Website Poll Capability

  • Add the ability for forum users to add a Poll to their posts. This could be useful in a number of simple questions and polls but most importantly the Developers could use these polls to learn what the community thinks about various things within the game.

An example would be a locked topic post where the only thing the community can do is vote out of a few options.

    Sample..

How many hours do you have in Sea of Thieves?
    A. 0-50
    B. 50-100
    C. 100-500
    D. 500+

This simple poll would give you an idea of the forum users experience level right off the bat. This could also be used to tackle more hot topic issues.

Should Safer Seas have it's restrictions removed and simply be Sea of Thieves PVE
    A. YES
    B. NO
    C. BRING BACK ARENA

This could be rather useful for getting a generalized consensus from the playerbase who takes the time to come to outside sources about the game.

  • On the surface, it sounds like a neat way to get raw data. However, it would be incredibly skewed statistics. It won't take into consideration the amount of players who A: didn't read the post, B: didn't care to participate, C: don't know there's even a poll. All you'd get is heavily skewed data that doesn't reflect the majority of the community. If you want better polling data, add a question to the launch screen, just one question.

Even still, just because we all want the spawn rate of the shrouded ghost increased, doesn't mean it's going to happen. Don't forget, this is their game, their vision, their story to tell, and we're just along for the ride, much like watching a movie. They've made decisions based on the metadata they have that we don't know. They also make decisions based on the risk/reward factor of the game/engagement.

  • C! Arena is gone and not coming back!

Anywhoooooo.... I'd love to see polls (though not able to be started by anyone) [shudders from Mod PoV] but as mentioned above, they are only representative of those that vote. Sounds good on paper but if X community starts a poll....then 'asks' their members to vote their way, is it really worth having a poll in the first place?

EDIT: As for technical viability, I'd have to check.

  • The only actually legit place for voting should be within the game itself, and on a one-time login basis.

Everything outside of that is subject to bias, tampering, etc. Even that can be influenced through media, by warning followers/subs about it before they login (fake/alt accounts etc)

And I hardly believe devs would go any length for implementing this in the game anyways, even outside of it. Why would they? They have access to all the stats they need to figure out demographics (with their analytics team) + they have insiders and QC team.

Statistics are telling them more than any poll made.

    @Zherron-Vorse

I'm not gonna jump into any conclusions (whether you're PvE or PvP/PvEvP player), but I'm only gonna say that - they made recent changes to the SS purely based on statistics. They could've also unlocked stuff, but they didn't, for a good reason.

No matter how many votes are gathered for this, or against this, it won't influence anything they anyways don't want to do (that's against their vision).
