streaming questions

  • Soon, the NDA will be dropped and Closed Beta players will be free to stream or take screenshots. I will be taking a ton of screenshots in 4K HDR. But I haven't had much luck trying to stream other games over the past year, both via Mixer and Twitch. The picture quality and framerate are seldom good enough. Does the ability to stream depend mainly on one's ISP and internet service plan?

What upload speed is necessary to stream well at 720p or 1080p? 6 Mbps hasn't worked for me.

What other factors affect stream quality? What can I do?

  • if i had to guess better internet better quality try running a Ethernet cable so u get best connection possible i dont know much about streaming though

  • @hallower1980 And you could just record it and upload to youtube, can't you?

  • @hallower1980 not particularly useful advice but:

"The faster your Internet connection, the better — you should probably aim to have an upload speed of at least 3MB per second, which should be attainable on most home Internet connections or even via mobile."

3MB per second and 3 Mbps are also different....

  • an extra opinion:

"The amount of bandwidth required will depend on the quality of the stream. For a ballpark estimate of the speed required for streaming live video, here are the estimates that Netflix provides to its users (which are roughly transferable to live streaming):

500 Kbps – lowest required speed for streaming
1.5 Mbps – recommended speed for quality viewing
3 Mbps – Standard Definition video
    5-8 Mbps – 720p and 1080p High Definition
    25 Mbps – 4K Ultra High Definition

personally I have never streamed live properly due (in part) to my internet being.....a tad iffy....and also because I doubt anyone would watch because I'm mediocre on a good day :D

  • @triheadedmonkey I would watch you. An don't care about how good you are. You will get better-

Hope to see you on the sea :D

  • I just tested my Xbox connection.
    90.32 Mbps download speed
    5.95 Mbps upload speed
    0% packet loss
    1480 MTU
    39 ms latency

Is any part of that problematic?

I have read that Tom's Guide article and others before. They are PC centric or recommend external hardware. But I thought the whole point of integrating Mixer and Twitch into the Xbox One was to negate the need for external hardware. And shouldn't my Xbox One X have the necessary power to both play and stream?

  • @jcmdeadpool said in streaming questions:

Only in small clips unless I invest in external hardware or upgrade my laptop. It's particularly annoying that Microsoft doesn't allow sharing of 4K HDR to Xbox Clubs and such. It has to be exported to OneDrive and then uploaded to YouTube.

I'm an amateur photographer. Sea of Thieves is ideal for cinematic streaming because it avoids a HUD. It would be a shame if I could only take screenshots and share clips of 30 seconds (4K) or a few minutes (1080p).

  • @hallower1980 Sorry, I didn't now we talk about X-Box. Absolute PC gamer over here :D

  • Not to sure how streaming works on the xbox since I don't own one, but I have streamed on the PC. My internet isn't that good I have like 2mb download and just barely 1mb upload. Setting my bitrate to 500kbs seemed to work just fine though. Again, I'm not sure if that would work on the xbox.

  • @hallower1980 not sure how feasable or realistic it is....but if you were to stream your xbox to your laptop (assuming it is Windows 10) through the Xbox app, would you be able to capture longer (bigger) videos?

  • @triheadedmonkey
Mediocre on a good day!!! Hahahaha, overestimating your skills again eh monkey??
