Raids

  • Every time I write suggestions here I always feel compelled to repeat myself with previous suggestions I've made in the event that someone of some importance may read them and think "Hey, we could actually do that!" So I'm just going to briefly list some of my previous suggestions before I talk about raids.

    In no particular order:

    Console only servers

    Earrings

    Necklaces

    Bracelets

    Different ship trinkets

    Player homes

New Tall Tales to further the story

KD ratio matchmaking for PVP modes

    Saving costume sets

    New region

    New sea monsters

Easier said than done I know.

    Raids:

Going back a bit, Destiny 1... Raids. 6 players. An adventure related to the story with a series of puzzles that required 6 players to achieve. Challenging mini bosses and final bosses that required 6 players with puzzle mechanics implemented into boss fights. The closest thing we have to a raid in SOT is A Pirates Life Tall Tale with the exception being that it can all be done solo and isn't very challenging.
Before the contrary comments come flying in, I am aware that a raid in destiny could be cheesed and exploited and completed solo but this was not an "easy" thing to do. Also, a 6 player requirement for a SOT raid wouldn't be necessary and could be kept to 4 players (Gally crew) for simplicity sake.

The point is, I feel High Seas should be kept as it is, I also feel Safer Seas should be kept as it is, I think the majority of the Sea Of Thieves community feels the same but I understand the desire in the community to have more PVE content for players that want to experience a more cooperative style gameplay in SOT without the risk of losing their progress. Raids wouldn't replace High Seas or take anyone away from pursuing the rewards from playing on High Seas but it would offer players a way to play cooperatively with each other in a way that guarantees everyone gets something for participating, also, players may make new friends by participating in raids with LFG groups who may then later embark on voyages and pirating together on the High Seas.

I feel a handful of different raids in sea of thieves would help the game.
A linear adventure where players must work together as they travel through areas facing puzzles, traps, enemies and mini bosses as they go until they reach the final boss which requires players to engage in separate complimentary actions to defeat: DPS, pressure plates, capstans, switches etc.

Arguably all of the Tall Tales & the Ashen Garrisons provide some of the elements of the type of thing I'm describing but not quite. The challenge needs to be substantial enough that a raid could not be done solo with a real risk of failure and the rewards for completing a raid could not be set.

    This would provide:

    Cooperative PVE
    New areas to explore
    New monsters
    Increased challenge and difficulty

(Could have different modes for the raids too. Easy, medium, hard etc and the rewards upon completion could be proportionate to the difficulty,. encouraging players to return and try again for better rewards)

    Incentives and rewards:

RNG new rare and exotic items, rep, gold, doubloons.

I feel that a large majority of the SOT community are driven by in-game progression so only a minority will revisit things like Tall Tales for the sole enjoyment of playing them again, therein lies the problem with set rewards. A raid would benefit from RNG rewards proportionate to the challenge to encourage players to work together and keep returning to try again for something new at different difficulties.

Raid ideas that already exist: Fighting Flameheart / Fighting Ramsey / Fighting the Dark Brethren.

    That's all,

    Thanks for reading!

  • You can disable cross-play: https://support.seaofthieves.com/articles/18520849165714-Crossplay-and-player-matchmaking-preferences

  • @mrpalmerdixon

There is no in-game way to strictly lock console players using controllers out from playing with PC players in a server. This is only a preference.
The only way to disable cross play that I am aware of on x box is via the x box privacy settings and even then, If PC players are playing via the Xbox app they are considered as playing using Microsoft services and slip through the net.

  • Console only servers

There has been a setting for this for quiet awhile... does nobody check the settings?

    Earrings, Necklaces, Bracelets

Like rings, who's going to notice or see these? Too many things we wear blocks them.

    Different ship trinkets

    We got a lot.

New Tall Tales to further the story

Prefer ingame story. Like glitterbeard and smugglers. You need to find stuff, complete ingame missions and unlocks secrets. Can be done anytime.

    New region

    Sea of the Damned.

    New sea monsters

Nobody cared about the Ancient Megs

There is no in-game way to strictly lock console players using controllers out from playing with PC players in a server.

Ive never encountered a PC player in a console lobby. But since a console player can connect a K&M and still play, doesnt matter.

