CyanBeard Error still after 7 years? Fix that actually worked for me.

  • I spent the last week randomly getting CyanBeard after the new patch, and from things a read online a LOT of people have been getting the same. I tried many many things that "should work" but don't do anything. Sometimes restarting your pc helps but only until SOT decides it wants to give you an error again. I even tried adding an exception in my firewall for SOT.

The thing I found that FINALLY fixed it for me, was after adding it to exceptions in my personal AV, which did nothing, I then opened up Windows Defender Firewall

Click on Add New Rule for INBOUND Rules.

Choose to add a rule for a specific application.

Browse to the game's executable file and select it.

    Select (Allow/Deny) and network type.

    Click Save.

  • Cyanbeard means that something on your end is blocking something that is required for the Sea of Thieves-servers to work (not the games fault.) Could be your router, strict firewall settings or your internet provider. Most likely something in the router if you haven't setup specific things in your firewall to block certain things.

  • @itz-majman i LITERALLY explained what the issue was, AND the fix, and you're still trying to tell me how it could be an error on my end? Read the post before commenting.

  • it was an error on your end, though? :D You (and apparently others) needed to allow access to those ports where Defender is blocking. Anyway, good information.

  • Yo thanks, This worked for me.. so far.. I only just made it into a server, but it at least got me in, we'll see if it continues! Thanks again

  • @area-61 NVM, it happened again the next day and it's always as i'm tapping an Athena...
