The Tsunami Revolution: Surf-Physics, Deep-Dives, and Wave-Scavenging

  • Sea of Thieves needs more unpredictability and "high-skill movement. Instead of another static fort, let's use the game's amazing water physics for a dynamic world event: The Tsunami. It's not a disaster-it's a tactical tool.

    1. Voyage Safety & Integration
      • The Warning: Before the wave hits, the tide recedes significantly from islands (exposing reefs and wrecks).
      • No Mission Reset: The Tsunami does NOT cancel or interrupt your active voyages. It is an environmental layer that you can choose to use or ignore.
      • Secure Loot: Players can "bury deep" their current loot on islands with a new interaction, so it doesn't wash away while they handle the wave.
    2. The Speed Meta: Ship & Personal Surfing
      • Ship Surfing: Align your ship's hull to the crest of the wave for a 3x Speed Boost.
      • Surf-Boards (New Item): Findable planks that allow individual pirates to surf the wave.
      • Wave-Looting: Rare "Deep Sea Relics" float within the water wall. While surfing (on a board or ship), you can snatch and secure up to 3 items directly onto your board/railing. High-speed scavenging!
    3. Tactical Choice: The Deep Dive
      • The Plunge: If you want to stay in position, you can keep full sails and "pierce" through the base of the wave.
      • Stealth: Your ship briefly submerges, making you completely invisible to crews surfing above. It's the perfect way to ambush surfers or escape a chase by disappearing under the water wall.

  • Sea of Thieves needs more unpredictability and "high-skill movement.

Use too then they start nerfing it because players cant learn new things or adapt.

  • @burnbacon That’s not really why things get nerfed in Sea of Thieves.
It’s not about players being unable to adapt features get adjusted when they’re unfair or lack counterplay. That’s a design issue, not a skill issue.
Your argument mixes those two up.

  • I think this could honestly be a good summer update. This is just a rough core idea details can definitely be adjusted. The main point is the concept of turning a tsunami into a high-skill, optional world event.

  • I would love that !

  • It be a high “skill” world event for first month of release. Players will flock to SM to complain how they can’t complete it or certain aspects are difficult for the casual players. And they will nerf it to the ground so even a newbie first day can do it solo.

Always welcome new challenges but skill difficult isn’t good thing to use when players in the game flat out anything that takes a little bit of it.
