Better safer seas for non PvP players

  • I would like to suggest a few changes to Safer Seas that I believe could improve the experience for many players that dont enjoy PvP but still want rewards:

allow the use of Emissary Flags in Safer Seas (possibly with reduced rewards)

increase PvE elements to compensate for the lack of PvP (e.g., more Skeleton Ships, higher chance of Kraken encounters, more Megalodons, more storms)

Commendations wouldn’t need to be active in Safer Seas if it would affect balance

I believe these adjustments would be appreciated by many players who want to enjoy a calm evening with friends, make progress, increase reputation with fractions, and still feel rewarded without constant griefing or stress.

The point of emissaries is a target on your back and getting a bonus for having it. Since there are no enemy players in SS, there is no target on your back. Hence, you don't need emissaries, nor should you get access to that bonus.

increase PvE elements to compensate for the lack of PvP (e.g., more Skeleton Ships, higher chance of Kraken encounters, more Megalodons, more storms)

People are already crying about getting ganked every 10-15min by skeleton ships and megs since S17. There is no need to increase their spawning rate at all. There's more than enough activities and dangers for new players in SS. After all, SS is an extended tutorial, not a PvE server.

I believe these adjustments would be appreciated by many players who want to enjoy a calm evening with friends

Well, nothing is stopping them to enjoy it now as well.

make progress, increase reputation with fractions, and still feel rewarded without constant griefing or stress.

Spawncamping and cheating could be considered griefing. Everything else is fair game. And if non-griefing interactions are stressing you out, time to search for a game that doesn't. Or keep playing in SS as it is.

  • I mean the PvE elements right now are insane in terms of skeleton ship spawns. To an annoying degree. The storm is a fixed thing. It's in the same place, moving in the same direction on every server. Kraken is less common now that it's not a world event. Which is ironic because you would think it being outside of the rotation would make it more frequent.

But I agree safer seas needs to be better. The worry everyone has that it would kill high seas is unwarranted. If Rare was SMART about it then they would just boost higher seas to make it a high risk, high reward play mode to warrant the extra stress. There's a lot of players who only play on gold & glory weekends because it's more efficient. So if we make high seas always gold & glory.... problem solved.

There's literally no reason to gate keep reputation behind high seas. It's not some bad of honor just an indication of how much time you've played... Or if you want we could call it how little of a social life the player has? IE I have 0 social life.

Captaincy is a MUST on safer seas. We worked hard for our ships. Not being able to use them where ever we want is madness. Rare has always said this game is "Play how you want, when you want" Yet that only applies to playing on high seas. You can't make a blanket statement of freedom of choice in how you play but then add all these exceptions to that rule.

The concept that they think people would be willing to pay $15 a month to play as a fleet on safer seas but still not be able to level up? Pure insanity. There is stuff I would have without question farmed on safer seas even at the 30% progression it used to have. I was fine with the lower income. Safer seas should not be a gold farm cause gold is useless.

The argument that this is a pirate game PvP is mandatory blah blah.... Yea you know what else is mandatory when it comes to piracy? People stealing your game and playing it for free, People using every cheat they can find to give them an advantage. Yet I think we can all agree those things are bad. They made too good of a PvE game to have nothing but forced PvP as your only path of progression.

  • The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.
