  • With the release of Windrose, we are seeing a LOT of talk of being better than Sea of Thieves. Whether you agree with Windrose being better than SOT or not, but it is definitely certain that SOT has competition.

    GTA VI is also coming out, which would be another major blow to the game. Rare needs to start deciding soon (as in Season 20) to find ways to actually function as a company and develop actual content or else they will certainty be destroyed by the competition. Here is my plan

    Complete Season Overhaul. We remove the season structure entirely. No plunder pass, no renown, no Fortnite clone, we remove the seasonal pass altogether. Those free pass cosmetics head straight to the outpost, and the plunder pass cosmetics head straight to the emporium. We then install a new type of progression similar to adventures back in the day where we complete a series of events to progress the lore and earn loot, gold, ancient coins, doubloons, whatever of that sort if we complete it fully.

    This not only helps SOT stand out, but also advances the lore and rewards players handsomely when participating in the lore. The lore/story-building is what helps SOT stand out against the other games of its nature.

    So may games come out that are suppose to be or said to be”killers” for another game. But they never are.

    At this moment windrose is just an Ark update with pirates. If you played enough of Ark, you see similar stuff and find nothing new.

  • Windrose isn’t even on console and last time SoT publicly stated their platform usage was before PS5 was added and console players made up just over 50% of the player base. At least Skull and Bones was on both PC and console, but it was such a different game too so didn’t take away from SoT in the long run.

  • The only thing that connects both games together is pirates… I think Rare’ll be fine and celebrate the release as they always will for new games, then we let the players decide if it has sea legs or drown like Skull and Bones.

    RETURN OF PENDRAGON
    WIDOW POSSESSING WANDA
    BIG FINAL WAR
    And that's it. At this point I just want content that supports lore progression. I neeed an end of the story.

  • No game is safe from GTA6. People have been waiting almost 14 years for it, it's one of the most expensive, grandest scale games ever produced. Nothing ANY game can do will stop their player numbers from going down the day GTA6 drops. I don't even own a console that will be able to play GTA6 and I'm considering buying one solely to play GTA6 since it likely will not be released on PC at launch.

    As for your progress bar idea, I don't dislike it but I don't think it really works, since that requires Rare to care about the lore of the game, and they straight up don't. They retcon, they hide lore, they don't add extremely important lore (Cap'n), and they even deleted the lore discussion channel from the official discord.
