Remove bone callers from hourglass

  • Hourglass is supposed to be a fair 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4. It’s not fun when all they have to do is throw a ball and they get three extra crew members that make it impossible to move around the ship without getting spammed by swords. Same with third parties. I know it’s an open world and all, but hourglass should be a fair game mode where winning relies purely on skill and not who has a bone caller or not.

I’m not against the idea of a “fair game mode”, even though I prefer it as is, but I don’t see any indication that, other than crew size, hg is intended for equal footing fights. This goes far beyond just bone callers; supplies of all kind to include curse balls, pineapples, chain shots, and even kegs if you find some are never equally distributed. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t be frustrated by bone callers, but it seems pretty clear that absolute fairness was never on the menu.

Show me where it says this.

You have tools to remove those One Hit destroyable skeletons....they are a distractions at best.

Oh so you now say "Should be" instead of it Always be a fair fight. :P
HourGlass isn't a Mode. Mode would say it has it own rules and mechanics. It doesnt. You pvp, in an open world. Sometimes you Pvp with someone who been doing voyages and collecting stuff. Maybe they setup a Trap with Cannons of Rage and kegs? Is that fair or clever outplay?

  • @dominator9787 I don't disagree with the sentiment of having a more manicured PvP mode, but because they inherently want the HG arena's to be on the adventure servers then they probably won't develop any systems that alter or restrict supplies. It would also get weird for people defending, because they could be stacked with supplies, get invaded, and then lose a large portion of their supplies because the game needed to equalize the supplies held across both crews.

Hey, I see you say this a lot but I disagree. Even if it doesn't fit the standard structural approach other games take to game modes (like having separate playlists for Slayer, CTF, Oddball, etc in Halo) it does indeed have its own rules and mechanics.

    • When diving or defending, you are in a queue and matchmade with another crew.
    • When you dive for HG or are invaded in HG, you are forced into an arena that imposes unique rules and mechanics upon the 2 crews within that arena.
    • The two ships within that arena are beholden to a win condition, which is that one ship must sink to proceed.
    • One cannot leave the bounds of the arena to exit the engagement without being held to this win condition, which is sinking.
    • When a ship does sink, it is removed from the server the match took place on.

Just because this mode is housed within a larger server doesn't detract from the fact that it is, for all intents and purposes, a game mode.

  • @burnbacon bro can you stop stalking me and responding to my posts. Nobody wants to hear you blabber on about the random stuff you talk about. I’ve read your responses to other people’s posts and they are 99% of the time not true or go against another thing you posted. I don’t think you even play sea of thieves.

  • @capt-greldik I can understand supply and resource difference between the crews, but having the ability to spawn people on the enemy ship is just too far. It’s more than a distraction as @BurnBacon says, they spam you with the sword while you are trying to bucket and they get in the way when you try to run down the stairs. Crew size is something that should stay perfectly even in an hourglass match. That is why I am so against bone callers and third parties.

  • Hourglass is by design a game mode about building momentum, and was never and has never been about the 1v1. In the S8 SoT TV live stream they detailed how the game mode was designed from the ground up to be PVP on demand in the adventure world, and 3rd partying was always expected and accepted. From Day 1. Bone callers are just another tool, and a pretty useful one at that. As well, how do you do it? Just delete all bone callers from the player inventory when they dive to HG? What if they don't get a match? What if they get invaded before they dive? If it's gonna remove bone callers, does it also have to remove reapers chests if you invade someone who has one open on their deck?

  • @burnbacon they aren’t always onehit, they are about 65 hp (regular pve skeletons are about 40 hp) which means that a pistol shot or sword lunge doesn’t kill then, worst part is they will retreat and heal all the damage you gave them if you don’t oneshot them

If you’re a solo and you’re against someone with multiple bonecallers there’s really nothing you can do, and getting multiple bonecallers is not rare

  • Meh. People take HG way too seriously. Use whatever. If it speeds up a drawn out fight, win or lose, I'm all for it.
