I applied during the alpha and got an email which suggested I'd be invited to take part, but never got anything else after. I've now received an email inviting me to take part in the beta (presumably for Xbox) but don't know how/when to install. Can anybody help?
Sorry if this is a frequent question - I've checked the FAQs and searched the site but can't find an answer. I think I must have slipped through a gap somehow and so don't have it installed. Still, can't wait!
@marathonninety Dont have a xbox myself but you have to download the insider hub then download it from there. https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/xbox-insider-hub.
@ukscrash crikey, as if it was that simple! All sorted now, thank you. A friend from work did mention I needed the Insider app, but when I searched for it on the Xbox app on my phone I couldn't see it, so assumed I hadn't been granted permission. Found it on the console in seconds.

@nos37 thanks also, so the beta will be a separate download I guess. At least I have the app ready now!

No you can pre purchase the game to play the closed beta when it opens on the 24th.
Or be a insider that was signed up by December 1st cut off point to play alpha/closed beta.
Pioneers are hand picked people to test the game in and out of hours to provide game feedback.

Marathonninety mentioned downloading the alpha even though his query was for the beta, and I didn't see Pioneer in his title.
@nos37 I registered a long time ago, but couldn't figure out how to get it and was kind of busy with other stuff, so forgot about it. Insider had an option for alpha once I installed it though, so maybe I should have access. Will see in five minutes when it finishes downloading, although alpha is fixed times isn't it?
@nos37 indeed. It loads and then says I'm not able to play. All good, at least I'll be ready for next week!

@xxakill27xx as I understand it, everybody will be invited. Maybe just try and see if the game is there for download tomorrow?
