Remove diving to voyages / add more incentives to stay on a server

  • Diving was initially a great time saver and a good way of kickstarting a voyage / session. The issue with diving is that it removes the incentive to stay on a server when you can just dive to the location you want to be instantly, which just leaves servers having a couple spots filled by players that are just diving to server hop / leaving for a new server, sometimes making adventure feel dead. Diving also means the longer, organic interactions are less frequent, as although they still happen, diving just makes the seas feel more empty and gives less of a chance for those stories to take place.

Rare have acknowledged this, as they are testing the removal of raid voyages and incentivizing people to do world events which is a step in the right direction, however the gold hoarder dig spot dive quest server hop method is still the main reason servers still aren't as active as they could be, and I think the complete removal of diving would fix that issue. Alternatively, an incentive like an extra gold multiplier when selling, or a small amount of doubloons after an hour or two of play on the same server would naturally discourage people from diving so often which would result in more player to player interactions which is the core of the game.

  • Imo, diving for everything outside World Events should stay. If player are looking for something to do in particular on a server and they see that cannot be done there, they should be able to dive to another one easily. Before diving you had to portal hop and it was really slow. The main reason server are empty is because a lot of people quitted, very few veterans are still playing, and those who are actually playing now are HG players, casuals and new players. The content drought, reskin dripfeeding, cheating, forgotten lore and terrible bug fixing all contributed to this situation. I'm currently waiting for the August Community Direct, and from the news we have heard, there will be another long period of content drought, right when it was the time to finally introduce the GMU.

  • Remove the portals from SoT, those stone arches can stay but remove the portal.
    Remove Diving all together.

    There no portal hopping.
And increase time between starting a TT and ending it so they can’t simply dive to TT and hop around. (Or make SS only place to do TT)

  • I suspect they are concerned that removing all dives would be a negative for streamers as they constantly dive for content - while also complaining that diving is a negative for the game.
I can think of no other reason why they would keep the low tier dives when removing World Event dives.

Who really needs 2 chest dig other than server hopping?

Remove all dives apart from Ashen Garrison's - and make them a cornucopia of Faction Loot that has been in the Sea Forts, World Event etc dives previously if unavailable via sailing voyages.
Diving reverts any flag to Grade I - this and landing in the Roar would hopefully discourage this dive being used as server hopping meta.
Faction voyages that can be sailed to can remain unchanged.

Because the other reason for removing the WE Raid voyages is, people complaining that they didn't get the normal WE loot but the GH/OoS/MA/HC/AF one when they finished/stole one another crew dived to.

Yeah that was the rationale for removing the WE dives especially with CoF RNG but why retain any diving unless they are happy with the server hopping meta?

Perhaps unfair to solely target streamers - they are just the most publicly facing representative of the 'hunting' community - hunting content or ships depending on their disposition.

Hunters gonna hunt by diving - with the flip side of the coin being that the prey can dive off also.
We can ALL cherry pick servers.

  • Removing diving would be worse for the game than keeping it, I do agree about diving to world events. I've never had an issue with WE loot being bad/not what I wanted though. That said, some events require you to do specific world events. The Stash Seekers Stache was only given to people who completed 5 skeleton forts on that weekend. Without the ability to dive to WEs that unlock would have been nearly impossible. Skeleton forts would have been so crowded that no one would be able to do them without several other people fighting them. As it was, there were so many people diving to the event that people ended up being in the dive tunnel for like 45 minutes sometimes. I absolutely think that the world events should be subject to potential PvP, but not forced into PvP. It's a PvEvP game, so you should expect some PvP, but you should also expect that you can do PvE without PvP interrupting it from time to time. In the same way hourglass should have no PvE threats, WEs shouldn't have a huge chance of PvP threats. A guarantee of PvP will cause the significant portion of the PvE only playerbase to lose interest.
