Players' sunken ships and chests question.

  • I was wondering if u have a chest on board and ur ship sinks. Will we be able to go back to ship wreck in a certain amount of time after respawn and loot our old ship. (If we stay in same server after ship respawn.) Also could we have a way to find a treasure and hide it or does it disappear after a certain amount of time. For instance i seen that treasure chests in water floats could we land a shore, find a chest and swim under our ship and hide it there for more strategy added in game. Thanks

  • @moeman91 Ahoy there! Very good questions indeed. At the minute if your ship sinks with chests on board they will slowly rise to the top and float about for a few minutes to give you time to salvage your loot. With a bit of luck you may be able to hide chests under your ship while you are stationary, however, the easiest thing to do is to hide them in the bushes and rocks on the islands.

For a few minutes ? Any idea how many minutes ?
So if i sink someone's boat with 3 or 4 chests hidden in its hold, the boat goes under but the chests/skulls will float on the water above it ? Am i correct ?

I don't know if the "few minutes" comment is correct because my experience tells me otherwise. One time I had to ditch my ship because it got beaten up badly and it was clear that I wasn't going to be able to escape the enemy. So I threw my chests overboard.

Now, I was right next to an island and there were some rocks in the water just a bit away from the beach. I actually left the chests in the water right up against those rocks and went to the mermaid to respawn my ship.

Then I sailed my ship all the way back to that island and my chests were still there! So I can say for a fact that they can float indefinitely. However I don't know if they would have floated indefinitely if I just let them sink with the ship without handling them.

  • @sprucetexas689 thanks. Very useful info. Makes dynamics of the game much better. If someone chasing ur ship, u could send a friend to island with the treasure lose the ship and resail towards them.

  • I believe "throwing your loot" and letting it "sink and float with the ship" have different timers. Hence his quote "At the minute if your ship sinks with chests on board they will slowly rise to the top and float about for a few minutes to give you time to salvage your loot" and his followup "With a bit of luck you may be able to hide chests under your ship while you are stationary, however, the easiest thing to do is to hide them in the bushes and rocks on the islands."
