Remove floating kegs

  • Random kegs are one of the most stupid parts of this game. You get knocked off your boat or killed IMMEDIATELY and are given no chance to recover. You are FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED FORCED TO SINK. YOU DO NOT GET A CHOICE. This is one of the worst POSSIBLE decisions is all of game design. Punishing the player for something entirely out of their control and FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING FORCING them to sink is not condusive to players wanting to keep playing

  • Typing the word Forced 30+ times doesn't make your statement true.
I never sank to these floating kegs nor did i ever die to them and even if i did, you can easily respawn and save you ship if it happens.
You can even survive a megakeg on a sloop if everyone dies.

I don't really see a reason to remove the kegs from flotsams, sure they might be annoying sometimes, but they also make funny interactions.

Just keep an eye out for the seagulls and / or other signs there are random barrels & loot with or without kegs.

  • @lem0n-curry Imagine not understanding the concept of not always being able to see and control everything. In the rain, or the fog, or in an hourglass match, you are not and very much can not often look everywhere. Sometimes they spawn with 2 or 3 kegs, making the spread near impossible to dodge even if you have clear view during any time your heavily involved in something (like attacking/being attacked/hourglass).

  • @dermasterbob No you cannot respawn and save your ship when it hits a patch of 3 kegs at once and the triangle position of them makes them hit every side of your ship at the same time and then the game decides for some reason that you don't get to respawn and it holds you on an extra long black screen, respawning you the second your ship is sunk, even though if you had been there 1 second sooner it would have at least been possible to try to save the ship.

  • One of my favourite moments relied on kegs being in flotsam. We got a CoF, heading for the turn in and we were being chased. I spotted a keg in the water and was able to back board with it. It was super effective as you can imagine. I would be shame to lose oppurtunities like that.

I don't have to imagine it - it happened to me. Now imagine using them to your advantage - kegging a pursuing ship with them or trying to lure them into the flotsam.

3 of them in one pile is very very rare though. 2 of them are as easy to dodge as 1 - if you keep a look-out, though hitting them in combination with other things going on (PvE or PvP) might sink you. Not a reason to remove them though, might as well remove the skellies shooting cannons from islands.

  • The only issue that I have is that, since they added the new seagulls, the different distinct audio for the old ones is bugged sometimes and doesn't play. So you don't always get the audio cue for the seagulls flying above them, which is particularly useful when you're solo and doing other things on your boat.

Other than that, I don't have an issue with the kegs. If I see them too late, I make sure I'm at the back of my boat, so I don't die to an explosion. Then it's just an annoyance having to repair.

Bro, at this rate you're gonna ask them to remove the ocean because you fell in it 🤣🤣🤣 Every day it’s “unfair this, unfair that” — maybe the game just isn’t for you?

That situation you just typed out is not very likely to happen.
Honestly im not even sure if three kegs can spawn in the same flotsam.

That doesn't matter though, because you just mentioned the long blackscreen as the main sinking reason, which can always happen.

Imagine you fell of your boat and rammed an island.
You took the mermaid, but it put you into an infinite blackscreen and you sank.
Does that mean ramming damage should be removed?

  • @potatosord
Floating kegs are great, they mean you have to keep an eye out when sailing, you can harpoon one on board and then use it to keg a boat chasing you or one you have spotted doing a world event etc. I have also had other crews I am chasing hit one so I can catch up.

Never sunk to running into them, even if the entire crew was killed. Next time bail first then repair.

What you are asking for is less variation on the seas. That means a more boring game.

  • @dermasterbob The odds of it happening are 100% because it happened to me literally today.

  • @uluckyhitreg Yeah dude that's what my arguments are. Most of the people who showed up to this comment section are the regular troll crew.

  • How many kegs are you hitting. In a sea of water, surrounded by barrels (sometimes glowing lights, loot) and big circling birds.

Mind you. This just proves we don’t need “Things to do” on our ships when the main thing should always be, watching ahead.

I remember hitting my first keg. Was at the helm, decided to cut through them to skip time. Explosion. Caused me to be knocked off the wheel, fire, took 2/4 health and still had time to drop anchor and make repairs. Saving ship. (Sure if I died the outcome maybe different)

    Thats not how odds work.
At least its not happening to me every single time i sail through flotsam and the same most likely goes for you.

  • Watch where you’re sailing silly! There’s birds in the air for a reason, avoid them.

  • This happened to you once and now you want them to adjust the game instead of you adjusting how you sail.

Kegs in the water are both threat and resource. I like them that way and I think most people do. They've been there ever since they added kegs eons ago and 99.9% of us are fine with it.

Ah yes, the classic “everyone's a troll” who doesn’t think like me defense 😅 Must be exhausting being the only sane voice in the entire player base.
1272 in-game hours and still can’t spot a keg in the water and steer away from it? C’mon now.

@potatosord said in Remove floating kegs:

That’s some solid math right there — 100% odds because it happened once 🤣 Might wanna publish that breakthrough.

  • On second thought I vote to add mega kegs to the rotation for extra spiciness!

  • @potatosord I died and sunk to a cannonball!!!!! Remove the cannonballs!!!!!!!! Yeah... just because you died to a keg in the water and sunk or whatever, doesn't mean they have to be removed from the water. Look for the birds in the sky

  • @kianonboard Fog, rain, fighting. Look for the thoughts in your head?

  • @tesiccl said in Remove floating kegs:

    Been suggesting this.

    @PotatoSord
I have never noticed or hit a keg in fog or storms. Have been sunk by floaters tho. I didn't get blackscreened. I was playing on a Xbox One 😅

The problem is you got blackscreened, not the kegs.

  • @th3-tater It wasn't the blackscreen you get when the game breaks, its the black screen you get when the game decides to hold you back from respawning until your ship is fully sunk even though you could have saved it.

  • It's a very rare scenario that the damage is enough to sink you.
Generally easily recoverable even after death. Perhaps getting knocked off and bad merm could be fatal or a black screen.

Adds some RNG to combat if you are getting chased and manage to pick one up via harpoon.

    Keep 'em.

  • @potatosord Look for the birds in the sky?

  • Nah, disagree, I think it's hilarious. If a player/crew isn't paying attention to their surroundings (one of the key aspects of this game), and they sail over a keg/flotsam with a keg in it, that's entirely on them.
