendly1 Isn't any teased yet anyway :P
Always felt there was a space for it.

  • @slipkick01

thats mildly disappointing.. i thought perhaps it was left out of the alpha. i do love the music ques for islands and ominous locations. but some subtle pirates of the Caribbean style music would be a welcome addition..

  • @ajm123 And they harmonize so well. Shanty's definitely sound way better when more than one instrument is played.

  • @rufustheblakman Do you prefer the Hurdy Gurdy or the accordion? :)

  • @slipkick01 I play the opposite of what other cremates are playing as it lends extra depth to the tune. If I had to pick one i'd say I prefer the accordion.

  • @rufustheblakman I can't make up my mind at the moment but if they add a violin fiddle (sounds more piratey) that would definitely be my favourite!

  • @slipkick01 The hurdy gurdy has a bit of violin sound to it, but I agree a fiddle would be an awesome addition to the ensemble.

  • @rufustheblakman there is kinda a reason why it sounds like a violin

  • @zombie-p1ague Nifty, that's pretty dang cool.

  • I completely agree. Sea of Thieves is all about that exploration and feeling like being part of the world. The sound is a massive part of it. But there is one thing missing. The one thing that I (as a player from a landlocked country who loves sea) really miss there so far. But I'm sure it will be added and can't wait. Seagulls. They just make the beach feeling for me. + it's so cute to feed them of hand and stuff :3.

  • @retto-elbaroda There are seagulls have you not heard them? :D

  • @slipkick01 What... really? :D I actually didn't. Neither have I seen them. Gotta check some videos really quick... xD

  • @retto-elbaroda They're not found on beaches really but they can be seen flying in circles above a shipwreck and they are pretty loud!
I didn't see much in the final Alpha but they were common before that.

  • @slipkick01 Oh yea! Idk how I forgot about them :D. Yea, ofc I know of these. But yea... I'd really like them just flying around, doing their seagull things and all. Whenever game worlds are full of birds, it brings them to life. Like Far Cry 1. Even tho they didn't necessarily have all the birds modelled and sometimes it was just the sounds, it still made the world really come to life. :)

  • @retto-elbaroda I completely agree

  • I can only go on the videos I've been watching, but I'm already impressed...
Can't wait to have my earphones on & be totally immersed...

  • @retto-elbaroda ahhh very true i didn't realize that specific sound was missing that is a MUST need, I've also seen a bunch of parrots flocking around in game too not sure what type of sound they make though.
