If you are reading this, you are likely at the part of the tall tale where you have the Q-tip key and have brought it to Guybrush, but he is not opening the gate. This is a common issue that many have experienced, including me. I discovered (I'm pretty sure) a way to fix this.
If you do not have the grapple gun equipped, go get it from the armory crate. Place the Q-tip in front of the gate, a few paces away. Now, shoot either the monkey head or the ground on the other side of the gate (I don't remember which). Now grab the Q-tip with the grapple gun. Guybrush is not here to guide you, so the next step is to go to the port side of the monkey head (Right side when facing the head) and insert the Q-tip into the ear (Don't try this at home!). Keep obeying the prompts until the monkey head opens. Guybrush will walk THROUGH THE GATE and the tall tale can be completed as normal.
