Yesterday I posted about new players having a hard time in this game and it turned into a pvp vs pve fight. I just want to say it’s not all black and white I like trying pvp while I’m playing I suck at it but I’m sure it comes with time. At the same time there is a difference between having a battle and getting completely slaughtered. What I was suggesting is maybe not putting players with five wins(me which 3 of are because the other person quit) in the same server as someone who has 300 wins. Most games do this and if rare doesn’t agree that’s fine it’s their game. They are the ones that suggested I post on here. I’m sure I’m not the only person to think this might be better. I’d rather wait five minutes to get into a server than get in one where my ship gets sunk in the first five minutes of the game. So please don’t turn this into something it doesn’t have to be. This is just one rookie pirates opinion.
Being able to play the game rebuttal
If you're talking about hourglass, it's up to whoever happens to be queued at the same time you are. If there's no one fitting your parameters, they're going to match you with the first available player/crew. If this means a double-gold curse, so be it.
The server you spawn on is region-based, not sbmm based. On top of that, players will be diving in to and out of your server all the time looking for whatever. Then add the fact that crews are composed of players with all types of experiences, and you ask Rare to do the impossible.
I understand you're new. We all were at some point, but we made the best of it (even though we sunk many times), learned, gained experience and got better. The same will happen to you if you give it time.
P.S. It's been my experience that it's extremely beneficial to out-wit, out-smart, and out-play others who try and sink me. Think outside of the box. Don't concentrate on what you don't have, but what you do instead. Many times I've used my opponent's mistakes and weaknesses to my advantage while they had no clue.

I’m not against the idea of skill based servers at all, but to echo what Europa said, I don’t know how they’d do it, or at least I don’t know how they’d do it well. I think games with paid subscriptions might have an easier time implementing something like this because accounts are more meaningful in that opening many of them isn’t as simple as having another email, or whatever is required for sea of thieves on its various platforms.
I also think it would take away from the spirit of the game a bit. I enjoy encountering players of all types and ages. For example when my crew runs into kids we’ll almost never mess with them… unless they’re a special kind of kind who has a lot of gamer words, you know the type. Similarly, allying with new people circumstantially can be fun.
Lastly, I’d wonder if there are enough of every skill level to make a separation feasible.
Completely reasonable argument just thought it might help people like me who aren’t amazing gamers to get on a skill level to play more enjoyably and be able to play against people more in their skill level I’m not a kid but I’m probably closer to their level than you. And a lot of people are not as forgiving as you and so nobody has an issue I’m not saying everybody. But their are definitely some players who just want to dunk on you hard if you suck

Even the best players sink in this game sometimes. Just have to play to your abilities, ease yourself into the big game loot, be cautious and invisible as possible!
Also, I don’t know if anyone mentioned it, but there’s an official sea of thieves discord which is very active. There are always players looking for groups in there of all skill levels. Typically they’ll set up a voice within the discord, say what they’re looking to do and who with, and link the voice for joining. There are sometimes players on there offering to help new players. In any case, as a new player, having access to someone more experienced than you is beneficial in any game.

Keep in mind, it's not always brute-force PvP against another ship that gives you the win. There are many ways of sinking your opponent if you can think of creative ways to do so. For example, several years ago, we had a brig chasing us when I spotted flotsam. I drove them into the 2 kegs there, and it was game over for them. We never fired a single shot. If you're able to think outside the box to outsmart your opponent, it can be rather enjoyable watching them sink to their own mistakes lol. You're amazing in your own right. Don't give up, practice by doing, always be vigilant and see what's around you, and don't get frustrated. We were all new at one point- never forget that.
What your suggestion won’t work anyways.
If it’s straight up server players (not hourglass fights). You’re looking at players who won fights because they found a ship near an island, sink it and that counted as a win. Or they blow up a ship with a keg, in a rowboat while the other ship was doing a fort.
Not all fights happen ship vs ship and some people can go months without combat…but are seeking them.@capt-greldik The issue I see with implementing skill based servers is that outside of hourglass, a lot of the stats that you would track to set someones SBMM are things the game doesn't track, at least not publicly. It doesn't track k/d, or even the number of players you've killed. It doesn't track the number of ships you've sunk (outside of hourglass). The only SBMM this game really has is in HG, and most players aren't.
