Remove the Invasion feature from hourglass

  • Seriously, they force people to fight even the ones who accidentally vote on the hourglass and didn't know it, and the new players who also voted for it. I feel like 2 people should have to dive into each other instead of one invading the other. I got invaded 2 times when I accidentally voted on the hourglass, and who cares about the alligence I get from losing, I shouldn't be forced to fight if I accidentally voted on it. And this isn't a skill issue because I wasn't even trying to fight in the first place, the hourglass system just forced unwilling people to fight. Like I mentioned, new players and accidental votes

  • If both people had to dive, then they would have to dive to a server with 2 free slots.
When only one dives, it's easier to put them with the defender.

Just be careful where you click. Why should an entire mechanic be removed just for you?

  • @thunderdrago205 it's not something that happens often but is frustrating. Some advice to better understand the mechanic. If you open the war map and vote to dive, you can't be invaded. You also need to be in open seas to dive. So you can park at an outpost or island while voted to wait the...I think 15 minute timer before you can lower (it should tell you at outpost hourglass how long you need to wait)

  • I got invaded 2 times when I accidentally voted on the hourglass

Must of won both times or lost once. Because once you sink...its turned off.

I shouldn't be forced to fight if I accidentally voted on it.

You dont have to fight, just run or get sunk for your 1% mistake.

the hourglass system just forced unwilling people to fight.

You said it was an accident you turned it on, not its a forced system where you "unwilling" have to fight??

frankly, I tried to accidently activate Hourglass. Just to see how people do it, You can't clearly do it...accidently.

  • @burnbacon You can do it accidentally when voting for a quest, the button on xbox is X and the button to vote for hourglass is X.

  • @guildar9194 That's what suggestions is for. It doesn't have to be removed, just something to prevent accidental votes for hourglass.

  • If we're gonna fix that which accidentally gets voted on, should be revenge of the Morningstar at the daggertooth shipwright. I bet I've accidentally voted on that voyage a gazillion times. 😁

No. If anything make invasions occur more often.

  • @miserenz Let me tell you, Rare isn't gonna do that. I just have a feeling. But, whatever you wanna say.

  • Why not just have an option in settings for hourglass which can be set to "on", "off", or "confirm". Set it to "on" and everything works the same. Set it to "confirm" and when you activate your hourglass, you're given a warning pop up explaining how hourglass works and that you won't be able to deactivate it for 15 minutes or until after a fight and asking you to confirm this is definitely what you want. Set it to "off" and it removes the hitbox entirely.

That way we don't need to remove an aspect of the game that some people enjoy. Anyone that doesn't want to be affected by the change, doesn't have to be.

  • @thunderdrago205

Rare is far less likely to remove the invasion side of things. So you accidently hit HG once, just be a little more careful when it comes to voting next time. How often do you or others do this? It is not reasonable to expect the rest of the player base to lose a feature because you made a mistake.

Even if this was a real problem, at most being able to cancel HG within 60 seconds of voting for it would be a reasonable solution rather than getting rid of invasions all together.

What I would like to see is HG ships after diving and wining being able to stay on that server and have the losing ships slot kept open. Then invasions would be able to occur more regularly.

  • Don’t be so impatient voting down a voyage at your table if you don’t wanna vote on hourglass instead xD

  • @miserenz Yeah, they need a way for you to leave the fight without getting win gold and alligence. It gets annoying having to wait 15 minutes at a outpost.

  • @tesiccl If you cancel a voyage, it makes you hold x. Which means you can then accidentally vote for hourglass if you don't have your camera aimed correctly, I think rare should make a way to opt out of hourglass via your table without getting any rewards.

  • I think a better solution would be to move the hourglass somewhere else. I can’t imagine a lot of people are accidentally voting for it, but if they are, then it would make more sense to move the hourglass rather than scrap defending completely.

  • Hourglass battle voting should really be kept away from mission voting.
Sometimes no one on the ship wants to participate in the battle, but due to the close interaction between the two votes, they may vote incorrectly.
Think about it, moving the hourglass battle to another location or requiring multiple keystrokes to vote.
For example, setting the hourglass to a color without any light. Then you need to vote to activate the hourglass first. Then it's time to vote for the faction you are loyal to. Finally, diving for the hourglass battle.
Will a small change affect those who want to participate in PVP? It won't affect them.
It is actually very helpful for those who do not want to participate in PVP.
Many people in the forum refute you because they don't care about your experience.
They hope that you newbies who don't know PVP can frequently click on hourglass battles, so that they may match you. They can win.

  • If you ever accidentally raise HG, just go to an island and vote on the war map. You cannot be invaded as long as you are near an island. That said, basically as soon as you vote off the war map you are likely to be invaded. If you go to an outpost first then vote on the war map, wait 15 minutes, you can lower without being invaded, as long as no one else near you raises.

  • @thunderdrago205 Don't vote hourglass unless you want to play hourglass. If you are accidentally activating the HG enough that you are repeatedly put into fights you don't want, figure out how to use a controller.

  • @potatosord Cancel a voyage while next to the hourglass on Xbox and see how easy it is to accidentally vote for hourglass.

  • @thunderdrago205 Look before you leap.

  • Anyone who voted on hourglass on accident either is not paying attention to what they are doing, or they turned on the single worst accessibility feature added to a game that people recommend endlessly even though i only hear this problem coming from it. I feel bad for people who have to use that feature just because it was done so horribly.

So really the only time people voting hg up on accident is on the game is those who actually need to use press to hold, beyond that, even the new players who just randomly vote it up arnt exactly some victim of poor design, they are more often than not just choosing to not read the giant pop up that is warning them they are going to get in a fight.

Personally i dont take issues that are on the players end and think that it needs fixed, and a whole hourglass play style should not be removed just because players cant take the time to look at what they are selecting. I dont think they are bad players for it, everyone makes mistakes, but this really is not on rare beyond bad push to hold accessibility, thats the only fix needed here, and beyond that, its on us to look at what we are doing imo.

  • @thunderdrago205

Cancel a voyage while next to the hourglass on Xbox and see how easy it is to accidentally vote for hourglass.

So I did what you requested. And, I cant seem to figure out how one still accidently votes HG while standing there. Example to me, How or what reason says you stand to the Left of the table, against side of the Ship (On a Sloop). Most/All stand in front and look down at the table center.

  • @burnbacon Yes, but it's not only accidental votes but people who simply do not want to play hourglass. Say, if you vote for hourglass earlier in a open crew but change your mind later and don't want to play hourglass and your crew mates leave, you automatically are forced into hourglass with no choice but to wait 15 minutes in which someone will probably invade you.

  • Yes, there should be an Are you sure button like when you're buying supplies from the shipWright
