PvP has become repetitive, with the only real reward being loot that just turns into more meaningless coin. On top of that, the skill gap between casual players and veterans is massive, making it hard for newer or more relaxed players to enjoy.
Safer Seas isn’t much better, it’s too limited and restrictive to stay engaging for long. Tall Tales feel like they’ve completely dried up, and it’s hard to imagine we’ll see meaningful new ones anytime soon. The map itself hasn’t evolved in any significant way, and it likely never will.
At this point, the game is eight years old. The player base is shrinking, the engine is aging, and it’s starting to show. If there isn’t a true sequel being developed behind the scenes for the next Xbox launch, then by November, Sea of Thieves may finally run out of wind, and without a follow up, it risks fading away for good.