  • @burnbacon

Hello again buddy, yeah we have had this conversation before and I tried to explain my points before. I'll try again here. Not arguing just having a convo about a game we both clearly care about. It's all good 😊

So as far as I know, there is no in game settings to prevent console and PC players from ending up in the same server, the setting is a "preference" with no guarantees, not a hard separation or hard strict opt out. Other games offer a hard opt out from playing with PC players if you are on console, SOT doesn't and the reason given for this that I read is "to maintain server capacity" but considering the amount of people complaining about safer seas being restricted and not wanting to engage with high seas, mostly based on unbalanced PVP encounters, the server capacity is likely suffering as a result of the very system they have in place to maintain it... so really, my point is, forcing console players and pc players together to maintain server capacity behaves as the opposite of the solution they think it is and is a self perpetuating problem which could put newer players off hence the growing demand for safer seas uncapped. I honestly feel console only servers would offer a fair playing field giving players a better overall experience of high seas which would result in server capacity maintaining itself with actual player traffic rather than the exodus of players we see resorting to safer seas or playing other games. Console only servers would also completely obliterate the issue of console players encountering cheaters running cheat software on their PC. I've been playing since Beta and I'm not certain I could tell the difference between a PC player, a console player or someone using cheats 100% of the time to be totally honest but there have been times where it has been glaringly obvious. So I don't think we should say "I've never encountered a PC player" because really, how are you going to know every single time for absolute certain?

Yes, console players can use keyboard and mouse but that is not the entire sum of the advantages held by PC players, keyboard and mouse is only one of a multitude of potential advantages held by players using PC Vs Console even with keyboard and mouse. Frame rates and processing power should be taken into consideration also.

I'll move onto your other points in separate responses.

  • @burnbacon

    Okay so jewellery comsetics...

I do see what you are saying but I don't agree. I don't think it's about being able to show off what you have or being able to wear everything you have all at once right? It's about making your pirate MORE pirate! And expressing yourself via your character, no? You can't wear all of your hats all at once and I'm sure you have more than just one hat in your wardrobe that you wear in the game. Maybe you don't change your hat or occasionally decide to go hatless but trust me, other players do, so take the hat example and apply it to everything that already exists in the game in terms of cosmetics. 😂

My point is, we have an over-abundance of the same type of cosmetics already and having different types of cosmetics other than what we have already would be something else to pursue / earn / buy, especially for players that have been around for awhile who already have all the hats they like and all the sails they like etc. Adding more hats and more sails isn't doing anything for me personally and I'm not that different to other players that have been around as long as I have I don't think? I feel players that have been around for awhile have stockpiled gold because there isn't anything more they want by way of hats and sails and so on. Introducing new cosmetic types in a game that's all about wearing your success can't be a bad thing surely?

Having other cosmetic types like necklaces and earrings may not work with characters who choose to have long hair or buttoned up coats sure I agree, but at the same time not all players who have finger rings choose to wear gloves over them all of the time and not all players that have hats choose to wear them all of the time, people seem to like to change their outfits in-game once in a while (SOT would have been in serious trouble much earlier on if they didn't) so having more options for different looks including jewelry can only benefit the game considering the game is centered around obtaining cosmetics as a means of incentive / reward / wearing your success.

I don't think you make a good argument against jewellery honestly. I do understand where you are coming from as someone who clearly prefers to wear gloves instead of finger rings, someone who maybe never switches up their pirate's look but it's not a good argument for those of us that do switch it up and change things around from time to time and would welcome more options and more to chase / earn / buy.

  • @burnbacon

I actually agree about the ship trinkets... That being said, personalisation and customisation aren't bad things in a game centred around cosmetics so maybe more of a good thing isn't a bad thing? 🍻

  • @burnbacon

Glitter beard was very moving and a very special memorial in the game.

The Pirates Life and Monkey Island Tall Tales were undeniably some of the best additions Rare made to the game in terms of a PVE narrative story mode. Having Tall Tales to that quality and standard that deal specifically with SOT lore that advance the story of SOT would be awesome.

I also like finding secrets and uncovering things too but they are often easy-ish to overlook so in the interests of progressing the main story of SOT for everyone, I don't think it should be easy-ish to overlook or miss.

  • @burnbacon

    New region:

You say Sea Of The Damned but I meant a new region in the shared world. If you mean having the ability to dive to a new map that's part of the shared world of high seas and for that region to be sea of the damned, YES! I love that!

  • @burnbacon

You said nobody cared about the ancient megs... I did! I hunted them nearly into extinction and got my wild seas curse. I got hunting ancient megs solo down to a fine art. I still occasionally hunt an ancient Meg for the love of the game. 🍻

(Also because there is no other moderately challenging sea monsters to hunt sadly)

    I'm sure I'm not the only one. 🌊 🦈

  • @burnbacon

Hey, you haven't said anything contrary to my raid idea though? 🤔 Are you feeling alright?

