Update mess with Seagulls?

Did the newest update mess with the seagulls spawning overhead above treasure or sunken ships? I used to be able to see them from quite a distance and ever since the newest update I can't see them until I am right on top of said floating treasure or sunken ships. Is there a setting I can mess with to fix this or does anyone know if something got screwed with in the update?
