I recently had an idea that could strengthen the bond between players and the game, while also highlighting art within Sea of Thieves.
The concept would be a new creation contest, similar to #BeMorePirate, #SoTShot, or #StyleOfThieves.
The goal would be to create a new in-game cosmetic, in any format: 2D, 3D, painting, sewing, or sculpting. All artistic mediums would be accepted, as long as the creation represents an original Sea of Thieves cosmetic.
Participants could take inspiration from existing cosmetics, but the design would need to remain original and not belong to an already existing set.
After a limited period (1 to 2 months), winners would be selected using the hashtag #ArtistOfTheSea, and the winning designs would be added to the game as part of a new set called “Exotic Creation”.
There would only be one unique cosmetic per category (for example, only one Exotic Creation grappling hook), allowing for approximately 30 winners, enough to form a complete fan-art–inspired set.
The contest would be divided into five phases, each separated by two months:
Weapons: 8 winners
Tools: 13 winners
Ships: 9 winners
Clothing: 11 winners
Accessories: 10 winners
Each winner would receive a gift emote, allowing them to give their own cosmetic—and only their cosmetic—to players they encounter in-game.
This would create a new type of collectible cosmetic that could only be obtained through social interaction and meeting other pirates on the seas. These cosmetics would be extremely rare, as it would be uncommon to encounter a specific player carrying a specific design.
In summary, this contest would introduce a new set that showcases the importance of community artists, while also encouraging unforgettable and meaningful encounters between players.