Maybe, just maybe, there is a slight chance that on this rare occasion, you read it and didn't disagree with any of it! Wait a sec, I think you like the idea! That must be it!
    You do don't ya?

It's okay, you don't have to say you do, you haven't said anything against it so I'll take that as a silent signal of your approval!

You say it best when you say nothing at all!

    Awwwwwww, thanks mate 🍻

Truthfully, on my phone I can't seem to copy quotes and paste them into one response. Still, the end result is the same = replies

(I did use the gear wheel but this device I think prevents me from utilising the function the way you have in your responses. Frustrating!)

  • @burnbacon

In the nicest possible way and with all due respect, I've noticed you are on these forums a lot and you tend to respond to suggestions fairly regularly and... Well honestly, I don't think I've ever read you once agreeing with anyone's suggestions or ideas but I have also never read a suggestion or idea posted by you... so it looks to me like you haven't posted any of your own ideas or suggestions and you disagree with everyone elses... that makes me think that maybe you should try to be less critical of others and try to be more productive and positive! Maybe have a sit down and think of something you think Sea Of Thieves would benefit from having added to it?

Once you think of something, go and make a post and share a few suggestions, maybe they'll get added into the game? Who knows?

If you don't ask you don't get.

Don't expect anyone to like or agree with anything you say though, it's a tough crowd 😂

Admit it, you like my raid idea! A raid in the sea of the damned even? 🫨

I think you might even be warming up to the jewellery idea at this point 🤔

    Hands off my ideas!

    🖖 Live long and prosper

  • A couple of things, first there is already is console only servers. Next, I think safer seas should be removed from the game bc the no cap on gold in safer seas has not helped the regular game and has only hurt it. Also depending on how you suggest that they add the raids (weather it be in another server or just in high seas) it might be too much for this game to handle. I personally think that the game needs to get rid of xbox one support but thats a different issue.

  • @zealoustoad6067

Please explain to me where this console only servers setting is. If you mean the in-game settings it is a "preference" only setting not an option to guarantee disabling cross play. The reason is to "maintain server capacity."

I agree with you that x box one support should go at this stage or bring out a SOT current gen version and leave the legacy version as is?

I disagree about safer seas purely based on accessibility for certain people including families with children and it's good to use for tall tales uninterrupted. A luxury I never had when I did the TTs back in the day.

I think raids could be separate from high seas as a challenging cooperative PVE mode similar to the likes of what you find in D1 or D2.

  • @burnbacon

I don't mind if you don't take me seriously 😂 For what it's worth you could respond to each one separately? It doesn't make a difference. I can read and reply to each one!

  • Please explain to me where this console only servers setting is. If you mean the in-game settings it is a "preference" only setting not an option to guarantee disabling cross play. The reason is to "maintain server capacity."

A guarantee that has always been true for me. Never encountered a pc player in my lobby.
But a user with keyboard and mouse? Yeah those are a thing.

So you know of the setting. Which works.

  • @burnbacon

My goodness man, I see that is what you want to believe but it isn't true.

"Because Sea of Thieves requires full servers to function properly, the matchmaking system has a built-in "fallback" mechanism. If the game cannot find enough console and controller players to fill a server within a reasonable amount of time, it will place you into a standard crossplay lobby so you can actually play the game." - Not my words

There is no way for us to verify whether we have encountered a PC player or not without adding the player as a friend and seeing whether the PC icon is displayed next to their gamer pic or not. You cannot know for certain 100% of the time without doing this so give up your arguement, you are wrong, disabling cross play from console and PC is not possible at present EVEN through console privacy settings it is not "guaranteed."

PC advantages are NOT just Keyboard and mouse:

Higher Framerates (FPS): PCs can output refresh rates of 144Hz, 240Hz, or higher, far exceeding console caps (typically 60Hz to 120Hz). This provides a smoother visual experience, making it much easier to track moving targets and react faster in gunfights.

Lower Input Lag: PCs offer faster and more consistent response times between the hardware, the operating system, and the monitor. This translates to milliseconds of advantage during split-second decision-making.

Keyboard and Mouse Precision: A gaming mouse provides unparalleled accuracy and faster aiming capabilities compared to the analog sticks on a controller.

Field of View (FoV): PC games typically offer sliders that let players increase their Field of View. A wider FoV allows players to see more of the battlefield at once, making it harder to be flanked.Hardware and Software Optimization: PCs allow users to tweak individual graphics settings, disable motion blur, and remove filters for a cleaner, higher-visibility environment.
