In the most recent video (Progression in sea of theives) I noticed at 2:49 that there is a model of a ship on the (I assume) captain's table.
This has led me to believe that this is probably an interface for ship customisation, sails, paint jobs etc. In addition to this there is a tiny plate on the base of this, perhaps where you can name your ship?

@syrio-forel Good catch! I think you're right.
Other people have noticed a name plate above the door to the captain's quarters. I think the larger plate will probably just display the ship's name while this smaller model will open the customization interface.
The trailers have made it look like we can customize a ship's flag, sails, and wood. I really hope we have options for the figurehead on the front of the ship as well.

@syrio-forel I've been thinking the same thing as well. The only thing that gives me pause is I don't remember seeing a similar model on the video we've seen of the small ship.

I have not gotten to play the game but I do have it pre orderd. Still I know that this will not be like most survival games we have played so far. But I hope it will give us a lot more customization eventually.
Even if the customization is skins or cosmetic. Having the ability to change the look and feel of the ship would be amazing. They could bring out Merchant ship skins, Junk ship, Barque ship and soooooo many more
Customizing your character with different clothing skins, items, and weapons the ability to give your character tattoos and piercings even if it’s just cosmetic skins it be coolI would love to see skins for different ship types from different parts of the world even if they are just cosmetic.
Junk- They vary greatly in size and there are significant regional variations in the type of rig, however they all employ fully battened sails.
Barquentine- a sailing vessel with three or more masts; with a square rigged foremast and fore-and-aft rigged main, mizzen and any other masts. Famous pirate ships of this type were Good Fortune and Sea King

From the merchant ships to the Spanish Galeon French warship and frigate@nagash-iv nice job finding all those figureheads. Very cool options included thus far.
@Syrio-Forel i think youre onto something with that being a way to customize your ship. At the very least it would be a way to get a full view of it where you otherwise cant maybe

that doesnt sound very iffy to me. sounds like OP is spot on and ship customization will be a thing. :)

The Ship Customisation has already been announced back in 2016 - attatched are some photos shown at the event / / /I like the idea of customization for ships, perhaps having a symbol om the sails of a ship would be pretty cool. Kind of like the generic skull and bones or the sea of thieves skull logo could be added as basic symbols but symbol insertion on sails or sail color hues would be amazing. I also love the idea of customizable figure heads, but I would also like cannon customization designs and color textures.
