Why are gold earnings still nerfed since Season 11?

  • Hi,

Ever since season 11 when the amount of loot you were getting was significantly reduced, the amount of gold we were earning was slightly increased / piece of loot, but in total the amount we were earning was reduced since the amount of pieces of loot we were getting was significantly less.
And ever since then, it has never been increased again. The gold we were earning was already on the low side before that, and to be honest anything but Fort of the damned doesn't seem worth it for the amount of time you need to put in and the lackluster amount of gold. Back in the day the lost shipment voyages from Merchants were fun and made a decent amount of gold, but ever since then there is no single voyage of merchants anymore that makes a decent amount of gold vs time spent on it, making everything seem not worth it, and pushing someone to do either fort of the damned, or maybe burning blade or skelly fleet.. In my opinion loot value needs a significant increase across the board.. Make the smaller voyages worth doing again.. Because right now, they are not. Nobody wants to spend 2hours of playing for 5-10 pieces of loot (20k - 50k gold). I know alot of people wanna be able to make at least some gold without having to search for pvp all the time to do so. Right now, any time i log on, the first thing i do is check for pvp and see if i can sink someone that has done already the biggest part of the work and looting, since anything else just takes way too long for the lackluster amount of earnings. :)

    Greetings, Hal.

  • @haltzo5045 I agree and disagree with this post. Here’s my thoughts:

    Agree

Rapid and in my eyes, nearly absurd gold inflation has caused many trading company voyages to become obsolete in terms of making money. While I don’t think these should be the best moneymaking methods in the game as they do give more reputation for the companies than most other activities do, I do agree that they need to be adjusted along with other gold earning methods to narrow the Grand Canyon sized gap between high risk high reward voyages and easier voyages like simple skeleton bounties and chest digs.

    Disagree

PvP and PvE are both necessary parts of the game, and stealing the work from another player will ALWAYS be faster than doing it yourself, as it should be. Fort of the Damned should remain one of the best consistent gold grinds due to the fact that it is a Player Activated World Event (aka, raid event, not to be confused with raid voyages). This guarantees a player is almost always going to be there and ensures a fight over solid loot whenever that skull shoots up into the sky. If anything, I think there should be more incentive for players to stop avoiding conflict entirely and start taking up sneaky or bold Pirating activities to look for steals.

  • So I don’t agree that the voyages are less profitable.
What’s more, you say there are fewer treasures, but it’s actually the complete opposite.
Not to mention that the time-to-gold ratio has been improved, and I’m only taking the Gold Collector’s trips. In under 5 minutes, from the moment you vote for a trip, dive, arrive on the island and start digging... You earn between 2,000 and 3,000 coins from just two chests.
Not to mention that on most islands you can find various things:

    • A captain to kill: Over 5,000 coins from selling his skull
    • A mermaid statue: between 1,000 and 6,000 coins (depending on the number and type of gems it drops)
    • A crate of fireworks, cannonballs, etc.: Around 1,500 coins.

So if you’re lucky, you can earn between 2,000 and 12,500 just from a single trip to an island.
And I’m not even mentioning the smugglers’ treasures you can also find... And sometimes you can find wild boars too...

To say there are fewer treasures is misleading, because whilst the journey itself isn’t particularly lucrative on the map, you’d still have to factor in the time spent per trip, but the islands are teeming with treasures.

In fact, I’d say quite the opposite: since Season 11, there’s been a balancing issue because they’ve added loads of new types of treasure that are worth much more than before.

Is this still true or have the other events pushed this out?

  • @xdreegan I think it's one of the best consistent gold grinds specifically, as you always know what loot you'll be getting. It can also be activated whenever you want, as many times as you prepare for it. The other events are definitely more valuable, with the downside of being a gamble on which world event you get.
