Is there going to be a sort of guild/faction creation or join system where we can team up on a larger scale with other pirates?
Factions (player)
There already are 3 factions we build reputation with Gold Horders, Merchant Alliance, and Order of Souls.
Now what your thinking of is clans or leagues. Problem is each Pirate ship has the possibility of being a clan/League because you have a group of friends already teaming up and playing together on one vessel or together each in their own small ship

The "together each in their own small ship" will be an issue with how world instancing works where you don't know (and can't control/choose) currently on which game instance you'll end up, meaning, if a group of 8 friends enter the game in 2 galleons, each of those ships will end up in totally different "worlds" (i.e. game instances or "servers" as many like to call them) and they'll never see each other while standing on the same (map) place.
It would be nice to have a way to influence/choose which game instance a group of ships will end up, in the future, when the player count increases per game instance.
...and as per the thread topic, yeah, I would like to have a higher level of player groups/clans/leagues/factions that would allow natural team/crew/ship co-op against other teams/crews/ships of different groups/clans/leagues/factions (I know, so many ways to name the same thing).
AFAIK, RARE never mentioned this level of co-op to be controlled/managed by the game itself.
Players may try to achieve it organically, outside the game, hoping many of them land on the same game instance to have enough members on that game session to be effective i.e. to play as a fleet of ships of the same clan/group, but as explained above, that's also something we (players) can't control.@absorbedgecko90 said in Factions (player):
I hope there will be some sort of fleet vs fleet mode. However on normal maps big factions could cause problems, because the biggest faction will always rule the map.
True if everyone was playing on the same "world" but as it's done now, members of "big factions" may end up in game instances where they are the minority by random (lack of) "luck".
@do0d0x-73 They have mentioned several times they are not planning on doing things that will "boost stats". They don't want a progression system where experienced players and brand new players can't play together due to the difficulty/levels. The main gameplay influence (non-cosmetic) you seem to unlock is access to more complex/bigger Voyages.
Also, from what we saw in the videos we don't need to "join" the NPC factions, we just do tasks for them to increase our individual reputation/trust with that group. That is what gets you the better Voyages.@erikinthebakery ok thanks for the information with your argument it's a good idea no stats boost ^^
