Necessary Bug Fixes for Controller Players

  • This post is purely to address issues and game bugs that only controller players must learn to live with, AND SHOULDN'T HAVE TO!! If you play controller and would like equal ground in the small things on Sea of Thieves, vote this post up!

    -Switch weapons and secondary interact cannot be different inputs
    This causes major issues with opening crates when attempting to swap weapons. Fights with crates on deck literally force us to open crates, then delay/cancel our input to move (crate close animation) or swap weapons after closing the crate. For the record, players have asked for this since launch. If you search the forums for this topic, you'll see 50+ PAGES of posts about this

    -Weapons cannot be swapped near the map table
    If you can see the interact prompt from the map table (with sitting prompts disabled) you CANNOT swap weapons. It's almost like there's supposed to be a secondary interact option that the game is waiting for the input to activate, but clearly there isn't one so it's just blocking the swap weapon action

    -Pressing the interact button while sprinting cancels sprint
    This is for both sprinting on solid ground, and in water. The biggest issue with this is boarding ladders. M&K players can just mash the interact option, and keep sprint-swimming, and wait for the prompt to grab the ladder to appear and they can't miss it. Controller players must time it perfectly in order to continue moving quickly and make the ladder. For those instances where you are right at the edge of ladder-grab distance, this ruins it. This only became an issue within the last year or two by the way, something changed that affected this mechanic

    Please add additional issues to this thread that should be addressed, primarily issues that should give controller players equal ground if we choose to play controller against M&K players in areas that should not be crippling us further. This post is NOT for complaining about M&K players, or suggesting that they be crippled in any way

    I’m a console player. And I like to use the tactic of having 30 chests, crates on a ship and watch a player struggle to fight me with there double gun while I use a sword. XD
    Don’t be nerfing a perfect strat

    Who in there right mind fights down there? Just blunderbomb them to death.

    Controller players must time it perfectly in order to continue moving quickly and make the ladder

    Idk what you’re doing but I swim and grab the ladder no issue by bashing the X button. Never missed yet. (Plus as a controller only lobby)

    Yep. Probably a lot written by me.

    At this stage, I'm just very disappointed at how long it has taken them to address the secondary prompt problem. We know they have to be aware of the issue, and we know plenty of Rare devs play with controller because they do so on streams.

    While I will thank them if and when they do finally fix it, I won't be happy that it will have taken over a half a decade to do so.

  • @burnbacon Don't reply if you aren't going to be helpful, I can see that you only live on the forums and I can't imagine that you haven't been told that before. I'm trying to solve problems here, and you are not helping.

    Some of us play exclusively against PC players, and it creates a disadvantage that isn't necessary and can be fixed. Your opinion isn't relevant, only the facts.

    Ever heard of a Sloop? It's a legitimate game bug, again, your opinion changes nothing.

    Does it, or does it not cancel your sprint/sprint-swim? Just because you "never miss" doesn't mean there isn't an issue.

  • @burnbacon You figuring out how to use the buggy behaviour to your advantage isn't a legitimate answer to the question. You don't get to control where you fight. If someone boards while you're bilging, you are fighting in the lower and mid deck whether you like it or not. Forcing players to have to choose between more possible interactions or having a level playing field again, is not a valid answer to the question. By all accounts, you are so close to just saying "play safer seas" to them.

  • I use XBOX console to play games, and I don't quite agree with your viewpoint.
    If you are playing games in console only mode.
    If you have this problem, then the other party also has this problem.
    This is still fair.
    If you are playing cross platform games. Playing FPS with a mouse has a significant advantage over a controller.
    And the keyboard has enough keys. The controller does not have so many buttons.
    PC players can quickly switch between various types of shells. However, users who use the controller need to press the keys multiple times.
    If you feel it's unfair, please don't play cross platform games.
