QoF: Smoother seas setting

  • PROBLEM:

    1. The game is starts to be unplayable for PvP and even PvE with a ping 300+.

    2. My crew spans the EU, All of North America , Oz/NZ, and Egypt . This means someone will have bad ping, there is no helping that. Sure I can stop playing with people outside my local servers, but these are my friends, its a social game and how we keep in touch.

    3. It is better for all of us to have a ping between 130 to 200, than some having 50-100 and the rest 250 to 350. Depending on the combo sailing we want to be on differnent servers to give the lowest average ping. The person who should start the ship to get this maybe joining a in 20mins time, meaning we have to wait. OR the server we should be on, is between the crew, we do not have someone there to start the ship. We also have people drop out and come in at different times as the night moves on. Should not have to start a new ship and re supply each time.

    SUGGESTIONS:

    A: Manual Server Selection.

When joining or diving the crew can manually vote for the server/region they want to start or dive to. Currently hackers can already do this, which causes stream sniping issues so its not my first choice. Instead I prefer option B.

    B: SMOOTHER SEAS.

In crew management, have a these options.
    SMOOTHER SEAS: ON/OFF
    SMOOTHER SEAS PING CAP: 150

If all crew have SMOOTHER SEAS: ON, the each time you dive, the server looks at the location of all crew members and picks the region/server that gives the lowest average ping, providing it does violate the ping cap of any player. This can be set from 100 to 350 in 50 ping intervals. Result a better crew experiance rather than a personal one, and its opt in so if you don`t like it is does not happen.

  • @miserenz this is a bit of a difficult solution considering the game already tries to put you in a local server. Though this won’t solve the issue, having the person in the most central area between your crew start the ship will almost always result in the ship starting on their home servers.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an issue with you, your wifi, or even the game itself. The SoT server provider is Microsoft Azure, which isn’t a dedicated server provider sadly. In addition, Azure is often infamous for being unreliable. Even in my home servers where I’m lucky to get at best 40 ping but an average of 60, any major event or loot pile spawning instantly TANKS the servers
