Bone Tone Compatibility for Obsidian Captains Hat?

I noticed in one of the portrait's you get for ship customization "Fire and Ash" it portrays a player wearing an obsidian captains hat with a gold skelly curse while also having his full skull stay golden, this made me think on why the obsidian captains hat you get at lv 310 for the skelly curse just doesn't get rid of the skull part entirely and just be a hat and eyepatch.
I mean everything that makes the obsidian skull 'unique' to begin with is covered by said hat and eyepatch so why not just remove the skull portion so players can wear the hat with other bone tones instead of limiting the cosmetic to one bone tone group?
If this is possible I think it would be a net positive for the Skelly curse player base as the obsidians captains hat is arguably one of thee best headpieces for the skelly curse in the game right now and to have its customization potential limited to only obsidian bones or Seared obsidian bones is a bit of a let down.
Plus players can still achieve the glowing eye mark just if they have the seared obsidian bones tone
