Make emotes useful in gameplay and not just fun

  • @Europa4033

According to OP, you can only use the emotes "while standing still". I don't think any pvper would ever give up agility like that
So, why would the developers spend time, money, and resources developing this for such a small amount of damage with the added bonus of removing a player's agility?

Because this game is all about creating stories and moments, and it's a lot cooler to shoot someone with finesse vs the default shooting animation; and adding a bullet here and there to certain emotes isn't exactly state of the art technology.

Of course it wouldn't be used in actual combat, but it would make for fun moments when players meet each other.

Creating stories and moments? Custom servers are coming. Cooler to shoot someone with finesse? Not sure about that lol. If my goal is to sink your ship, all I care about is killing the player and achieving that goal. If you take away my mobility, you make it more difficult for me to that. "Fun moments when players meet each other"?? Same as using a blunder bomb on them I suppose, only a simple blunderbomb doesn't cost developer time, money, resources, and an insane amount of balancing.

Custom servers would be for scripted moments. Scripted moments aren't what makes the game special.

When I say stories and moments I mean the moments that have gotten the game where it is today, in the sandbox. Stories and moments that happen naturally when 2 crews meet each other.

"Fun moments when players meet each other"??

Is that a foreign concept to you?

It is since I normally sink them 😂

Yeah, gold/rep/loot is meaningless to me at this point. I'll fight adventure swabbies if the moment calls for it, but I would 100% prefer interesting interactions over a boring 30 second fight.

Sadly, that's not up to me. It's up to the other players approaching me. That's not to say I haven't met amazing players, because indeed I have. I'll have an amazing 20-min fight or so with another ship, and if they sink, we let them board and compliment/thank/friend them for an amazing fight. Usually with me however, it's players biting off more than they can chew, seeing my sloop and assuming I'm the weaker player because I have a small ship.

It'd be rad to have the game give you certain emotes to accomplish certain things, like rituals for summoning skele-buddies, unlocking vaults, Order of Souls voodoo spooky stuff, etc.

Many veterans have a number of pages they'd have to go thru to find one thing they'd need, and I'm not about to do that. You can have my character do whatever if I push F to start a ritual however.

If you're invested in the game enough to have MULTIPLE PAGES OF EMOTES then you probably aren't the type to be too upset by dedicating one of TEN PAGES to some cool voyage interactions. Besides, like all stuff, it could just be Order of Souls related and not something every Trading Company needs to engage with.

When did OP say one? You're adding things after the fact, and even then, it's pointless if you just stand there, emoting something that's not only pay to win but not enough damage and zero mobility.

  • @acnologia1403 One emote does not make it ok, also they added disguises so now that emote is meaningless and everyone gets it for free basically. As well, it's pay to win in another way. If you can't afford to buy the emote from whatever store its in, if its time limited, anything like that, some players will have abilities and some will not.
