Sunken Ships

  • I was thinking about what should happen to ships when they sink. I know previously it was discussed a few times that they should stay as shipwrecks for a predetermined amount of time. I generaly think that could end up getting manic (unless a ship sinking despawns a shipwreck in the world and the new one takes its place) or, as it is sinking, it starts to deteriorate as it sinks and then vanishes... Just something small and aesthetic to make the finished game look a little more immersive!

Now apologies if this has been suggested, as some of you know the forum hates my cruddy phone so i struggle to get on here alot!

  • As each instance of the world map is only populated by a few boats, I don't think real-player shipwrecks are a bad idea. Maybe only one of your boats could be shipwrecked at a time, though, in case you keep sinking your boats.

  • I think something like this would create more emersion to the game. It might be another way for those raiding other ships to get some small bounty.

Perhaps the winning team can farm some mats from the wreckage.

To that point, has it been stated what happens to any treasure chest that a ship is carrying if it is sank?

  • @avirex-idyll All chests are magical and therefore float to the surface.

  • @icecreammanatee ah, thank you.

  • @icecreammanatee Although they are only magical for a short amount of time before they sink to the depths never to be seen again!

  • @musicmee Oh, really? I thought they floated indefinitely. Interesting.

Floating chests do create some interesting dynamics. If I don't feel like a fight, but I'm being chased, I could drop a chest (obviously one I know is worth less than others) as a peace offering. Then the following ship has to decide if they want to stop for treasure, or pursue for the PVP aspect--of course, they might just suspect I have better treasure aboard.

  • @dumy2008 i think it would be cool if in shallow water it remains for 30 mins but the problem would be the next ship that loads in if its at a outpost might glitch out because it might load in on top of it

  • @ajm123 i see your point, what if its a case of proximity to islands... say if its close to islands, you get it disintergrate and disappear, whereas if you are out in the vast sea, it sinks and stays for a bit
