Improve Hourglas to make it less a coinflip

  • Dear Rare,

back when hourglas releases I was a big fan of it. Unfortunately it appears that there are some bugs to be fixed and hacker to be banned. Another big Problem I encountered are some spawnpoints.
For example spawnpoints straight in front of a Rock so you lost the game before it even startet.
Another unpleasant experience is the bone-caller. In my opinion it ruins hourglas because it allows players to get a free board and put u in a loosing position. To the fact that these are Random items that only can be found by luck, they should be disabled in hourglas to get an more faire PVP experience.

Turn the wheel. Raise your sails! Basic ship control

Speaking about bone callers. You might as well add all curse balls, chain shots, firebombs and blunderbombs. Because those fall under you complaint.

But you are asking to make hourglass have set rules. Hourglass isn’t a mode with rules to follow. You battle PvP as intended and battle as if you would without hourglass helping hand.

Bone skeleton spawns are easy to deal with. Sword and fire easy. Or even blowpipe to blow them up (or lure) a tool nobody really uses well.

  • "Allows players to get a free board" I disagree. It allows players to use another tool to help break their opponents defense. If I stand at the top of my ladder with my sword, you can't do anything to me. You can't board. Forever. You want it to just become a boring stalemate? You wanna bob up and down the ladder like a gopher while I swing my blade like a lawnmower? Also, it doesn't necessarily force a board, if you wait for the skeletons to come to you, you can attack them and the boarder at the same time. I've successfully defended against bonecallers many times with well placed blunderbombs and sword swipes. You know, next players are going to say we shouldn't have firebombs because they also can provide an unfair advantage and allow you to "force a board". Fire spreads and eventually does boat damage, so does that mean if you are ladder guarding with a sword, and your opponent has put one fire bomb on your boat, you are forced to deal with it and have to allow him to board?

  • You don't have to listen to the comments above, they don't know what they are talking about lol

  • @rambobrad

Do explain. How would you solve the following:

    1. How would you fix the bugs that OP didnt mention
    2. Remove "Hackers" which is the wrong definition.
    3. Random spawnpoints that seems to only happen when other HG player uses the "Defend" option and sets up placement.
    4. Fix bonecaller which spawns skeletons that die on impact and act like actual skeletons. and are "found by luck" just like Curseballs as well.

I'm curious to hear/read your actual feedback on the matter of helping this Solo Slooper solve the problems they seem to have.
Instead of this, whatever comment you have.
Nobody else seems to have have answers but they sure love to type random text and discourage actual feedback from Solo Sloopers who know the how's and ways.

  • @burnbacon

    1. Depends on the bug? No names on the enemy boat when surfacing has been a bug for like 2 years now. And how did surfacing into ancient megalodons even make it to live servers?
    2. Perma ban the people paying the cheaters for boosts.
    3. No, the devils roar rock spawn and royal crest fortress spawn has been in hourglass since the start. Almost 3 years to adjust the boundaries a tiny bit and it hasn't happened yet.
    4. Bonecallers are not fun to use or be used against, shouldn't have been added in the first place.

    Other comments:
Remove matchmaking from hourglass, it makes everyone assume you we be in an equal environment causing confusion to players expecting and equal match.
OR make it into a more structured mode. Why try and match make crews with equal skill if 1 could have been farming wraith balls all day? Doesn't make sense to me, they should pick one or the other.

As for anti bonecaller advice. When I throw a bonecaller to board. I can hear exactly where the enemy player is on the boat due to skellie agro/weapon usage etc.
If they shoot a skellie I can tell they have to reload that gun, if I hear a skellie get a 3 hit combo I know they are 1 shot to my EoR.
I get a lot of free information for just throwing one at literally anywhere on the boat. No skill involved, just some skeletons playing the game for me.

  • @potatosord I can ladder tap you...

  • @itzeggward You can't if I stand off to the side. You get off the ladder facing directly forwards, I'm not standing directly where you face. 95% of the time anyone tries to ladder tap me they either miss or weak blunder and get 18 damage on me at most before we go back to the stalemate.

  • @potatosord I think as long as you don't hug the wall i can hit you

  • @itzeggward You just said you could do something and then told me a way you can't, which happens to be the way I ladder guard.

I watched you sink to MrGreenz of all people in solos the other night, because he used a bonecaller and got a free board on you. Lol.

MrGreenz isn't a terrible player but if you're losing to him in solos, you should probably stop chiming in on what's effective in PvP.

  • @worst-tdmer Yeah? The one where I raised sail at the match start and did nothing until after he attacked me because I was trying to see if he would dice roll, at 5am? I still don't agree with your point that it gives a free board, the only time a bone caller has any value in hourglass is when you are already basically going to win, and in the match you saw I wasn't even really trying. Again, that match started with me sitting, because I was tired of playing for the night and wanted to see if they would dice roll. They got better pressure first, not a difficult concept to understand if you actually play hourglass.

  • @potatosord

Your "tried and true" bonecaller defense:

Second fight where you navaled, boarded, and still lost:

  • @worst-tdmer Again, these were matches I had at 5am, while not caring enough to actually try. I went for a dice roll, and he didn't want to. He had a lot of advantage because of it. If you think that a match that I basically gave to him while watching YT on the side at 5am is representative of my actual ability, you haven't actually seen me play, and from what you're saying, that seems like the only time you have ever seen me.

  • @lucky1m some of the spawns suck, you dont have to take the fight though you could just fully turn out and choose to engage in a different area. There's only one spawn I can think of where you are ridiculously close to a rock. Ones like the devil's roar spawn you could just sail past slightly before doing the usual turn and raise etc, volcanoes are more an issue for me here although I would happily remove that from the spawn pool.

Bonecallers I disagree, people taking the time to get resources shouldn't be punished, its not that often that it is the biggest factor, and even then it'll likely only be one win they get using it. Curse balls are the same, they dont feel great but they have to be used appropriately or can still be countered. For bonecaller (assuming your mast isn't down and on sloop) try standing on your canopy behind anchor and just use blunderbombs to knock them off ladder before you deal with the skellies. You mention only found by luck, shipwrecks have decent spawn rates, burning blade has them everytime (at least 8 i dont recall exactly number)
To clarify I wouldn't mind everyone having same supplies like arena of old, but whilst that isn't the case then specific items shouldn't be restricted.

  • @worst-tdmer

Dang, anyone who still does the bucket during a fight is just sad player being toxic.
