Question to RARE regarding pre-order

  • I do not plan to do this myself, I'm hooked on this game like a lobster in a cage. But My friend I am trying to get into this wont touch it without a refund policy in place for the microsoft store.

Now, RARE employee or even other forum goer. Can he REFUND this game before its release if he gets into the beta and doesn't like it? This seems like a no brainer answer but I can't find a clear cut response myself...

A link with info would be helpful too.

  • @cayden-black It should be like any other game you buy. If you play the beta, but don't like it you should be able to cancel. As for an official Rare answer, it seems you've just missed the boat as they've closed up for the holidays.

  • @whenkoalasattak I'd think the same thing but I can't find anything yet saying so. And I figured they might have left. My only response to that is "oh b****r".

  • Refunds would go through Microsoft directly, not Rare, so your friend might be able to get an answer through Xbox support.

  • @cayden-black Ok so I've done some digging and the answer is: It depends. How is he going to preorder? In Microsoft's refund policy it clearly states that digital games are not able to be refunded. Now I'm not sure if they'd make a special case before release, but I doubt it. However, for a physical copy you can return it within 30 days after purchase.

Thanks for looking whenko, I think I found more on this subject as well. I'll link my source below.

Apparently, it DOES DEPEND on the item but most games bought through micrsoft store CAN be refunded but NOT on the first day or release and you MUST HAVE STARTED THE GAME. but NOT played more than 2 hours. So basically, Microsoft need to clean their refund policy to bring it to the modern age but it should be possible.

    Sauce below

  • @cayden-black You should be able to cancel your pre-order:

You don't get charged for the game until 10 days before release I believe. As for if they wait until they already own it, that link you found is what I was going to link to as well.

  • You can refund unlimited pre-order games up to one day before official release.
The beta is different license and doesnt matter if you played beta 2 - 10 - 15 hours.

  • @cayden-black Yes you are able to refund up to ten days before the release date, so you can refund at march 10 and before. So if you don't like the beta you can refund.

  • I like that Xbox has a similar style now to how steam games can be refunded, but I would concern myself with the idea that if more than 2 hours were played using the beta code if it would be considered fair use of the product then the computer systems may see that 2 hours of game time was utilized.

I would say that there would be a guaranteed option to return if you used less than 2 hours in the beta, and would be weary of any additional use possibly coming back to haunt the person who might want a refund.

Just my 2 cents as a gamer and Technology Technician IRL.

P.S. checking with microsoft through an actual chat might be your best route.
