OK, so in an effort to give gold a purpose, here's an idea that is sparked from other extraction games where you are able to either equip yourself to the gills, go in with a base kit, or somewhere in between. Obviously, there would be plenty of folks that choose to stock up the normal way, so I wouldn't want to change the current in-game supply setup. This would just allow for people to stock up how they want and get into the action even faster if they choose to.
So, with that, my suggestion is to allow for buyable supplies from the main menu that would be either loaded into your ship barrels when you log in (inventory supplies), or be made available to accept from the shipwright (carry-able items). Below is a breakdown on suggested costs for each item. Obviously up for debate, but I feel these are a good starting point for discussion
Cannonballs (x50) - 5,000 Gold (limit 10)
Scattershot (x1) - 250 Gold (limit 10)
Blunderbomb (x1) - 500 Gold (limit 10)
Firebomb (x1) - 350 Gold (limit 10)
