Decrease Skeleton Ship Spawns

  • I have been getting mobbed by skeleton ships whenever I enter The Shores of Plenty corner of the map. In my last session I had to fight six sloops and galleons in the span of thirty minutes. It’d be one thing if they were just the assassin’s that spawn when you get too much loot but they were all naturally spawned. They aren’t hard to deal with at all but six back to back to back was just too much and so freaking annoying. PLEASE decrease the spawn rates, it’s killing me

  • When season 17 ends in a few weeks they will go back to normal most likely, with some increased smuggler skeleton ship spawns along the golden smugglers route.

  • last session I had to fight six sloops and galleons in the span of thirty minutes

Sounds like the fleet plus random skeleton ship.

Sometimes I have no issues, and sometimes I really believe that a server bugs out. I tested this in Safer Seas. Especially around the Crescent Isle, cuz that's where I randomly had issues like this before as well.

In one session, I spent around half an hour on the island, not a single ship spawned. In the second session, I had back to back ships spawning. In both of these sessions, I had a decent amount of loot on board, so we can rule that out.

So when I grab the loot where the first ship sank and return to the isle, just 5-6 minutes after that another ship comes to attack. Basically, I got no break in that session. I sank around 8-9 ships (and not just skele sloops, galleys as well). And in one occasion, a skeleton galley spawned right in front of my eyes, just 100-200 meters away from the island, and immediately aggroed. It didn't dive up - it INSTA SPAWNED. Just appeared and kept sailing right towards my parked ship.

And no - it was not a fleet event, during the entire time.

I'm fairly certain that ships would've spawned infinitely. It only stopped once I moved away from the island (while moving away, I actually saw another skele ship going towards the island, but I escaped in time).

And after that, when I got back to the Crescent Isle again, everything was fine. Spent half an hour again - nothing.

TL:DR - I'm almost certain that a server is glitching out in that moment, and indicates that it gets stuck in some sort of loop. The only way to break the loop, is to get away from that part of the map, and come back later.

You basically need to not interrupt the loop next time (or should we say "skeleton ship route" towards a specific destination), when it bugs out. But yea, Rare needs to fix this. There is no way this is normal intended behaviour. It can be easily exploited for gold, and it needs to get fixed asap.

EDIT: I just submitted a detailed bug report. And I kindly recommend doing the same. Not just you, but everyone who keeps experiencing this.

  • @r3vanns Glad to know I’m not the only one experiencing this. As a solo player it’s nigh impossible to keep fending off back to back ships. I legit just got mobbed by a skeleton sloop and galleon combo at the same time. Like I can’t repair my ship which is now fully holed up and man cannons. The insta-aggro is just so freaking annoying as well

  • One of those "Need proof" to fully confirm since, you just explained what happens when you go into a Fleet battle as a solo.

But, even if this an issue for some. It not for others. I much prefer..Skeleton ships attacking me than random players. Much more enjoyable.

Nothing to do with the fleet Bacon. OP also mentioned 6 ships, and you don't attack that many ships as a solo in the fleet event. I could almost swear I never even had more than 3 max.

I know it's 1-2 ships per wave, but I yet have to experience 6 ships as a solo slooper doing the fleet since I started playing this game. 5 is max, since the 3rd wave ship is the final galleon.

Also, you can't miss the event lol. You can't be confused, since it's obvious when you initiate it, both with music and a banner. Unless OP is absolutely blind and/or deaf (which I seriously doubt), there is no way they were dealing with the fleet.

I also don't mind skeleton ships themselves. What I do mind is infinite gold farm that needs to be patched.

  • It saddens me that in the podcast they admitted to knowing people haven't been happy with the skeleton ship changes..... Yet they haven't done ANYTHING to them.... And now next season is delayed so a whole extra month of these nonsensical skeleton ships. Also since the smugglers theme is going to be a new thing... Which is awful content by the way as they aren't a trade company with an emissary and no emissary boosts the rewards and there's no dopamine bar associated with them it all feels meh. The whole reason pirate profiles exist is because people like seeing those rep bars go up. The increase of levels helped a bit but now we can start all over without loser our original pirates progress!!! Though I would never do this cause that's nonsensical but yea.

Many companies just accept this expansion or this update is what it is. There will be no course corrections if we make a mistake. The players will have to suffer with it till the next update and HOPE we don't forget to change things. That's how Blizzard always did things anyway. And seen Rare do it MANY times as well.

Like rowboats. Having keg rowboats back is cool... Couldn't we have made it like a 50% chance when a rowboat spawns it's a keg one? Why 100%? The bad bit is the skeleton ship respawn rate on the trade routes so if that's where you are playing you're screwed. You have the 10-15 minute respawn timer for a skeleton ship to spawn on your ship but then you also have the skeleton ships fast respawn on the trade route itself. Then there is the bug spawning emergent skeleton galleons when you're on a sloop. Then the aggro range of skeleton ships being like 1/4 of the map away. Basically if you can see them, they can see you. They come at you like a player now. Which some people might find cool. But if you're on a server full of sloops and you have skeleton galleons going at them like a bat out of hell.... Thankfully they all have the big kegs so just go blow up the kegs. This update would be great for those who still needed skeleton ship sinks for commendations but I finished that years ago so now it's just a tedious speed bump in my gameplay. Slowing me down from trying to achieve what I wanted to in a given play session.

  • @burnbacon Based off a lot of your replies you spend more time on the forum than playing these days. Which honestly I think is most of us who've been around since the game launched. But if you want this proof yourself you can go on safer seas and go sit at Keel Haul fort for an hour or so and log the amount of ships you have to deal with. The smuggler route respawn rate + the frequency of emergent ships spawning on us is insane. Like sure it shouldn't take 30-60 minutes to clear a fort. But I was multi-tasking. Clearing a wave between incoming jobs (I do data entry from home) 1 fort and I had to fight off 1 ship on the way to the fort in the 1st place. Then I had to sink at least 6 in the time I was clearing the fort and being solo getting the loot out of the vault. Then after leaving the fort fight off another ship. And the aggro range... Seeing a ship over 8 tiles away and it's pointing right at you.... Yup it's aggroed the music just doesn't play till it's closer. But it has your scent and it's coming.

The worst part is after commendations are complete I don't think anyone cares about this smugglers loot. The guild rep on some of it, especially the act2 painting was good. But not worth the effort when you can just join a max level guild to complete your commendations. This games guild system is the most anti social I have seen. Without the ability to sail together, even safer fleets wont allow guild ships, and the low player cap meaning you can't have inactive leechers in your guild if you're trying to level up. They need to stop releasing content or changing how things work in the game then not giving it another thought for months if not years.

Edit: The 30 minutes MAY be an slight exaggeration by OP but I haven't nor desire to time the respawn of smuggle route ships, it's pretty fast though. So if we assume skeleton ship on the way to island, skeleton ship after leaving the island that's 2, so 4 smuggler route ship spawns while at the island? I imagine there would be a 10 minute cool down at least. But let's also count on the possibility of the free roaming skeleton ships that could come near as well and with the increased aggro radius. So 6 in 30 minutes seems plausible. It's a guaranteed 2 emergent in that time with this update. It's definitely chaos in the shores of plenty for sure. I started ignoring the fort spawns if they were up there.

I'm sure people who are not by-passing levelling up their Guild appreciate the extra reputation they get from turning in Smuggler items.
