Is the game as bad as it was 4 years ago or it predictably got worse?

  • Actually serious, was considering going back a few times, but every time I would recall that the game is so bug ridden that it is impossible to get 20 min without a game breaking issue unless you just go AFK (at which point you'd get kicked for AFK and will have to repeat going through the most unstable and bugged part of the game which is joining a new server if you are solo).

It always took at least 30 min to assemble a group of the people that are already on discord call and are actively trying to join as fast as they can because the game would always bug out in some way, and even then chances are traders would refuse to give some of the purchased crates or something.

And all that, after like 40-50 min of connection issues and looting/prepping, meant you'd waste it all in like 20-120 min of actually playing after encountering a griefer/hacker/10,000hours sweat because the game thinks that putting them into the same lobby with returning players is super cool.

Plus it was pretty clear that devs had no idea what to do with the game even back then, with the most recent topics here being the proof of that.

So yeah, is there any point in going back now?

  • Custom servers are launching soon.

One and Series S&X player. Never had the "unplayable" problems 🤷🏽‍♀️

  • Yeah the server stability is a lot better.

Assembling a crew is what it is. That’s not Rares fault.

Just objectively speaking it doesn’t seem like you want it to they better. If you’re just venting then I won’t stop you. But yes the game is better now

That all depends on the player, asking others will come from different points of views.

    Never heard of this.

Seems you have no desire to come play and just want to start a rant here.

Only you can answer that question. For the record, the system doesn't want to keep you underwater for hours looking for a match against someone around your skill level, so it matches you with another crew that fits your criteria, crew size.

Hit reg will always be a thing we'll have to live with, bugs and glitches are a fact of life, cheaters are on every game so it is what it is. There's some bad, there's some good. It's up to you to decide for yourself if it's worth it or not.

  • Despite all the hemming and hawing of the community, the game is objectively better than it was 4 years ago. There are fewer game-breaking bugs, there are much better quality-of-life improvements, and the sandbox has more tools:

    • cannon rowboats
    • keg rowboats
    • harpoon gun
    • throwing knives
    • blowdarts
    • double barrel pistol
    • sneaking
    • disguises
    • loot burying and maps
    • traps
    • horn of fair winds
    • skull of sorrow
    • ashen winds skull
    • cannon of rage (place a cannon almost anywhere!)

The devs just need to work on making an environment that encourages smarter use of these tools. Right now some of them just have limited scenarios where they are used etc, and players seem to prefer vanilla naval combat a lot of the time. I have made an effort to use all of them and I think they're great.

A lot of the 'headline' content never makes it past a season or two in terms of engagement, some failures are:

    • Skull of Siren Song (nobody does these, I liked them a lot though)
    • Quest Board
    • Whatever last season was? I can't even remember what they're called.
    • Smugglers Routes (subjective: I liked it, others didn't)
    • Burning Blade (subjective: I still see it used very rarely, I think captaining the ship is super boring and the pressure mainly lies on the crew of the burning blade to stay afloat while PvE-ing and return to flameheart. Aggressors have almost nothing to lose.
    • Literally all of those 3rd party tall tales.
    • Siren Shrines & Treasuries (subjective)
  • damn, I actually got baited into downloading, and then, at 82%, recalled that the game is using the most dog...water... anticheat of all, and cancelled download
siiiigh, I guess it's time to stop reflexing and just forget about the game
really liked the visuals though V_V
    thx for the replies <3
