How to evade from another crew in pursuit

  • There have been discussions about how it's near impossible to evade from another boat in pursuit.

If you really don't want to fight, here's a technique that should work pretty well :
Keep your captain at the wheel, all other crew members must jump in the water discretly from the front of the boat, they have to stay under water to keep low profile, and wait for the boat in pursuit to pass by, then climb onto it. First order of mission : drop the anchor, it should be an easy task since it's really quick to do. Then, blunderbuss the hell out of the enemy crew. It should give you enough time for you captain to be far from the action now.

It's pretty much a suicide mission but it doesn't matter since your crew will respawn at the boat. If you're the one on the mission and don't die, a siren will appear when your boat will be far enough, letting you respawn at the boat. Otherwise, you can also suicide by drowning.

    Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

The entire time of what ? Of a pursuit ? It can go on for half an hour. Are you crew members going to stare at the ladders for half an hour non stop ? That's why i'm talking about discretion, you don't want the crew in pursuit to see you in the water. You could also all climb the same ladder one after another, with the time to reload the blunderbuss, at least one out of three has a good chance to drop the anchor.

  • @splatulated Remember that we will have gunpowder barrels and the eye of reach. With the drop off of even that ranged weapon, it will be far easier to hit those chasing you than it would be for the pursuers to shoot you. It seems that if you have a decent advantage if you are the one's running away from ships. If your argument is on how to do that solo, there are those twin rocks everywhere that only sloops can pass through unscathed. I've lost people using those a few times.

  • Another method of escape in galleon vs. galleon (sloop vs. galleon has a somewhat different set of tools to escape) is to bee-line for the nearest storm. Visibility takes a nasty hit, and crews get preoccupied just keeping the ship afloat, making it easier for them to lose sight of you. Some crews may even give up pursuit beforehand simply not wanting to deal with it.

That said, you better have a decent supply of planks yourself.

  • Gonna be honest, the first time someone did this sneak attack thing to me it caught my friend and I totally off guard. I think we were probably just too focused on trying to figure out why their galleon was running from our sloop, but whatever. You can hear the people in the water briefly when they surface to climb on to your ship, so you don't have to be on the ladders the whole time. That's how we ended up preventing them from repeating that process.

  • Run like hell

Especially since you can do a 360 very quickly as soon as you're out of their vision. Raise the sails and raise the anchor and wait. As soon as the galleon zooms by, full speed in the opposite direciton. By the time they turn around you will be so far away from them most crews won't chase.

  • Since reefs are being added to the game, I wonder if those would be able to be used tactically as well. Small ships can pass over, large ships take damage or run aground. Maybe?

  • Better hope you and your crew know some maneuvers...try listing lazily to the left.
It actually seems like a knowledgeable crew and good cooperation is what will be needed to excel at naval combat and evasion in game, and if your crew can operate the sails well and coordinate you could always turn into the wind and tack while (hopefully) your pursuers come to a dead stop.

  • After all, if you're trying to be a pirate legend, you'd better know a thing or two about sailing.

  • I imagine you can lasso ships when you're close enough and have your men board it while they climb across

but the fact its only 4v4 kind of makes it weird

who knwos maybe they will add bigger crews one day

  • @aenima123 pretty sure that also why you can use barrels to make it harder for a pursuit as I'm thinking the damage is more significant 👍

  • Good idea!

I did not know about this possibility, comic.
