Or will it just update to beta when its time?
Is it safe to delete the alpha?

@achilleslastand - I'd hold off deleting it for now in case Rare decide to use this for the beta. We probably won't hear what their plans are until the New Year.

Personally, I'm going to delete it. Since, I expect and hope that the Beta will be substantially larger, with more content and much more of a game. So I can get more space in the meantime because a massive update will be the same for me as downloading it fresh, if they've added as much of a step up from Alpha to Beta as you'd hope for.

If you just want to free up some space but, don't want to completely nuke the alpha then you can go into the manage games menu and simply remove the game data. I would keep any saved player data though. Then, if you try to play the alpha again, will simply re-download the main game.
