Can't play on PC without buying game pass

  • Im trying to avoid buying the game twice but it sounds like I'm going to have to. I went to restore my previous purchase because I preordered SOT when it first came out, but SOT came out in Mar 2018 and the past purchases only go to 7 years ago which now only goes as far as June 2018. I want to keep my progress without having to buy Game pass because the thought of having the pay a monthly subscription to access a game I bought boils my blood lol I'd gladly pay for xbox live again but I'm over Game pass lol especially game pass for PC costs the most. So will I just have to buy a new version on Steam to avoid using the Microsoft store? Will i still be able to access my character and progress WITHOUT ever having to purchase game pass? I dont want to go through purchasing through steam only to get forced to buy game pass again.

  • You can keep character from Xbox on steam. I switched from xbox to steam myself about 3 years ago. Just log in with your Microsoft account and all your progress will still be there
    Edit
Oh and you don't need game pass either once you've moved to steam

Before Steam I played SoT via the MS store - no need for a paid subscription on PC at all.

  • Try this...

    • Boot up the Xbox App (if you haven't got it installed, you will need to download it from the MS Store)
    • Sign into the Xbox App with the same account you originally bought the game on.
    • Go to My Library and you should see Sea of Thieves as an owned game.
    • Click on the game and Install.

If you're 100% sure you have the correct account and you do not see the game or it's still showing that you need game pass, contact Microsoft Support as they're the ones in charge of purchases, not Rare.
