Open Crew Requirement Filters

  • My idea for this is to add a button next to open Crew that lets you search through specific groups, something like this

    Pirate Legends (Yes/No)
Over 1000+ hours of playtime (Yes/No)
Skeleton Curse or Ghost Curse owners (Yes/No)
    World Events/Voyages (Yes/No)

I don't know how they'd program this in, but I'm tired of being stuck with newbies. Don't get me wrong, it can be funny. But I'm also trying to things done in sea of thieves, and I don't want these Swabbies to just sit around and relax. I'm looking for more you know, competent people. No offense towards newbies, I just would rather actually be doing something instead of sailing around like Swabbies do.

    I feel ya there.

I despise being stuck with swabbies. I know they are just learning the ropes and we all started out like that too, but nothings gonna get done.

  • Skeleton Curse or Ghost Curse owners (Yes/No)
    World Events/Voyages (Yes/No)

What if I said No and hour later…change my mind.

  • @burnbacon It's just a way to get started, You can just leave later and go into open crew regularly or with a different requirement of course, your not forged to stay in a session which is the best part about the idea imo.

  • I understand the core concept of what you're proposing, and I do like that, but the examples you've given seem a bit extreme. (Excluding the world events)

    • A filter for the type of activity (PvP, World Events, Voyages, "X" Emisarry) is definitely a good idea. Helps like-minded players get together.
    • As for narrowing down the type of player and what they have, I don't think that's something Rare and it's system should enforce, they give players an LFG system (think Xbox LFG post, that largely do what you're requesting) and the captain could maybe inspect player request to join and basic stats like reps and time played.

Until these ideas come to fruition (if ever), I recommend using the official discord for finding crewmates. You can spell out your criteria in one of the LFG channels and even feel out the person in voice prior to getting started.

  • I think making it harder for new players to find a crew to sail with would put them off playing, and harm the overall health of the game.

  • @eligibleeel6171 I mean like, just let them do whatever they want in open crew but for the more experienced players to have a sorta looking for group feature where you can search for specific criterias that players must have so you don't end up with new players.

  • @thunderdrago205
Something like that in crew options could be good. While I do enjoy teaching noobs, its an investment in future PvP but sometimes I do feel the need to find new players of similar skill level. However, i would submit that the various discord groups, Blurbs, Hipo, fuzzy etc are the way to find experienced pirates to sail with. For that reason my guess is open crew will continue to be a lottery.

What would be nice, if alt accounts and cheaters with new accounts did not exist, is for new players to be preferentialy paired to the same servers until they hit a certain number of hours. But sadly that will not work.

  • The sad thing is that these filters wouldn't help much because open crew trolls often are long time players who have PL and stuff like that.

  • @thunderdrago205 Yeah that's the discord.

  • @potatosord There should be a in game feature though, is what I mean.

  • World of Warcraft has a feature similar to this. If you want to form your own raid, you post it, and when people click their interest to join, you can see what item-level they are, and can pick/choose who you want to have join.

  • @europa4033 Yeah the idea would be like that, I don't know what specific criterias it would be, but just like a system for better matchmaking for open crew.

  • @ThunderDrago205 If it's a separate looking for group feature then that's something I can get on board with. I just think open crew needs to be kept completely open.

I think for people that want to be more selective, there should be a separate Sea of Thieves matchmaking service. Instead of having a single text box and having to read through all of them on forums/ discord to find what you're looking for (and it still being a dice roll because people generally only write a short sentence), you have a profile you can fill out with discrete checkboxes and dropdowns (age, hours played, hourglass level, preferred activities, communication preferences, headset?, mic?, languages spoken? etc. etc.) and maybe a bit about yourself. Then you fill out another form to say the kind of person you're looking to play with and an algorithm matches people up. Could do a similar thing for groups and guilds.

  • I don't think any resources should be spent on open crew at this point in the game. They should have done that in the beginning not make it a free for all where you either get trolls or brand new people that don't know what open crew is like lol

You have discord, reddit, xbox lfg, whatever playstation uses, etc. already.
