I have been playing in the last tech alpha and racked up a good 60 hours or so playing this amazing game, my friends have already dubbed me "Kitetsu the Shark Slayer" for my disposition to carelessly jump into the water when someone shouts "SHARK!!" for the glory of tangling toe to fin with these dastardly creatures that infest our waters. I managed to slay 40-50 of these vermin in the short time I've played, fending off up to 6 at a time amidst the heat of a tri-ship engagement. And I was really wanting a system that would allow me to keep tract of how many of these beasts I've slain, something like a shark tooth necklace/collection. Or maybe a shop keeper that gives quests for hunting legendary beasts either dead or alive. But all I'm saying is I really like the idea/sound of "The Shark Slayers' Bait and Tackle". Who else wants to join my "Legion of Shark Slayers" and/or be a "Legendary Monster Hunter Extraordinaire"?! If you deem yourself worthy enough for the task...
Shark-Bait-Ooh-Ha-Ha!
I can attest to this mans pure inanity... I was once on my way back to the ship on a glorious after noon on the sea when sure enough on the horizon we spotted 2 ships headed in our direction. As the battle ensued the bay began to fill with more sharks than I had ever seen before... No sooner did someone shout "SHARKS IN THE WATER" did the crazed man known as Kitetsu the Shark slayer jump from our roaring ship to encounter these demons... I just so happen to be getting in the water to see a display of pistol to blunderbuss to sword action followed by the slow decent of fish guts to the deep... I will tell you I have never felt so scared and amazed in my life... All hail the SHARK SLAYER! Pick me for your crew CAPIN!
@demonicgrip Are you tired of taking leisurely swims with gold chests only to turn around and see a shark rushing at yer bum? tired of fearing the dark depths of the treacherous waters? Is tracking down some of the most heinous and dastardly monsters one of your dreams, join me on my quest to rid the waters of these nefarious sharks. Join the Shark Slayers!
@scaredterror469 Aye Matey I'd have you on me crew anytime and well show them sharks and pirates whats what I'll tell ya what.
@humlaaa but what would be the benefit of stronger sharks? No one would go into water anymore in pvp-fights, because you could be attacked by a shark. Making sharks to strong would be like patching out the swimming ability.

One scenario that would need stronger sharks:
You and your crew is sailing towards a destination, when you are closing in you see a hostile ship who starts shooting cannonballs at you. You and your crew decide to respond to the fire and board the ship where you take out almost everyone who is on board. You capture the last one and make him walk the plank and jump into the sharkfilled water but lo and behold he just simply kill the sharks and happily swims away.
Weak sharks ruins the immersion for me. They shouldn't be overpowered to the point where you can't kill them at all but they should be stronger and harder to kill imo otherwise there is no point of having sharks in the game. They just become annoying, not frightening.

but how do you want to board their ship, if you loose most of your life because you are attacked by sharks?
I can understand if some user want to show off their skills by saying the sharks were weak, but making sharks too strong would completely destroy the game mechanics.
@absorbedgecko90
Get your ship close to the other ship and quickly jump into the water and climb the ladder, aim and load yourself in the cannon and hope to land on the enemy ship, if implemented; swing yourself over with ropes etc. be creative.
As of now (during the tech alpha) I feel the game is too forgiving, which I understand as they want everyone to be able to jump in and play. If it were more unforgiving such as longer respawn time, some kind of penalty if your ship sinks (repairing costs or something in those lines) I could live with the sharks as they are now. Right now you just die, wait about 30 seconds and then you spawn back on the ship so dying by sharks is not really a big deal unless you are alone carrying a chest.
The first thing I encountered during the tech alpha was a shark and I was dissapointed when I killed it easily on my own. If you are with a crew the sharks wouldn't be a huge problem even if they were stronger.
i haven't played the alpha yet but it would be cool if there alot of player activity in the water, more sharks would get attracted and heard around making it more risky to be in the waters but having a shark tracker im a +1 in that. that would be amazing if you can collect its tooth and have it show around your pirates neck showing off your bravery
@demonicgrip I love the idea. I think a shark tally system with reward and maybe an achievment would be fantastic. I too enjoy slaying the sharks.

Is it just me who thinks that it is too easy to kill sharks? I think sharks should be a bigger threat.
Sooooo, this is you than? :)
https://media.makeameme.org/created/all-i-asked-lfjqj8.jpg@demonicgrip I would love to see beast slayers as a whole 4th trading company.
Rewards could be clothes like shark tooth necklaces, fur clothing if they decide to add ocelots or jaguars or something (jaguars could be the sharks of the land!) or (and this is a weird stretch) magical tentacle hair or beards from killing a ton of krakens. Maybe even a hood made out of a shark skin, for the most legendary of sharks slayers, who have killed a ridiculous amount of them. Also I'd like to ask you, what's your shark killing strategy?
