MAKE SoT GREATE AGAIN!

  • Greetings!

I’ve been playing Sea of Thieves for a few years now, and I’ve had countless memorable moments in this beautiful world. I will never forget the feeling of pure fear and adrenaline I felt as a new pirate when spotting a ship on the horizon — not knowing if I’d live or sink. Over time, that fear turned into power, and I eventually became the one to fear across the seas.

I’ve completed all the PvP and PvE content the game has to offer and had countless open-world adventures full of random encounters, ambushes, betrayals, and true pirate experiences.

However, after 650 hours of gameplay, and with some recent changes that (in my opinion) hurt the game — such as Safe Seas — I find the world of Sea of Thieves feeling more… empty. I know this might sound harsh, but sailing in nearly deserted servers, where the few crews you encounter just run away endlessly and loot feels almost pointless, leads to what I’d describe as low-quality playtime.

Despite that, I still love Sea of Thieves. I deeply believe in the core of the game and its potential to become something even greater. What I feel is missing is a stronger sense of purpose — a reason for players to care about their actions and reputation in the world. That’s what keeps a sandbox alive.

Here’s an idea I’ve been thinking about:

What if the game had a Fame System?

Players could earn permanent fame by completing impactful actions like:

    Defeating rare sea monsters

Winning PvP encounters and turning in enemy flags

Completing difficult world events or bosses

    Fame would persist across sessions.

As you gain fame, your pirate becomes “known” in the world. Your name and ship could appear on wanted posters in every outpost.

Other players would then get gold, reputation, and fame if they defeat a well-known pirate and turn in their flag.

Fame could decrease if you’re defeated, creating a dynamic system of rising and falling legends.

This would give real weight to open-world encounters and reward risk-takers. It would also help break the cycle where new players avoid all PvP out of fear, only to later find the seas feel lifeless when they finally feel ready to fight.

Sea of Thieves is an amazing game. Its biggest weakness, in my opinion, is the downtime and the feeling that your actions don’t truly leave a mark. With the right additions — like a Fame System or other persistent progression tied to open-world action — this game could become even more legendary.

Thank you for your time and for creating a world we pirates have called home for years. I truly believe Sea of Thieves can reach the moon — and beyond!

  • So basically a bounty system that people are forced to participate in.
    Nah.

  • I’ve completed all the PvP and PvE content the game has to offer

Game that is updated and changed. No you haven’t

  • You completed the game after 650 hours without any cheats?
SoT Completionism want to know you...
Also Safer Seas doesn't ruin anything at all. I don't care yet alone Encourage complete new players to play in that instead of taking a server slot in high seas.

  • I honestly think players would much rather work towards their hourglass curse since that grind also has gold, rep and "fame".

  • There is functionally zero difference in this idea from the silly "bounty" system posts that pop up once every other week or so on here. Like everyone always says in replies to those ideas, we already have an opt-in 'come and fight me' system available with the ability to raise emissary flags and any attemps to make it compulsory where people can't avoid participation if they don't want to goes against the core concept of the game as a whole and the developers' stated intentions. Either way, it's not really feasible.

Also, there is literally zero chance you've completed all PvE and PvP content this game has to offer at 650 hours of playtime unless you're saying you've done each voyage and activity exactly once and then moved on to the next one. That's barely 27 days. I've got nearly four times that amount spent in-game over the last four years and there are dozens and dozens of things I haven't yet completed or unlocked.

Finally, Safer Seas and the players who use it have no affect on you or anyone else at all and thus cannot contribute to the game no longer being "great" in any way, shape or form.

  • Hourglass is already a system where you can fight for glory until you get to a point where your icon is on everyones map, and since it's opt in it's actually better for the overall playerbase.
Also at 650 hours... No you haven't "done all the game has to offer". You have 151 out of 292 achievements. Based on your achievements you haven't played this game since December of last year, and you didn't play basically at all between July of last year until halloween. Your profile says "Last seen 99 days ago: Sea of Thieves" and based on your achievements, I would believe it. You haven't played this game since the first week of season 15 if that's accurate. You don't have the skeleton curse. You've never done a reapers voyage, you haven't even seen an OoBaB skeleton yet. You haven't even done the blowpipe commendations, or disguise ones. You don't have Briggsy's mask unlocked.
The argument about safer seas ruining the game is insane. Truly and honestly. How can the people who likely would just be easy sink swabbies being in public lobbies make the game better?
